In my opinion. Memiors is her best album period. It’s sonically perfect, completely cohesive, the story it tells is gorgeous, the writing is impeccable, the production is perfect. It’s just a 10/10

This is one of her most underrated collections. I could listen to this whole album from start to finish with no skips and would be very satisfied with how I spent my time.
Angels cry is my fav from this album. The whistle opening is just exactly what I imagine angels would sound like 🥹

My favorite thing about Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel is how clever her lyrics are in these songs. I also loved how you brought up Mariah’s sense of humor. I think she’s so funny yet the general public takes her so seriously for no reason.
Also, it is criminal that the HATEU remix was never released. That’s my favorite remix that would have come from the Angels Advocate album.
So true. They don't get her humour at all. They take everything she does too seriously.
I honestly think she paid for writing credit cause ain’t no way some of these lyrics are from her brain just ain’t adding up
@@84jdubb nobody said she wrote all of the lyrics, white man. Of course there are other people in the studio who worked with her. But people who had the chance of making songs with her have already given the credit she deserves. Even Jermaine said that she's really one of the few singers who actually wrote their songs by themselves. She's been in the industry for years, she knows what she's doing. HAVE YOU worked in the music industry? No. So sit down. And let people who had the experience of getting to work with her do the talking + being an inductee in the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Before you come all sideways read and listen my point was a lot of the lyrics on this album don’t sound like they came from Mariah’s mouth; the sound like they came from the dream…. I've watched all your Mariah albums reactions (and Christina's) and I absolutely love them. As an old fan of Mariah, that makes me feel like I'm re-discovering them and that makes me proud to be a Lamb to see someone of a yonger generation appreciating her artistry. I wanted to comment on this one because "Memoirs" is my second favorite album of hers (and the only reason it's not the first is because "Butterfly" is untouchable in my mind). The beauty of her breathy voice, the strenght of her lyrics. I think it's her most underrated album. It deserved a lot more than it did and it's a shame people started to disregard her at that time (cause the following albums are really good too but I'll let you be the judge of that). Thank you so much for your videos, they enlight my weeks !
Oh no, people didn't disregard her. She had a rough year. The album was leaked 3 weeks before it dropped causing millions of illegal downloads and her label couldn't stop it. Which affected her album sales. Then, she got pregnant, so she had to slow her promo to a crawl. Next, a couple months later, she miscarried and had to stop completely. Then, her manager died. It was one thing after another.
@@xejelah she miscarried in 2008, after the release of "E=MC2", not after the release of "Memoirs" in 2009. 😉 This said, there's truth to what you said. All I know is that after the success of "Touch My Body" on the "E=MC2" album, her popularity has never been the same again.😥
I feel the same way. These album reviews have brought me back to songs I used to love. And it’s an amazing little journey through lambhood!
@@mariahinterviews I feel like she "fell out of grace" from the public opinion for reasons unknown around this time, and as a lamb it was difficult to wrap my head around why she didn't get her proper respect anymore.
I do however feel like she has got a lot more respect lately, after Caution and especially after the Stella debacle and the release of her memoirs (that release did her good as a human being). Artists stand in line to give her her flowers and the media seems more appreciative of her as an icon.

It's titled "memoirs" for a specific reason. Mariah wanted a creative concept album approaching 20 years into the industry. Each song represents a section of her life. So, if she makes a reference to a person, understand, she's not just talking about ONE person - it's multiple who fit into this category. Each song was made to sound like a diary entry where they have enough in common to blend together but different enough to stand out individually. If a diary was an album.
I love the harmonies in Ribbon. That’s my favorite song in this album. Though most of the songs here are gems as well like It’s a Wrap.

Highly recommended listening to the unreleased song “Imperfect” that didn’t make it to this album but inspired the title of the album.

Things I noticed:
1. Not sure if you are aware that ''It's a Wrap'' is where the recent tiktok viral ''it's a wrap (sped up)" came from.
2. Angels Cry the solo version (in this album) was not released as a single. However, the duet version with Neyo was. That's supposed to be part of the shelved Memoirs Remixes album along with Up Out my Face with Nicki, Becha 'Gon Know with R.Kelly, It's a Wrap with Mary J. Blige, remixes for H.A.T.E. U. --I hope you also include the bonus tracks in Chanteuse Album. Some of these tracks were added as bonus tracks there.
3. I Want To Know What Love Is a remake.

Thank you for pointing out the large dose of humor MC brings to her superb, witty music. Memoirs is really one of her best records. Much credit to the Dream. More than just friends is a banger that needs several listens to kick in its greatness. Angels Cry is another highlight. 😊The whole album is an underrated gem different from all her other records 💎

I recently came across this channel and this was the first video I saw. Got captivated instantly and watched all the rest (Mariah related).
This is definitely my favorite Mariah album yet. It tells you a story with many parts and emotions. So cohesive!!!

I think this is her most recent most cohesive works of art. I love the following albums but this one was major.
Really love how much honest insight you put into all your reactions and I agree this album is soo underrated! I used to listen to this constantly driving to and from work during a bad break up. I like it more than emancipation actually. It puts me in a better mood. Also you look a bit like Wentworth Miller who was in her We Belong Together video. I hope that makes your day!
Memoirs is such an understated but incredibly solid album and I don't think it gets the credit it deserves. I didn't realize how good it was on first listen, but now I put it on the same tier as Charmbracelet just below the best of the best.

Your reaction to I Wanna Know What Love Is was everything!!🥲 There isn’t a Mariah album that I wasn’t obsessed with at some point in my life but this is definitely in my top……….5? Hard to say. I know you'll enjoy this album! This is one of her most cohesive albums. This, along with Daydream, Emotions and Butterfly, are the albums that i listen to the most. Also, i prefer this album to The Emancipation Of Mimi. I just love the chill, laidback vibe of this album. It just feels very personal and mature. The lyrics are fun and smart, too. The Emancipation Of Mimi is an amazing album. Definitely a top 5 in her discography. But Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel is something else. While Butterfly still holds the top spot on my list, i have a hard time to choose which album that i like better between this, Daydream and Emotions.

This album is timeless. Some tracks are hit again in tiktok even they're launched more than a decade.
I still remember when the album released and some people, I might call them haters, they destroyed CD in many ways like throwing on road and drove a car upon it.
I personally cannot listen to this album coz it brought me sad memories then especially hateu.
It takes a special ear to review an album on first listen and be really really present.. and you did that! Kudos. Excellent work. Also, we look related 😂😂😂
Yes!!!!! so many amazing things you just said! this is the best followup to Emancipation! I fully agree. Those are the 2 albums I have been listening (emotionally in a weird place now, it is what it is haha) in rotation. So many amazing songs, that I just can't believe we did not get not even 1 at number one...how is that possible?? I love the fact you noticed Mariah's humor, and this album, is the one in which she showed it the most in her writing. Can we acknowledge the depth of "Angels cry"? And let me tell you, even if you are not a romantic person, listening to Mariah's version of "I want to know what love is", will convert you in one. Thanks for sharing as always.

Ahhh Memoirs ✨✨💖🎶🥰🥰 ✨✨✨ . 1st off the album artwork inside is composed of her past Album Covers but she reshot them for this album. During his time she had been collaborating with The Dream for a few projects (including his track, My Love, also has a M.V.)
Now the reason why there weren't any features on this album was because she and her team had thought ahead and created a Remix Album to those one titled, Angel's Advocate(which the label decided to not release) . With fts from, MJ Blige, Ludacris, R Kelly (before his drama) and many other. HATE U has a Killer Remix that samples Quad City DJs classic, My Boo. Also The Impossible samples Forever My Lady (by 90s R&B Group Jodeci)

Interestingly, people weren’t into obsessed as much back then. It was new for Mariah to use autotune in that way, which people didn’t like… then. Now everyone loves it.

I completely agree with you. I personally think it is one of her best albums! And many critics at the time felt it should be up there as one of her best albums. Unfortunately, I think many lambs wanted more purely pop tracks on this album and Hip-Hop/R&B is clearly the dominating sound sonically throughout this album; with the exception of the ending tracks of course. The writing and production across this album is soooooo good and I just think fans and her label kind of let her down with this one after its release.
she made a whole remix EP with this album and it's called "Angels Advocate" but never got released. The only tracks that were released officially were Angels Cry (feat. Ne-Yo), Obsessed (feat. Gucci Mane), and Up Out My Face (feat. Nicki Minaj) while It's A Wrap (feat. Mary Blije) & Betcha Gon Know (feat. R.Kelly) were later on released on 2014 as a deluxe track for Elusive album. There's still remixes from that EP that never got released like collabs with Candy Bling (I Remember (feat. T-Pain), Inseparable (feat.Trey Songz), HATEU (feat. Big Boi), Ribbon (feat. Ludacris), and the unreleased track "Imperfect"
There’s no features on this album but she had planned to release a remix version of the album called Angels Advocate that got scrapped which is why there are some remixes out there 😭

No features because it was supposed to be a 2 part project, part 2 was Angels Advocate where it was the same songs but as duets/remixes but the project never came out. We got a handful leaked but not the whole album.

People will disagree with me but I think Memoirs is Mariah's BEST R&B album, followed by Caution, then Butterfly and lastly Me. I am Mariah. The Elusive Chanteuse (yes, in THAT order).
Butterfly is her opus magnum (her newly initiated self if you will) but Memoirs is R&B PERFECTION!!!!!!!! Please listen to the Angels Cry remix with Neyo. When the two of them layer their vocals TOGETHER - it's simply magic! Mariah's version of "I Want To Know What Love Is" is beautiful but the original still stands the test of time. Listen to the Dance remixes of "I Want To Know What Love Is" and they are simply AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Track 1 (and some other tracks) should've been release as single. A great album. And this was the start of people sleeping on any new album from Mariah. No matter how great the songs were :( people missing on great songs.
Negative feedback: I love her so much but I don't like the cover art. I wish her visual works were more creative & aesthetic.
The original had no features b/c there was plans for a remix album but it got shelved.
Pay attention to the lyrics on the next album a lot of it is about her divorce from Nick

This is by far her oddest album and eras ever nothing really synchs… from the music to messy rollout to the artwork direction but musically it works but i tend to think this album was overly produced with the same sound over and over which for me is good and bad. I have a love / not love for this album but i can’t not love it lmao the only song i would axe is THE IMPOSSIBLE😝😝😝😝
It does have a lot of same sounds, but it’s very cohesive and catchy. I’ve never heard anything that sounds like HATE YOU from anyone.
@@strangerthings88 you're correct they sound similiar one each other, kinda boring to me. I like charmbracelet better. Lambs always said chamb and this album are sisters, and they love this over charm.
