Very useful ideas here. I am also a shift worker and it was very difficult fitting in all my training for my first marathon back in October. I do 4 on 4 off so often had to cram in my long runs In those 4 days off which wasn’t ideal.
Shiftwork definitely has different challenges compared to working Monday to Friday. It took me a long time to accept the format and work with it versus trying to force a “standard” plan in. How did your marathon go?
@@RunningAlive was awesome 4.08hrs which I was happy with as only been running a year and a half and I’m 40 soon. Aim was 4 hrs but I held back around the 33km point as I’d started to feel it and wanted to just make sure I’d complete it at that stage. Hind sight I could’ve pushed myself more but you live and learn.
so far those thoughts for creating a plan are the same as if you train for a marathon. So what is the difference for a byu ( i doubt you got enough time to get into the shape to get over 24 hours, which would be the minimum to get it above a 100 miler)
Yes very similar concepts to marathon training. You might be right on not having enough time to reach the 24 hour level. But if I fall short, then I fall short
I’m 6’5 235… going to do one next year. Marathon in spring. This is helpful… I want to get down to 220-225 but preserve some muscle.
Keep working mate
Whooooo I'm totally stealing this in prep for my first BYU this spring! Thanks, bud!
I hope it works for you
