      Hey Mark L, it is always nice to get feedback. You can always buy a new cylinder head, but it is more fun trying to repair it. After repairing the crack, i have put a new exhaust valve seat and a new intake valve seat. The cylinder head is holding so far.

    Those tapered taps and tapered screws were actually manufactured by versnic. The only ones we ever used in my dads automotive machine shop were made of cast iron because all the cylinder heads and cylinder blocks were cast iron. My dad always suggested to the customer to use k&w metallic block sealer just as a back up on the break in period. Never had a come back in all the years he repaired blocks and heads. Good product made by versnic and I am sure of the correct spelling.

      Hallo Gary, Thank you for sharing this. Are the versnic taps still available ? The suggestion to use block sealer is very useful. Thanks and have a nice day. So Oldt.

    Hello Arty berkhoff. Thank you for this contribution. If the crack is not to big, maybe it can left alone, like suggested Arty. But in my cylinder head the crack entered the exhaust valve seat and the intake valve seat. So a crack repair was necessary with mounting valve seat inserts to repair the original cast iron valve seats. Have a nice day. SoOldt

    I couldn't tell which locktite you used, and would really love to know about your preferred ceramic sealant.
    I was thinking about using sodium silicate.
    Thanks,
    Mark

      Hey MarK R, thank you for watching the video. I use loctite (red) n° 271 with the tapered taps. This certainly helps when repairing a crack in a water cooled crack. To repair crack in cylinderhead i advice to use ceramic sealant like "ceramic motor seal" (CRS-16) from goodson. see : goodson.com/blogs/goodson-gazette/got-cracks-heres-how-to-repair-them. This is just a suggestion, i am not promoting this product.
      I like the suggestion of using Sodium Silicate, i will check this tip Mark. Have a nice day and please subscribe when possible. So Oldt

    Did that crack go into the coolant chamber? It looked like the hole was right through and I have the same crack in my head and it doesn’t seem to be pressurising the coolant yet but it’s worrying me. Nice repair

    • @sooldt6591
      @sooldt6591  2 года назад

      Hello Pill sharks, thank you for watching the video. The crack did not go through in me case. But i am sure that a good repair with the taps, and using ceramic liquid sealant will close the crack. Maybe it is nessesary to use 2 or more taps (see me other video "metalstitching cast iron block). I did install 2 new valve seats because the crack was also in the cast iron seals. I hope your repair holds. Have a nice day, and please subscribe to me channel. So Oldt

      Hey Pill Sharks , look at goodson.com/collections/crack-detection-repair. I ordered 1) cast iron crack plugs (smallest ones) 2) crack repair drill 3) crack repair tapered taps. you do not have to use a reamer if the wall thickness is less 1mm. I ordered this at a engine repair shop supplier. There are also tapered taps from lock-n-stich (USA), but they are difficult to buy in europe. I do not have any connections with the suggested suppliers. Have a nice repair. So Oldt.

      I bought the taps in a local goodson dealer.

    pretty interesting .... i was wondering after you get the hole developed why not just weld the hole closed with hot weld and then shape the surface .... i see the pakistani youtube videos are using only hot welding to fix cracked and broken crankcases and heads ....your method is probably better

    • @sooldt6591
      @sooldt6591  2 года назад

      Hey Claymore Cluepile. Thank you for watching the video and for give some feedback. My cilinderhead is cast iron and that is difficult to weld . you can weld an ALU cilinderhead like you suggested but an cast iron head you better use metal stitching taps. My engine is running fine with the metal stitched head an engine block. Thanks again and have a nice day.

    Das ist der lächerlichste Reparaturversuch, den ich je gesehen habe! Und auch noch amateurhaft gemacht. Warum freihändig und nicht wenigstens auf einer Ständerbohrmaschine, besser Fräsmaschine. Das Loctite wird nicht halten und die Risse sind ja immer noch in den Sitzen, wo das heisse Abgas durchbläst.
    In einem solchen Fall setzt man einen grossen Ventilsitzring und einen zweiten, den man in den ersten hineinschneidet.

      Herr Gôtz, danke für die Rückmeldung. Jeder kann hier etwas lernen. Ihre Berufserfahrung ist immer willkommen, aber bitte tun Sie dies auf respektvolle Weise. Wörter wie "lächerlichste" und "amateurhaft" sind das nicht. Das Loctite wurde hier nicht benötigt. Die Klemmung des konischen Gewindebohrers ist ausreichend. Hier müssen natürlich noch zwei Ventilsitze montiert werden. Einen schönen Tag noch. Ich möchte deinen RUclips Beitrag mit großer Aufmerksamkeit verfolgen.
      Die RUclips-Gesellschaft muss positiv sein, das verstehen Sie sicherlich.
