I saw Tommy play this live in 1993 and people in the audience thought he was faking it to a studio recording. They didn’t know what a digital delay pedal was. The comments from people in the audience were so nasty.
Grant Teunissen I saw him play this in 1992 with a didgeridoo player.... it was already a monster. it was the centerpiece of his live set and it went for over 10 minutes. I think he had to keep it relatively short and sweet for this TV performance
@@coldacre - Thats really awesome to hear mate. I have seen this performance many of times over the 25 + years I have been following Tommy however what I will say is that the song grew and grew over this time. Check out the version he did for Centre Stage - in Tommy's own words - the best he has put on record.
Can you find anyone doing that? If not, that just came out of YOUR mind, not anyone else's. Stop inventing things to be outraged at and enjoy the music.
Love it!

Lol should have a disclaimer at the start,Tommy is amazing
People are idiots. I should know..
Isn’t it amazing what a monster of a song this became in 20+ years of development.

@@GrantTeunissen awesome. I have no doubt the song grew, permeated and evolved over time. that's the nature of an amazing musician like Tommy :)
Well, did he win ??
Yes he did! He won the best Adult contemporary album of the year.
Great album, but I still think “Dare to be Different” was better. Great driving music for outback NSW.
these days they would call it “cultural appropriation” and deem him racist! 🙄
