Hi everyone, I'm having difficulty understanding a row I have for a teddy bear pattern. I'm at the point where I'm working on the muzzle and it's a decrease stitch. The specific row says (k2tog, twice, knit 12, [skip] twice (16sts) however I cannot figure out the skip twice part at the end of the row. Can anyone help? Thanks!
I'd be happy to help you with your knitting questions! In the pattern you provided, the instruction "skip twice" likely means that you should skip two stitches. This instruction is used to create a small gap or eyelet in your work, which can be a decorative element or a part of the shaping for the teddy bear's muzzle.
Here's a step-by-step breakdown of that row:
k2tog, twice: This means you will knit two stitches together twice. To do this, insert your right-hand needle into the next two stitches as if you were going to knit them together, then knit them as one stitch. This is a decrease, and it will reduce your stitch count by two.
knit 12: After the decreases, simply knit the next 12 stitches.
[skip] twice (16sts): Here, you should skip the next two stitches in your work, effectively not knitting them. This will create a gap or hole in your knitting. Then, continue with the rest of the instructions.
After following these steps, you should have 16 stitches on your needle.
If you have any further questions or need clarification on any part of the pattern, feel free to ask, and I'll be glad to assist you. Happy knitting!
