Kurzweil was the bees knees in the late 80’s and 90’s. The Bosendorfer sampling and their action had them ahead of everyone in the stage piano market anyway. I seem to recall Stevie always playing Yamaha during this time period. Guess I’m remembering it wrong though. Seem to never see big boys playing Kurzweil anymore.
K2000 users used to share "patches" over the net (by a mailing list!). Daneil Fisher shared a one finger reproduction of On the Run he wrote for Pink Floyd live performances. It was *_not_* a sample, but a complex patch that you could modify as you played it.
I have an autographed copy of The Singularity is Near from a speech he gave at my workplace about ten years ago. I also went to university with his daughter. Last I checked, he was trying to live until the singularity. Where is Mr. Kurzweil now? Hope he's well.

You are probably referencing a single tone produced by two or more oscillators with fattening modulation of a Moog. If you do a similar thing with a Kurzweil and play a single note in mono unison you'll get that same fullness of tone. I think Kurzweil tried analogue physical modeling but didn't market it. That would have given you that fullness.
How such a so smart and brilliant person that came with some much innovation by the past in music industry with great keyboards could be so much behind technology wise now? Another NAMM goes by and still no K3000, no new high-end Kurzweil electronic keyboard. That's a real shame...
Bring out a new fully analog poly and you will be really doing something. You did digital well but the real challenge would be a top analog. Do you have it in you? Probably not.
He always talks of the future but we all want a new analog poly synth today. A moog still sounds bigger than anything they ever put out so how about they set a new gold standard for analog sound? Get on it.
I have owned two Kurzweil keyboards. The tones sound wonderful. I like the feel of playing their keyboards. The design of the board is aesthetically pleasing. But, I got away from them now. I like a low cost keyboard with backing rhythms, such as a Casio CDP-S350.
Kurzweil is what you get when your company is all Steve Wozniaks and no Steve Jobs. Everyone was focused on building the ultimate wonky sonic architecture and DSP. No one was thinking about the user experience of playing, controlling, and connecting with a physical instrument, which happens to be one of the things people love about acoustic instruments.

agreed and the kurzweils like the k2000 k25000 and so on have !96! to 196 oscillators! so you could damn right get a sound like an arf2600 or minimug
