    The hand at the end with the Greeks is a right hand so it is the other hand in the set. There's also the possibility of more hands than we think so who knows!

    is this that movie where the guy is like "Don't talk to me until I've had my coffee" but then he starts choking on a snack and needs someone to talk to him?

    RackaRacka defined my teen years. Hearing that A24 picked it up was such a proud moment and seeing how genuinely good it was in theatres was crazy given they're the only channel I ever bought merch from and spent the better part of three years impersonating (Ronald McDonald). They will go onto do great things I'm sure. 9/10

    I think the other hand was shown at the end, either that or there was a long passage of time as the hand seems to be in another country. Also with her Dad and Riley recovering it seemed clear that she experiences time differently as a spirit and so everything she sees at the end may be months into the future. I think a sequel with Riley as the lead could be cool but this is great as a one off as well. Hope to see a lot more from these directors and Sophie Wilde. Also was awesome to see Miranda Otto as the mom as a big LOTR fan!

    Saw it last night, thought it was brilliant, for a directorial debut too I was very impressed. I wouldn't say it's 'the next hereditary' like a lot of people seem to be claiming. Overall I agree with you both though, around a 7 or 8/10 is what I'm leaning towards!

  • @JaySeal108
    @JaySeal108 Год назад +3

    Yeah if there IS a sequel: The first said “they’re still looking for the other hand” but I would want the reveal to be that there are LOADS of these hands, and each has a similar urban legend of “They’re still looking for the other hand,” mythologizing something that on a wider scale is actually depressingly (life-ruiningly) mundane.
    Also as a lefthanded individual I found the representation in Talk To Me to be offensive and problematic. 😁

    Is it weird to say that this movie felt more horrifying than scary? Like what happens and how it ends is existentially horrifying but its not a scare every five minutes kind of movie which makes it way better.

    they mentioned at one point that it was the hand of a medium or satanist and in that conversation they say that “the other hand is still out there somewhere” so i think the hand at the end is probably just the other one. but who knows i think it was still a left hand

    The movie was okay, very good for a debut, but it's 100% being overrated by the internet audience of that youtube channel. The acting was probably the best part, and I hope everyone that worked on it gets to do more things in the future.
    On the point about the audience of the youtube channel overrating the film, I've noticed this becoming a bigger and bigger trend in films and mass media in general in recent years when it comes to publicity, where a piece of media develops a "community" of followers (if you were neutral toward them you would call them stans, if you were annoyed with them you might call them shills) that proselytize on behalf of it across social media because they like the feeling of being in an "insurgency", like Jackie Aprile in the Sopranos being desperate to make a splash and get noticed as a young up-and-comer that the grownups would take seriously and respect.
    It's like there's this unspoken understanding on social media that the perception of a piece of media and its long term reputation are incredibly malleable and can be shaped entirely by the most persistent reactions and messaging that it receives after coming out, so people who are really devoted to a given piece of media for any number of reasons work really hard (often for free) to "canonize" a certain viewpoint on it for posterity. It helps to imagine this as dozens of people constantly editing and re-editing the Wikipedia page of a celebrity that half of them love and half of them hate in this weird digital battle for the way the celebrity is remembered by the "record".
    I've noticed it with games, movies, albums, celebrities, corporations, kpop (those "come on onces/midzys, we've worked so hard for our girls! let's keep working hard and get them to 50M views!" comments are something else), all kinds of things. Whenever something is released, the most terminally online people that are most invested in its positive or negative reception will either drag it unfairly or call it the greatest thing ever, almost as if they're reacting to a political candidate, because they want to do everything they can to exert as much influence as they can on the industry, the zeitgeist, and the perceived public record. This wasn't really about Talk to Me, but it was on my mind because it's a growing trend that I've just found very disturbing, annoying, and most importantly very cynical, artificial, and disingenuous, and it doesn't show signs of ever stopping or mellowing out.
