I have the tools, drill, and plug, but where did you get the block that you have? Did you purchase it or make it? If you made it, what is the distance between the holes? How big are the holes you drilled, like a drill bit size or bigger?
Hi Paul, thank you for the feedback. I know lock-n-stitch uses sometimes locks and taps. I contacted lock n stich USA and send a picture of the crack. They did not advise to use the locks. the wall thicknis of the engine block is 5-6 mm and that is to thin to use the locks. there are some makes (goodson) that only use taps to do the stitch . That is why i did not use the locks. I think metal stitching is better than welding so i tryed it . Have a nice day.
I have used these tapered screws to likewise repair a vortec cylinder head. Was amazed at how easy it was. A pressure test of the head with 80psi air pressure revealed no leaks. I am interested in the drilling jig you made. Could you perhaps show some details on that? Dimensions and other info about how it is constructed.
Hello, Geo Des. Thank you for the feedback. When you are a mechanic it is not so difficult to repair the cracked block with metal stitching. And it is a very good repair for cast iron. I got some inspiration from the USA lock-n-stich metal stitching youtube videos or pdf files to make the drilling jig. I drilled 5 3mm holes in a block. In the first hole i stuck a 3 mm drill bit. To make the jig. just measure the taps that you use. expl : 6 mm taps - 1 mm overlap. the center holes of the 3mm pre bore holes, must be 5 mm apart. I hope this is help full. Have a nice day So Oldt
Hello bashfullbuzzard . Thank you for wathing my video . To make the drilling jig. I drilled 5 x 3mm holes in a block. In the first hole i stuck a 3 mm drill bit. To repair the crack in the drain tap hole, i used a metal ring with some sealant and tighten it with the drain tap. It is perfectly closed. See my video " first start landrover series after metalstiching repair" . In this video you see how i did the repair. Have a nice day , and please subscribe to my channel .So Oldt,
Hello rnwagner, thank you for watching. This video was made without sponsoring products. I have used the tapered taps, drill and thread tap from goodson. maybe this link will help you : goodson.com/blogs/goodson-gazette/got-cracks-heres-how-to-repair-them
So Oldt
Hello Mister , thank you for the feedback. As the english say : "The proof of the pudding is in the tasting". My serie 2A engine is almost ready to run. It will be running soon (2 weeks). I will make a video of it, so we will find out it the repair is ok. But i am sure it is a good repair. It would be nice if you watch this video. Have a nice day. So Oldt
Hello Blaz monzina, thanks for watching my video. I use the goodson taps. You can find the taps on this website. goodson.com/collections/crack-detection-repair. I ordered them at a engine overhaull workshop who delivers goodson products. There are also taps from lock-n-stich but i can not order them in Europe. ( to expensive with taxes) . Hope that info helps. If you have the time, please subscribe to y channel So Oldt. Have a nice day.
Hello Gary, the mail reason for peening the repaired area is to reduce the tension in the cast iron. Due to installing the taps we have created new tension in the cast iron block. The tension can create new cracks so we have to spread the tension. the second reason is to close the repaired area. and the last reason is to camouflage the repaired area, so it looks like original cast iron pattern. Thanks for watching. So Oldt
Gracias por ver mi video. Elegí este método porque el grosor de la pared era de solo 6 mm y porque soldar hierro fundido puede causar grietas por tensión. Que tengas un buen día.
@koen soetaert Fantastic Job Koen, could you tell me, where i can get those rip off bolts ?
U did a good job...thanks for sharing this.
Hi Joseph. Thank you for your feedback. We all learn from doing things and trying to do it better the next time. Have a nice day. K.S.

Good video.. what is the point of peening afterwards?

There's not a lot of use for the special tool is there. Unless you care about the holes being perfectly spaced apart
you can do it without, but it helps to drill at same distance.
