- For the full story check my blog post here: goo.gl/upJ9v. Out walking the dog and I happen across one of the most amazing scenes in Ron Howard's new movie; "Rush". Of course, I had my trusty pocket cam... don't know about you but I can't wait to see this movie. Anticipation! More info at www.bridgetogantry.com

What I liked about RUSH is that a person doesn't even need to be into cars or motorsports to understand its message, and feel the emotion between Lauda and Hunt. Lauda was "half dead" in the hospital because of his rival but his rival is was the same reason he got back on his feet and out of the hospital and back behind the wheel. You can watch this movie and look at life differently.
The movie was absolutely phenomenal. Instantly one of my favs of all time.
It was really surprising to see the re-created crash in the movie was almost identical to the real crash that happened in 1976. Kudos to the directors that went with the authenticity.
There were a few things like the way they got him out and Emerson Fittipaldi helping to save Lauda but overall it was very accurate

Then only a month after its release, one of the guys who played one of the drivers died in a burning wreckage. :(
RIP
might be kinda late but can i ask who?
@@tfg24 i‘m not sure but he might mean Mauro Pane who was the stunt double of Daniel Bruhl (Niki Lauda)
@@tfg24 Sean Edwards
@@kiandonaldson694 Son of Guy Edwards who was one of the Drivers that rescued Lauda
it's really cool that you caught them filming that scene.
Just saw the film, best I've seen in years! The portrayal of that was spot on
I knew they were filming Rush, I knew it was about Lauda. I thought "I know where I should walk my dog today..."
When I saw the flames through the trees, I knew I was right! =D
This is fantastic. Even as a behind-the-scene, it's still mesmerizing to watch.
Great shots. Thank you for sharing.
looks nicely made. thanks for the video dale!
Can't wait to see this film! I've been following Ron Howard on Twitter and he's been posting loads of great pictures over the last few months of the filming and behind the scenes so I know he's trying to make it as faithful and realistic as possible.
Thanks for the upload. Just seeing this one behind the scenes look at Rush was captivating, so I can only imagine how much more captivating the movie will be. (I'm tired of waiting until September.)
great video, thanks for sharing!
Everyone should thank first for posting this interesting video. That's the scoop. I'm really looking forward to seeing this film!!
awesome video! can't wait to see this movie...
During the Williamson crash in 1973 Lauda and probably other drivers were thinking that the burning car (Williamsons car) was the car of the driver who tried to extinguish the fire (indeed Purley). They were not able to see Purleys car standing on the left side of the track, because of a hilltop. So, they were thinking: Burning car, the driver is trying to extinguish the fire. Ergo: THE DRIVER IS SAFE! It was a tragic misunderstanding of the situation. Laudas quote is taken out of context.
Somehow eerie even now..
Cant wait to see this movie!!!
This isn't Hollywood. RUSH is not an American production.
Rush is mainly a British production (with a small part German).
Wow, that's quite an accurate portrayal of the accident, attention to detail here is impressive.
Great clip! Thanks for sharing! Ron Howard directing? So we should not get a second "Driven" ;)
Aaaaaand.... The movie was AMAZING!
Nice scoop Dale
really looking forward to this film
They have removed the barriers on this side too I notice so it's as it was then, so looks like they are trying to get the details right :)
Congratulations!
Nice snapshot!
There IS a hilltop! Have you ever been at the track in Zandvoord? If not, let me assure you that it is impossible to decide just from the video of the crash how the view of the other driver was. But even on the video of the crash (long version) you can see that the whole situation is easy to misinterpret from the other drivers point of view: You come racing along. There is a fire on the right side of the track. There are some people. One in a driver suit with a fire extinguisher. And whoosh...
Fittipaldi was very much there, although often omitted from the list. You are correct with the 4 above but Emerson was also involved.
nice grab - well done, cant wait for movie.
Niki Lauda é uma lenda nesse acidente terrível!
nice work! what did you use to shoot the video, a digi cam or just a phone?
The man with orange and blue helmet is Emerson Fittipaldi. He stop his Copersucar-Fittipaldi car and go to save Nikki from the flames. A real hero.
he wasnt there !
chopperking1122 Emerson is on the race with a Copersucar Fittipaldi. He stops the car and go rescue Nick. you can see the Picture in hear www.ausringers.com/2008/03/08/niki-laudas-crash-at-1976-nurburgring-gp-part-2.html
yeah , I read the link above and it made no mention of fittipaldi at all , its was arturo mezario and harald ertl who pulled him from the car . As well as google makes no mention of fittipaldi pulling him out , or any other link or mention of that accident at all . There is a picture of fittipaldi there , but he probably just stopped after it all happened . someone back me up , please !
chopperking1122 You are right, he was there but didn't help Niki whatsoever.
Not true. Fake!!!
I got 7 days early screening for select theaters! :D
i know this isnt real but did other drivers really reach through the fire trying to save the him? thats pretty amazing.
so u filmed that accidently?
what a lucky guy u are! :)
I'm guessing you're not a Formula One fan. Niki Lauda in modern times has been getting his share of camera time in F-1 races in an honorary position he holds with Mercedes' F-1 team.
Será um grande filme.
What I find so amazing is the comradery the F1 drivers have with eachother .When a soccer player is injured the other club spits on him or kicks :( F1 is the best ,for some reasons I hate electric engines but getting killed in a fire will not happen anymore and for that I bless it!
Martin Meijer you think batteries arnt flamable? theres some real nasty stuff inside batteries
F1 cars don't have electric engines. Theres electricity in the F1 car for the power unit and ERS.. but thats pretty much it.
And batteries can explode by the way.
@Jeeforceful
I actually laughed when I realized they had used yellow flags in the movie scene, I thought "Ooops!! Big blooper!!"
But I made some research later, and I discovered Howard was right here: red flag was not used in the '70ies, even if a car caught fire, the race usually continued under yellow. Look for some footage from Williamson's crash at Zandvoort in 1973, for instance.
I don't know if red flag was in use at that time, but if it was, you got it right: it must have been provided in case of apocalypse only...
Totally agree with you. Talking about the Le Mans tragedy, I think it would have been more dignified to stop the race AND forbid people to leave their seats in order not to create problems to aids. Back then, there was this "the show must go on" attitude in any case: dead and injuried people were part of the sport, anyway, so what on earth to care about?
Jackie Stewart retired that very year, though... And it was sort of a scandal when, three years later, Lauda refused to race in the pouring rain and bravely publicly admitted to be afraid.
no, i live in a town called berlin. :)
but nurburgdale(the uploader) lives "inside" the ring.
yes to light the flames for the scene
Indeed. Fittipaldi did help Lauda, but only after he was already on the floor, out of the car.
The 4 drivers you mention were the only ones brave enough to take Lauda out of the car. Especially the italian, Merzario, he was the one that "dived in" to free Lauda from the seat belt. This shouldn't be messed up by the film makers. And I've got nothing against Emmerson, quite the opposite, he is a great man and a great champion.
Niki Lauda, best F1 driver / jet jockey ever. Good for Ron Howard
I want to se the movie nowwwwww!!!!!
I LOVE the movie And Niki Lauda
Is that Fittipaldi in the black and red helmet? Should he be there, rescuing Lauda? I thought the ones that helped him were Arturo Merzario, Brett Lunger, Guy Edwards and Harald Ertl.
Panasonic HDC-SD10 I think!
actually upon looking at the actual footage, the other cars pretty much come to a stop as they approach the wreckage....god i cannot wait for this movie, going to see this in avx and imax if shot in imax...avx has better sound
Rip Sean
Which sean was that
have not you hear about copyright infringement
I'm guessing you're not acquainted with sarcasm or the old 'did he died' response to a video where someone is injured. I am actually very familiar with F1 and was aware that Niki Lauda survived the crash, is still alive today and that this was actually a scene from a movie (maybe Rush), but i thought id post it anyway, is that trolling? I'm sure I saw Niki Lauder on the grid in Barcelona. Have a nice day
It was a first lap crash so the other cars would either have 7-8 minutes of driving to arrive back at the scene or stopped short of the incident. No body was driving through the crash site.
There was no blue light like that on the Porsche in 1976 !!! It's much more younger than it should be...
Fiitipaldi was invilved in the rescue in 1976?
Sehr interessante Informationen.
watch the trailer, they have the other car hit him, it was probably a scene after that, when some drivers stopped to get him out of the car
O.K. thx :-)
did you get caught
Did the guy at the begging have a torch?
so when we see the actual movie we see a person in the woods holding a camera?:P
Lighter fluid?
are you capable to read the video's title?
Did he die?
0:25 - 0:30 was he setting the car on fire??? sorry for the bad englisch
its for the new film about Hunt and Lauda
This makes me green like the HULK, great good dude!
It is. But black smoke can and will be added later on in post-process of filming. The way it's being done here is the only (well, kinda) way of safely burning a fire.
und warum legt die zweite person feuer?
There is no more racing cars?
Is 'Emerson Fittipaldi' there? Looks like that 'driver' is wearing a Copersucar overalls
Several drivers stopped, some tried to help Lauda, and two actually removed him from the car after the fire was beaten down.
thats the recreation of the crash of Niki lauda...thats NOT a real crash, and yes Niki still lives and is a F1 reporter now a days for the German TV
that is one brave ass stunt man! :O
Wait, so you are telling my all race cars crash fires are not started by a guy with a lighter? I do not believe you.
This is a recreation of the crash for a movie.
They missed the fact of another car hitting him when it ignited and the 10minutes of waiting until the SC arrived
Two cars hit the ferrari while it was burning, another car stopped further back, as the driver had seen the smoke and slowed down.
Another passed during the first part of the crash, others stopped on the grass, several drivers went to help Lauda, some didn't, race marshals arrived with fire extinguishers and the drivers were able to get close enough to lift Lauda out of the car.
The fire safety Porsche arrived and tried to put the car-fire out, while a medic from that car did first aid on Lauda.
The fire burned for around ten minutes, yes, but Lauda was out before that time was up.
Reminded of that remark watching these mid and rear pack drivers save Lauda's life. He was streaking away towards winning the WDC that year.
Mario Andretti said he had no idea what was happening since the organizers did not stop the race.
LOVE Hollywood!
They're making a movie...
Yep, Brett Lunger's Surtees.
im surprised they haven't freaked out and made you remove this
whhose playing lauda?
where are the cameramen lol?
LOL! The guy in the porche was probably like "DAFUQ"
That red Porsche is actually in the movie. If you look closely you can see it pulling up as a response vehicle in the upper left part of the screen when it shows the wreck right after the other F1 racer hit Lauda's car head on.
+James Watts it would probably also be accurate to the cars they used back then but i cannot confirm that with total certainty.
***** perhaps, i would have to see the real thing up until the medical car showed up, i never have and i have yet to find a video of it so that's why i said i wasnt entirely sure but i reckon it was accurate
The Porsche was driven by Sean Edwards in the movie, his father Guy Edwards was one of the original drivers to help save Niki in the real crash, sadly shortly after filming this Sean was killed whilst driver coaching in Australia :(
thats because it for a movie, they make the flames how they want to have the,....
But how didnt david's face melt when the same situation happend to niki?
Fr
Yellow is for when a car crashes on a track and red is for when the race is stopped.
There are no leaves on the trees. The real crash happened in August of '76.
Probably too many risk factors to have them speeding by in addition to have people exposed to fire. They probably do some movie magic to combine shots and or CGI some stuff :)
....Dude...movie. Coming out in 2013
Their was no hilltop..Purley's car was visible to all the other drivers!
Not the best movie to watch before you are joining as a volunteer fire fighter. It's not so much the volunteering it's self, it's the seeing people in burning cars. It's not stopping me though.
I want that orange 911... That sound....
ARTURO MERZARIO WAS THE HERO OF RESCUE...
shouldn't there be other cars driving by as this happens?
