This news guy is such a UNINFORMED geek. It's obvious he knows NOTHING about Tull or their music. Couldn't the station have prepped him better? I felt bad for Ian having to listen to those absurd questions.
It is absolutely legitimate to focus on the edgy, hardrock side of Tull, and he even proved it with audio clips from a classic and the then current Tull album. IA seemed uneasy probably becasue he is the all-acoustic player in the band, but I am sure he would admit anytime that the incredible rock energy is a key ingredient of the Tull magic.
Man, on almost all Ian interviews on youtube- they ask about where the Jethro Tull name came from............. Anyway, thanks for this rare stuff. Nick
LOL, the "new" album "Catfish Rising". A very great album. Aqualung, a kidney punch to the rock world! Yeah ... and there goes Ian running away from it. Ian seems to have one reflexive response to anything anyone in the media asks him - he just gets oppositional.
I love the wtf look on Ian's face through this interview. I kinda wish he would have gone Johnny Rotten on him and ripped him to shreds instead of just poking the guy.
I hate it when Ian always walks back his rock success ... even his acoustic stuff has tons of energy to it ... I associate Tull's music with a kind of driving energetic life force, acoustic or electric. Listen to Walk Into Light title track of the album.
Ian became a professional at knowing how to protect networks and interview segments from their idiotic, uninformed, dufas hosts. He needs this on his resume. His tolerance and gentlemanly accommodation under this garbage questioning is quite an impressive skill. Kudos to you Ian.
He clearly addressed him as Ian Anderson, but also mentioned the band name once more, perhaps to help viewers to find them in the record store. By the way, recently IA signed a rather angry text on the Tull website about his right to use the Tull name with "ian Anderson, Jethro Tull".
I think they had best be very glad "their agent" agent gave them the name "JethroTull", I don't think they would have been the same band, a considerably worse band if they had not had that very mysterious and funky-exotic kind of a name - unique in the world. better than Uriah Heep, it projects something ... but when you look it up Jethro means kind of a bumpkin, and Tull means fool. Yet together there is some very un-bumpkinish music. I think Ian just wants to take over every aspect of everything, and I don't think it really helps his music, i.e. Mr. Tull's music that is! ;-)
"Jethro" is a male name already present in the Old Testament derived from the Hebrew word for "overflow". "Tull" is probably of Latin origin, "Tullus" being the name of the 3rd Roman king meaning "poeple" or "supporter".
Thanks for this rare footage!
"You're no spring chicken either, babe." LOL
Good old days of ian Anderson and jethro tull

He didn't ask that, he asked if IA would be annoyed being seen as JT.

Ian is too much of an English gentleman for that.

Interesting
Aqualung - first album?
The first album depicting Tull as old men is "This Was". Aqualung is the fourth album.
Ian Anderson always copes quite superbly with these plankton that he has to talk to.
lol i like how the news guy hadnt finished his first sentence while talking to Ian when it became evident that he doesnt know anything about Tull.
What do you mean? I can't detect any mistake.
And he closes a 1-2-1 interview with Ian Anderson by saying: "Jethro Tull, thanking you for being with us." How do these people get these jobs?
Nice jacket Ian!

Exactly my thoughts. Even all-acoustic, Tull usually has more energy than Metallica.
GLORY GLORY HALLELUJAH

That's a bit harsh.
Harsh ... wha???
I think the interviewer was slightly intimidated. How about at the end when he thanks Jethro Tull for coming in, embarassing, or what?

Jethro Tull's versatility is the spice of life.
Why does Ian Anderson feel he can throw insults at his Interviewer?
Bad for Ian...Boo
Jethro is actually very articulate.... just kidding. 🙄
