Big questions for the American buyer...
1 do you need a license to drive it?
2 is it street legal since these cars can't keep up with reg speeds of traffic?
    3 are they insurable?
4 are they safe if you are involved in an accident with more typical vehicles?
5 would law enforcement mess with you all the time?
6 how hard is it to get hands on parts or have it worked on? and related
7 what does the routine maintenance look like?
Really the videos I'm seeing they look like ramped up barbie cars that toddlers get for Christmas.
And honestly I do wonder if we should focus instead on more infrastructure for these and also golf carts etc.

None of these would ever be as safe as a full size car. Multi lane highways like the interstates in the US or the Autobahn in Germany are not the places to be driving these cars.
They are nice for city commutes in something like London..... but LA, Boston, Chicago, Houston.....would be too much of a risk with loops around the cities of 8 or more lanes of traffic moving at high speeds. That is why the US doesn't bother even trying to market these types of EVs.

No waiting hours to recharge. No looking for a charging station. I can use the heater and A/C all the time, without reducing my distance per tank. I average 50 mpg all the time. The Prius also costs less than the average E/V. In the future E/V's may have their place, but right now Hybrids are the way to go!

Despite seeing them on the streets for years in Europe, Renault have now quit making them. They created a well received classic and then dropped it - cheers Renault!! The Citroen Ami I don't think will be available in RHD anytime soon. The Unity, which is the best of all worlds - well we have not heard from it for years. Can you compare a small car Smart EQ fortwo and AMI? AMI is more of an improved golf cart than a small car. The price is three times higher for the Smart EQ, but it’s not really the same concept and used materials.

There good but with the roads we have in the uk and in Medway are full of potholes and falling apart you would really need a newly built smooth road for these small elc cars as the cars are plastic light weight and not built for comfort like the new Citroen Ami and if you notice all these new cars showing you in the video are all on new roads that are completely smooth and flat like a f1 racing track

By the way folks, electric cars are nothing new, because I saw a video of the early electric cars, and that was back in the 1920s. They had them plugged into the sockets at the factory so that when a person bought one, they could drive it home immediately and keep them charged when needed. They were small like these, but they were still good to drive. I liked all of these cars, and anyone of them would get me to rhe store or anyplace else that I need to go to.

The cost of driving, fueling and maintaining a car these days and then the threat of crime it’s just not worth running a car. Parking, road taxes, insurances, honestly it’s just easier jumping on the tram and not worrying about it.

There’s no such thing as “cheap EVs” . In comparison with each other that’s about it, against combustion engine vehicles, they are 4-5 times the price of and nothing but an inconvenience to find chargers. Not to mention varying prices make them a pain to own as you still need to babysit them like phones.
For eg i didn’t use my EV for a couple of weeks and come out to find the battery has discharged enough that if it was petrol, it would be classified as a *leak!*
I can leave my petrol car for 6 months, disconnect the battery and connect it back up and it will start and still have a FULL fuel tank…
Not to mention once the battery has dropped its performance on an EV the car is scrap, since it’s 2/3s the overall price of the car

With the sun and the wind I will travel forever. . . since I consume electricity to travel, why not recover some of it using a mini or micro wind generator, with vertical axis, placed externally somewhere in the car and a system of solar panels? These systems will deliver energy. . forever. (I mean: a moving object, like a car, will create a vortex in the air, the wind. When it hits the wind turbine, it will generate electricity that will recharge the batteries).

    • @johnorenick9026
      @johnorenick9026 7 часов назад

It will always take more energy for a vehicle to push a wind turbine through the air than that wind turbine can generate. Always. Otherwise perpetual motion machines would work, and by the laws of physics such things are ridiculously impossible. NO energy conversion, one form to another, ever approaches 100 percent efficiency (except a heat pump, which concentrates rather than converting energy). 60 percent is very good conversion efficiency. I want the best PV cells then available on the electric travel van I hope Detroit will eventually make for me--until they catch on to aluminum-ion-graphene batteries, they will not give me the range I need--but I will expect those PV cells to pick up enough charge for a short daily commute, or maybe, sitting in the sun all week, for a day running errands around town. But a vehicle that can power itself continuously on sun, and on the wind of its own passage? Only if it's made of elf wings and fairy dust.

It's so irritating to hear people talking about range being unfortunately low. I don't think range is a big deal if the batteries are removable and can be charged inside your home with minimal effort. For me, speed is the deciding factor. I can legally travel 55 on a short stretch of my daily commute. I don't need 55 mph but I do need 45. Without that, I'm not a potential buyer. I would think that the same holds true for most people who work in the same city in which they live. I can even go to the restaurant on the outskirts of town in a 45 mph car. I'd get an impeding citation if I tried that in a LSV. Give me 30 miles at 45 mph, an enclosed cabin, decent suspension and a price of $10K or less and I'll buy one within a year of it hitting the market.
