Robert Wise said that most of the Memory Wall scene was filmed. However on the Director's Edition DVD, it said only camera tests and a small portion of the scene were filmed. But then, there's also the numerous still photos of the scene. So, I wanna believe that Wise was correct. That most of it was actually filmed.
Seeing the V'Ger interiors and knowing that they were practical models that someone made from scratch.... It still amazes me to no end that they were able to pull this off with the technology of the time. I'm still fascinated by it. 🖖😃👍
Nice job on giving Spock’s space suit the correct square-style helmet for this scene. (The path of least resistance would have been to just use the round-style helmet used in the released version.)
I don't think Starfleet had any phasers big enough like his 44 magnum 😅😅...I know what you're thinking..did he fire only 5 blasts or only 6??? Seeing that this is a phaser I could vape you to kingdom come and that'd make my day.....ha ha ha😅😅 ( I made up the rest of it ok???)
I believe the best thing that happened was that this whole scene ended up on the cutting floor. It’s nice that now it’s a curiosity on RUclips. But the original movie then already felt soulless and tedious. This would scene would have made the movie even slower and feeling like it would never end. In any case, the concept of those things attacking and attaching to Kirk felt like a repeat of the sequence with the antibodies atracking Raquel Welch on “Fantastic Voyage.” Then having to endure the same dissonant incidental music, droning on and on, (even if may have been for position only)… nope.
looks intriguing...the first time I came across this partly filmed scene was a photo of Kirk wearing an EV suit covered in small silver pyramids. Perhaps having both Kirk and Spock in the same pivotal moment of the film might have undermined Spock's own personal story; in the scene we eventually got, he entered v'ger alone partly due to his own spiritual crisis, and gave a simplified running commentary both for Kirk and for us. That was clever. But this original scene could've been a better option for the film due to it being more tense. I think STTMP needed a little more action though that's never spoilt my enjoyment of this classic film.
From what I've seen and read, it seems that it just wasn't possible to pull that sequence off with the VFX technology of the time. CGI was the best option and it was at least a decade away from being advanced enough
It’s probably just as well that they changed this scene….🎬 as,it would’ve been too long for the picture to be finished.☑️ It’s an amazing 😻 set, though!I have pictures of these deleted scenes from this past Summer.(from the 1979 picture,of course!].😊
As has been said, it was already too long and frankly boring. Now to my 17 year old self it was amazing just having Trek back but even then I wondered if that journey around V'ger would ever end. I think it would have made it more like Trek to me if they had just stuck with the original uniforms rather than those silly pajamas. Whoever made that decision should be beamed into space.
Thoughts? Also the text has been reduced from warp 10 to at least warp 6. 🖖
This was by far the best of all the movies.

Blows my mind to see Clint Eastwood hanging out with Leonard on the set. Never took him for a Trekkie. 😃
@@fluffdegoss Clint was shoot in Escape From Alcatraz at Paramount
@@jameskroeper1759 Nice.

It would be great to see this reintegrated❤🖖🏻. Would have added a bit more depth to Allan Dean Foster’s screenplay

I'm glad Douglas Trumbull rescued the scene. I suspect this scene as originally conceived would have slowed the pace of the movie considerably.

AI reimagining of Star Trek The Motion Picture could reimagine the film from V'Ger's perspective.

Thanks!
So only 5 years had passed since the end of the tos right?????? Not 10 years real time righ???
Stop calling Text & Still photos "Restored" the scene has not been restored.
@@stevearts85 It's the closest to being restored since the majority of the footage is still likely in a vault somewhere.
