Hi Kathy 🤗 Great topic! Yes! my husband retired in April and I just retired in September. I am 61 and he is 63. Prior to this when we were working, we were both at home working remotely so we are used to being together all the time. I find what helps is to have your own space that is yours and is respected. We have some hobbies like cycling and hiking that we both love and do together but we also have our own hobbies (I have ballet class and he likes to keep up his learning on IT stuff). We are both committed to living our best and most healthful lives so this is definitely a bonus. We have butted heads a few times with the TV shows but we have learned to compromise and I like to go to bed earlier and him later but we have met in the middle on that too. I like to have a day away to visit my friends that live out of town at least once a month and that is nice to be separated for a day. Thank goodness my hubby does not watch sports!LOL This would be a deal-breaker for me *wink*. I'm going to teach him how to make his own sourdough bread. This will be a nice hobby for him too! why not?

@@cyclingonplants7444 Thank you so much for weighing in! You both sound a lot like us! We don’t watch sports in our house either. Thank you for watching!

We are planning ahead places and things we want to go and do together. I retired early at 55 unexpectedly so it was a shock all this unprepared free time. I have settled in and realized you can fritter time away if you dont have a plan. So having a plan is key. He will retire this year and he is building a motorcycle. So that his thing to work on. We will be having a list of projects to accomplish, as well as looking after our health with more self care. Walking, biking, hiking ect. I have many craft hobbies that im happy to do by myself. Letting go of more stuff is on the list and just have what we use. I keep letting go of cooking utensils, pots and pans. Our biggest thing is not leaving a mess for those left behind. Getting your house, will, and wishes known to the other spouse.
Hope this helps you. I'm reminded, we can take nothing with us when we are gone. We only have one life, leave a good legacy. Be a blessing not a curse. Tell the stories of you top 5 things you treasure.

I love this!!! I totally agree about having a goal of not leaving a mess for those left behind. That is why I am so into decluttering, downsizing (even if I am not moving into a smaller home), and being organized. Yes, wills are done. I also have my Just In Case of Emergency doc already in the event my husband and I become incapacitated or worse, so my kiddos don't have to grieve along with trying to sort things out. Thank you so much for weighing in!

Start an exercise program together. Get up early in the morning and just take a walk for 30 minutes to start 3 times a week. Also my husband and I exercise at the fitness center and pool 3 hours every other day. Gives you a whole new perspective on retirment time together. Works for us. I'm 71 he's 70.

I hear you lovely lady. If my husband is watching something I dont want to watch, I go to my quiet space. Plenty to do there. Of a day we do our own thing and manage very well to keep out of each others way 🤣😂🤣😂 My husband is quiet and we could go for hours without saying a word to each other. As far as going to bed, I am an early to bed early to rise person. We do retire for the night together but I get up about 2 or 3 hours before he does.

He will need to find a hobby or interest. My husband started playing pickleball last year and now goes every morning and evening to the courts. He's gone a good four hours total.

@@empresspamelaallhoney that’s great that your husband has found a hobby! I am sure my husband has many things on his list that he wants to do in his retirement years. It’s just the day-to-day life things that we need to work as a team on.
