I have an 2005 Troy Bilt Pony N779, 42" cost $1200 back then, had an engine rebuild caused by the seat safety switch, all the plastic holding the grille to the frame is broken, guess I should be happy it's still working.
had my pony since around 06 still running, i'm hoping n praying it keeps going. Mow prices are through the roof. it's been a good mower i haven't been a good owner. But now I'm nicer to it because I don't won't have to buy a new one anytime soon.
Yeah the current prices should make everyone finesse their mower a little more! Hoping it lasts longer for you, do you keep it inside? Thanks for watching!
@@IndRepair yes, my mower doesn't know what rain is. that's probably key to longevity. MTD should be ashamed of themselves for what they're putting out and what they're charging. I don't believe it's bc of supply chain issues, I think it's corporate greed.
Thanks for the video... I have a Troy-Bilt LTX 1842 built in 2003. Intek 18 HP engine. Same color. I noticed a lot newer ones is when you open the hood the side fenders come with it on my LTX 1842 just the hood opens and the fenders stay bolted to the frame and everything. Watching this video I can tell that all the frame and everything and all the metal way cheaper way thinner than my 2003 model. Mine was $1200 at Lowe's, but then again that was 2003. Yeah this one here is really cheaply made sad to say and I do like Troy-Bilt equipment. But I don't think I'd buy this if I had to buy a new one today.
The LTX1842 is a tank for sure! Any mechanic will tell you they hate this hood design! I have seen about 10 of these newer, cheaper frames cracked or broken at the motor base!
ya, troy bilt is doing a GREAT job of lowering the quality of their mowers while simultaneously raising prices. Prices for low end riding mowers have gone up at least $700 in less than a year and they're still rising.
@@IndRepair yep, the low end John Deere S100 lawn tractor was $1699 at Home Depot in November 2021. Now it's $2399 IF you can get it. I would recommend returning this for sure if you can! I would recommend Simplicity mowers if you have a dealer around. These mowers are made much better all around and the issues associated with these other brands are not an issue with the Simplicity line. Glad you found us before getting too far with the mower! Thanks for watching!
I just picked up this mower today with very limited use for $1000.. so I saved a ton. If I have to put a couple hundred into it down the road I'll still come out ahead.
At $1000 for a residential yard this mower would be worth it for sure! Just police the yard before mowing, don't hit the stump or water shut off and it will last for quite a while!
Chains and tires can be found pretty much anywhere online anymore depending on exactly what you are looking for. What are you planning on using it for?
I bought a new $3500 Troy Bilt riding mower. After 25 uses, the motor self-destructed. Turns out Troy Bilt is using Chinese-made engines. Taking it to their nearest "approved" warranty repair facility is 7-hours of driving.
I hear this story 3 times a week, warranties are a joke on any equipment you do not buy from someone that will service it themselves. The wait will be 6-12 weeks and they will probably claim inadequate maintenace like most other claims
The one shown is a Handy Sam 1000lb lift. I am not sure of the model number I bought it new from a guy who got it with his cruiser. They sell what looks to be exactly the same lift made by A Plus Lifts, Handy, Black Widow, Tuxedo, Pro Lift and many more. This says it is rated for 1,000 lb but I have used it for much heavier things and most of them with the same design and large cylinder are rated for 1,500 lb. It is made well. Thanks for watching!
I agree, some point out it is all they can afford and I understand that also but you definitely have to take care of it and be very careful if that's the case
Well, if they're so bad, why do they make em' in the first place. Every review of these mowers are not favorable. I have one and it does just what a MOWER is supposed to do., it cuts grass. So, they may be crap to you , but it 's a life saver for me.
There is a market for lower end anything, and many times it is the only option. I understand people need these mowers sometimes, and they can last a long time if taken well care of. If they are abused they will not hold up well at all
These things are not worth anywhere near that much money. If you can get a nice condition low hour used one for less then $600 then I’d say go for it. But it’s still going to be a POS mower and your going to be working on it all the time. Much better off getting a Scag stander they are around 12-13k but they are built like a brick shithouse and will probably last a lifetime in a typical residential application if you do the basic maintenance. When we’re only talking about less then 5x the price of this pile of shit for a top of the line commercial mower you’d have to be an idiot to buy one of these things for $2600 or even $2000. In my opinion these POS mowers are only worth $900 to $1000 new. $2600 is an absolute ripoff! I know I know our money isn’t worth anything anymore, but then why hasn’t our pay gone up the same percentage as the cost of everything else?
I see people that take care of them get a lot of life from them but I agree, not well made at all. If you can afford a high end mower that is the way to go but many can not, unfortunately. It is crazy that a few years ago it was less than half the price as they are now
