- In this final installment of our Kurzweil PC3x overview series, and after examining the workstation's sound engine and program mode, we get into the zone editing and setup mode, two further ways of unlocking the PC3x's impressive sound-sculpting and live performance power.
With us as always is Kurzweil rep Christian Martirano, a pro keyboardist who's programmed more than a few workstation synths in his day. Christian takes us through the finer points of zone editing and the impressive editing depth of Setup Mode before treating us to an example of how the Kurzweil PC3x can help make complex compositional tasks -- like film scoring -- a more enjoyable experience.
Im new to Kurzweill pc3x and love it. i got mine as a Gift by a friend and i cant believe the sound. Before this i was not a Kurzweill fan, this is definetly added to my kyes Collection. The Sounds Are Crazy!!!
I had a PC2X that I lived. It had different sounds than the PC3, but dynamics were just as good. I sold the PC2x and bought a Yamaha MX88. About 1/2 the weight and somd killer pianos; however, that Kurzweils excel in orchestra sounds. I also have a PC161 which has all the same sounds as the PC2X. I have the PC161 midied up to the MX88...so i have the best of both worlds.
I bought one of these monsters, and while it can be a pain to program in particular veins like FM, it really is untouchable by anything but perhaps the new KORG Kronos and Roland Jupiter-80. And of course VAST is a totally unique synth engine. It's probably the best performance controller synth on the market. Incredible effects too.
There are many people just waiting for Kurzweil to come out with a whole new workstation.
They have the money all ready to buy.

@stryker1999 Check out Sound Tower for the editor for the Kurzweil and it makes it easy to setup features etc.
The drum kit you are playing for the Jeff Beck song has to be put together and stored then used, on the Kronos the drum grooves are ready to go, push a button find the one you want and go with the rest of the keyboard samples, that is what a workstation does not the first part I wrote. The PC3x was never ever meant to be a workstation, I've talked with Kurzweil a lot about this. I wanted a better workstation, the Kronos is it from the older ones I own. The Pc3x is fantastic though.
Wow! this is the best board I have ever seen or heard. Sure I agree that a touch screen and GB's of sample space would be great, but other than that Kurzweil can't be matched....
now imagine this + ssd sounds+big lcd gui -> vast dsp's = heaven
Im waiting for Kurzweil to come out with a whole new model workstation to turn the would upside down. They need to put more memory in the machine so we can do alot more with
the VAST and need more drum kits or control external drum stuff like Vdrums.
A larger screen to move around on. The system functions as it is is powerful but it needs
a better interface screen. I like their sliders and how you can fade in and out sounds.
It just needs a bit more for todays market. Let do it guys.
Would be neat to use the Integra 7 with the PC3K8 and have more sounds 6000 more at your finger tips over midi. The PC3K8 make a great controller from what I have heard too.

They need a new model to come out.
Jordan Rudess has smoked on the Kurzweil PC3x the same way he does with the Kronos. And Korg likes to tout the Kronos as being ground breaking; for a number of reasons, but one reason is the ability to change your patch and have the previous tone continue to sound until you until you play the new patch. But its not new nor unique to the Kronos; Kurzweil has had this feature for quite some time. BTW...I have had both a PC3x and a Kronos. Sent the Kronos back due to a faulty keybed.

While they sound good if it breaks you will have to pay royally to get it fixed. Either ship or transport to their authorized service center only. They will NOT provide any technical info.
The Kurzweil PC3x is not a "workstation" at all, the Kronos is, I own both and other Korgs and Kurzweil's.
