    Dude, you're such a sympathetic guy :)
    I just discovered your channel a few weeks ago and have really enjoyed it so far.
    Also I love the fact that you put pronounciation on such a high spot. As a german I'm used to pronouncing words as natively as possible due to learning it that way in school. I often get the impression that people from other countries (especially americans) don't even try to pronounce foreign words or phrases as in the corresponding language. It's a pleasure to see (or rather hear) you talk about the importance of that and actually doing so yourself :)

    • @quicksilver0294
      @quicksilver0294 5 лет назад +6

      Be careful - It's actually "pronunciation", NOT "pronounciation".

    • @ApertureLolerr
      @ApertureLolerr 5 лет назад +12

      It's interesting you notice this. I can't speak for all Americans everywhere but where I'm from if you try to imitate a native speaker's pronunciation too much, people will think you are being snobby (or bougie - there's a little slang for anyone learning English lol) or you feel you may risk being offensive.
      For instance, I have learned French for years but if I go somewhere and order a croissant, I HAVE to say it with an American accent ("Cress-ant" or "Craw-sahnt" - always with an American "r") or else I'll be teased or people will often give you a face conveying "are you serious right now, get over yourself". It's a shame but it is simply in the culture.

      @@purple0rainn haha ik heb hetzelfde, veel mensen denken ook dat ik buitenlands ben, komt vooral omdat ik ben opgegroeid met mensen van verschillende afkomsten, maar mijn uitspraak is duidelijk en grammatica is prima. Ik leer nu Chinees en mijn neefje spreekt Japans, ik woon in China, dat soort talen zijn toch behoorlijk pittig moet ik zeggen, ik denk dat o.a. Chinees, Japans, Russisch en Arabisch vele malen lastiger zijn dan Nederlands. Maar ik vind het wel opmerkelijk dat ik vrijwel nooit een persoon die niet is opgegroeid in nl heb ontmoet zonder buitenlands accent, terwijl er mensen zijn die dat op de een of andere manier wel voor elkaar kunnen krijgen met die pittigere talen. Wellicht is het omdat Nederlanders fantastisch zijn in Engels waardoor nl leren lastig is.

    So I'm German and I studied English for 8 years in school and I am going to go to the US for a year and live there. I am very interested in the language but in school we don't learn how to speak the language any more. We learn how to write applications and stuff which might be useful but if you want to speak a language fluently school isn't that helpful I think. We only learn the basic vocabulary and grammar but if you want to talk to a native speaker it gets really hard. I can understand people talking in English but speaking is a lot more complicated because you can't think about what you're going to say. But I want to improve that when I'm in America

    I agree %100 make your day nearly fully immersed in that language. For me Netflix with subtitles on helps me tremendously and turns out it's really entertaining and I learn about their culture a bit as well. And mix it up with some games, music, podcast, and youtube classes, I even tried the learn while you sleep videos, not sure if it helps though. One mistake people make is they don't focus on all areas of the language, speaking, writing, listening all matter. Great video!

    Never been outside my country but I can understand what you're saying bec I learnt it myself. We definitely have Eng but it's just our 2nd language and we don't speak it all the time or at all esp home/school/with friends but now I use it and I find it easier express my thoughts than in my own language. Although learning a bit of Korean with my best friend before I got to be fluent def helped better my pronunciation in English. I know weird. But it's just awesome, knowing when I was in 2nd grade, I was "speaking" to myself in giberrish native English accent and when my classmate's driver saw me, I pretended I was on the phone. 😂 It's not perfect, but now, I use English grammar, phonetics, and vocabs to learn other languages. When watching videos, whatever it is about, no matter how low the volume is, just as long as I hear few english words, I'm good. I grew up monolingual but I can learn new languages by doing what I did in learning Kr/Ger/Eng for the first time and make the time frame shorter.

      Something that might help is learning the IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet). It structures all the sounds based on how they are created (where you place your tongue and how you make the sound). It's the script that you see in dictionaries to help with pronunciation. Learning the IPA and focusing on the sounds in your target language can be super helpful!

    I am learning Irish and have been doing it mostly through school but a lot of it outside of school too. For GCSE (I am from Northern Ireland which is in the UK so we do UK qualifications, GCSEs are done when you are 16) i got an A*, highest in my year and highest in my schools record in terms of marks. My teacher was veryyyy particular about pronunciation and i absolutely loved her. I had to mive schools to do A Levels (UK Qualification which is used for entry into University, done when you sre 18) and my Irish teachers at my new school werent very particular about the pronunciation of their students, they were more focused on their students being understood. This led to my pronunciation being completely muddled by my fellow classmates. And it was seriously frustrating cause i could hear the mistakes in their pronunciation that they just never ever got corrected on. It started to change my pronunciation

    I need some advice / Q&A
    I have a huge problem, how do you even get to beginner level 😅 So im really passionate about wanting to learn Japanese, BUT, I literally looked up and researched tools, but most things that are "beginner level" require a basic understanding
    One of my really big challenges is that I have ADHD, which basically has a HUGE impacts my mental functionality in terms of patience, motivation and focusing, plus that I tend to give up easily because my ADHD craves instant gratification.
    Which sucks because there is so many things I want to do, such as, coding, I was so interested and passionate, I had weekly goals, and the idea of being capable was thrilling, BUT because I didn't get instant gratification, or a sense of accomplishment (growing / leveling up) my brain forced me to hate it which sucked so much because I really wanted to do it
    I'm also limited to only free tools because I'm 15 and don't even know how to get a job or where to start! Which is the issue i have with learning Japanese.
    I'm using the process of learning Japanese to catch up on my favorite animes, I'm also utilizing Duolingo to get the "good job" or "you did better than last time" instant gratification and stay motivated.
    What could I do to make this either easier / faster or easier to understand? I want to learn efficiency but not do so much that my brain locks out the possibility forever
    I've only managed to memorize / grasp "good morning", "morning", symbols for "yo" and "mo"
    EDIT: I also can't find any resources on how to actually pronounce things, anyone can mimic, but I don't know how to actually PRONOUNCE the individual sounds, or know of any vocal exercises to build up that ability
    Thank you, whoever may be reading this, for getting to the end of my dumb spiel

    I was born in France, and I live there since I'm a child. My mom is Portuguese, I go to Portugal every summer and my friends are also Portugueses. I learnt english at school (not that true but whatever 😂), and Spanish has always been natural for me. (Cause for me, it's quite the same to Portuguese.) I am also trying to learn Italian and Norwegian at home, since I watched skam and founded this languages very interesting. Italian is not that different from Portuguese and spanish, so I'm learning it easily. And the Norwegian is a little bit harder for me (for the grammar and stuff) but I'm loving it. In september I'm starting to learn Italian at school too, and we'll probably travel to Roma with the class.
    I'd love to have someone I could talk to in Italian or in Norwegian so I could become more fluent. Also tell me if what I wrote doesn't make sense, or if I made mistakes it's always cool to learn new stuff.

      Perfect comment bro, only thing is that You wrote "founded" which I think is wrong, it is "found" in my belief, I also speak perfect spanish since is my native language, and I've been learning English for about 8 years now (I'm 17), but sometimes I still make some mistakes lol, especially in the grammar, but I'm constantly trying to improve everyday. I've also heard that Italian and Portuguese are very easy for us to learn, and I want to learn them, but I'm currently studying German and Russian, so, how true is that?

I've been learning Spanish in school for 3 years, yesterday, I was in a Barne's and noble, and I picked up a harry potter book and, surprisingly, I understood the majority of what was being said. if there are words you don't know yet, keep them in a vocab thingy and y'know, go from there.
