My son and I just rode our CRF300s 5250km from Perth to Sydney (via Phillip Island). Zero issues with the bikes and confirmed that these bikes are amazing! 👍🏍
I rode my CRF300 Rally 9500km (stock except for the Nitron rear shock - edited this since I meant no performance/power upgrades) through 13 European countries, with luggage and passenger. No issues. Planning another euro trip for 2023. If you're in doubt, doubt no more. This bike can do it all. Love it. Never selling it.
@@stoicwarrior346 it can do it, at around 100-110kmh, but I wouldn't do it unless I'm in a hurry. Longest highway ride was about 50 km. Above 90kmh even 6th gear pulls alright with a heavy load.
@@Spirit_Bear2by stock I did mean no performance upgrades. May have to edit my first comment - I do have a Nitron rear shock which makes all the difference. I agree the stock shock is not good and it came off the bike after 2 weeks. Did another trip this summer from the Arctic circle in Finland to Slovenia, Italy, over Passo Falzarago to Austria and back to Lapland - all with luggage and passenger again. No issues, bike now has 23k on the clock, and has only had regular oil changes, filters and a new chain and sprockets. Still recommend the bike 👍
I love the Rally tower that you built Shawn. I bought some cheap crash bars from a Romanian company off the internet for my 250 Rally ,$80 American ,but they have been worth their weight in gold after crashes.

Excellent synopsis on a great product. Similar mods on bike about 240000 ks on it and a lot more scratches lol most of them on adventure rides. No issues at all. This is such a capable and easy to live with little bike

Hello, love your videos on the Honda CRF300 Rally, I am buying it this weekend, after having done a great deal of research. I don't know much about motorcycles, but keen to learn and you have been a literal goldmine of information, knowledge and wisdom. Was wondering though, do you have a dual fuel tank setup on your bike in this video? I noticed you seem to have a spare or reserve fuel tank attached at the rear of the motorcycle, very interested in knowing qwhat the story is with that. Or maybe I am confused? Hi. Can I ask which handlebar you fitted? Pro Taper with Henry Reed bend I wrote down, but I don't think you said which one. I see they do EVO and others in fat bar. Thanks. I'm currently using a KTM one I had, but the rearward bend isn't as much as the stock bar which means the natural position of your hands is different, kind of digs in to the thumb area while the little finger doesn't naturally sit on the grip and after medium to long day your thumb area really complains. Thanks! By the way, those soft grips you recommended are ace! Wish I'd discovered those years ago! They get rid of a lot of the bar vibes as a bonus.

I have a question. Just wondering how well the countershaft is holding up. I noticed itchy boots had to change hers out after only 40,000kms. Of course this could be premature wear because of bad chain management and over tightening of the chain. This can be the Achilles heal for many dirt bikes? Thanks for your review
I’ve been watching your videos for a while and enjoy your content and information on this bike. Just a quick question on your handlebar crash pad looks like it easily clips on and off, what brand/type is this and have you had it come off while riding or while performing a not so often crash?
Hi mate, thanks for watching and your comment. The handlebar pad is just and old Pro Taper one I had laying around. With the oversized bar clamps I have, it sits on nice and tight but is easy to take off. Usually you have the cover over them, but I prefer the plain look... With my logo sticker of course 👍

Nice sum up Shonky. How is the riding with the Barkbusters Bar End Weights? Are these really noticable? Are they reducing bar vibrations that well? Thinking of adding some to my bar because of fine vibrations coming through the bar grips (which are already Soft Rally grips)....want to get rid of those vibrations or even get them reduced. Any idea? ARX Rally Tower is really nice but i would prefer a bigger windshield....
Hi mate, thanks for the comments. The bar end weights got rid of the last of the vibrations in my bars. And you are thinking exactly the same as me in relation to the size if the ARX screen. I have ordered a different screen to try... so stay tuned.

Hi John, I forgot to mention that it makes the speedo dead accurate. There will be a NSW ride early in the new year. I will be pre-running and exploring routes in the next few weeks if anyone wants to join me.
Hi Jeff, the tank I have was designed for the CRF250L/Rally and all the brackets had to be custom made for the 300. And yes, I had to cut off the grab handle off the rack and re-weld it so it would clear the filler. Camel ADV now do one for the 300 but is a smaller size. I really like the ability to carry 18L when needed.
Great info, how do you like Dunlop 952's, Im between 952's and Michelin Trackers, my riding is always 30% road(50-80km) until I do some off roading , are 952's good choice for that , Ive tried D606 before and didnt like them offroad.
I haven't done a lot of kilometres on the 952's yet, but they do well off road. I found the front performs better with more pressure in it, as I had a little understeer on loose ground when running softer. The Trackers worked well everywhere but I'm hoping the 952's last a little longer. I would buy the Trackers again, but I wanted to see how the cheaper 952's perform... so for, so good, just need to put more K's on them.
Hi Mickey, the standard ARX screen is smaller than the standard one so it doesn't offer as much wind protection. If you follow me on Facebook, you will se that I have installed a new prototype screen on my bike now and it is similar to the standard screen size but resembles the factory CRF450 Rally bike screens.

Hi Brad, The seat cover is just a cheap "Air Mesh" cover from eBay. It helps in hot weather by letting some air under your butt and in rain by letting the water drain out so you don't sit in a puddle. I find it adds an extra layer of comfort. The bar ends are a Barkbuster product designed to suit their hand guards. Most motorcycles have bar end weights from the factory, even the CRF300, so when you change the stock bars you sometimes feel more vibrations through the bars... These fix that.
@@b-radsadventures6846 Yes, the 250 is just as good. When I rode a well set-up 250 back-to back with mine, I was surprised how well the 250 went. The 300 does have a little bit more power and torque but I would say that, if you have the 250 it's not really worth the money to upgrade to the 300.

I have a Moto-X full system, but had mounted an Akrapovic muffler on it. And yes, that's a fuel tank designed for the CRF250L/Rally. I had to custom make all the mounts because the subframe is different on the 300. My suspension was re-valved and re-sprung by a local suspension tuner.
Im at 6,500 miles on mine. I have had it for about 6 months. Im honestly torn between selling it and getting an Africa Twin or doing the cams and intake boot like you did for a little more power. Im 260lbs and commute every day on it. Would like just a little more power at highway speeds. I have it pretty well sorted at this point with full Rally Raid suspension and other typical mods but it just lacks the HP for riding comfortably in traffic.
I came from an Africa Twin to the CRF300 because I wanted more off-road ability. I would suggest reaching out to someone local that has done the cam/intake mods and seeing if you can get a ride. That way you can see if it's the answer to your highway speed issues. You need to remember that we are only playing with 286cc. These mods have made it the perfect adventure bike for me, and I do a lot of highway at 120kph, but I am only 152lbs. I know loading the bike up with luggage sticking out produces more wind drag and headwinds also affect top speed. With my gearing if it does start to struggle in 6th, I can drop it down to 5th and still have plenty of power. I have tested 5th gear to 130kph. Sorry I can't totally answer your question.
If you enjoy smaller bikes and running them down off-road, you’ll find the África Twin is a lot more heavier, therefore harder to control, if you’re used to lightweight bike.
Your 6,500 miles are probably mostly on pavement. So it's understandable about wanting more horsepower for the pavement. If you're still thinking about the Africa Twin for adventure road riding with some easy dirt roads it's perfect for that. But forget about getting crushed under a 550 pounder compared to a light & versatile 335 pounder on those off road destinations. Let's be honest, the 300 Rally is basically created to allow you to ride to those out-of-the-way backcountry trails.
Hi great video report, just asking I am almost 100kg 173cm…with the widely discussed suspension issues ,is it feasible for me to stand up on this bike ,until I can afford the rally raid or similar upgrade ? I am buying bike new and the $10500 plus insurance costs will blow my budget. So basically I am asking is will standing up over rough ground and potholes mask the suspension issues? Can this bike be ridden by a 173 cm standing up? I am really torn between this bike and a Honda CB500x as it will be my only means of transport to work ect. Also the KLR 650 has interested me despite its weight .

No, I haven't ridden with Dave for a while, but I did see he is now building a Husky 500 into an adventure bike, so that might indicate that he is now realising that smaller is better off road.
@@tarjas Similar weight on paper, but much different once you are riding the bikes. The 701 is very top heavy and not as easy to maneuver in tight, steep or rough situations.
Good question John... I did run 14/38 for a long time and there is only a very small difference in overall gearing between the two. I like the fact that a 15t sprocket will last slightly longer, is a cheaper way to do it and I feel that it just works better for me. The factory case saver still fits, I just had to grind 1mm off the bottom to get it back on.
@@ShonkyProductions windshield options are plentiful. Transmission is relatively wide range (4K rpm at 60mph vs 6k rpm rally) 22hp at the wheel isn’t enough for the highway, particularly with wind/incline. And the rally is too heavy for a pure trail bike, prob fine for back roads. DR650 only weighs 30lbs more and will touch 100mph with a tailwind. Cruises at 75-80 with overtake power. 17 inch has never been limiting. All my opinion of course.

Noraly of Itchy Boots takes hers through a heck of a lot more than you ever thought of doing, with no mods!!! She has done over 30,000 miles in 1/2 a year. Throuhg the Amazon Jungle all the way up to Alaska and everything off road there is to do in-between.
Yes, she has done a lot of miles over some challenging terrain but I'm not sure about your no mods statement. Didn't she get the suspension done? How many adventure miles have you done this year?
Noraly has accomplished a lot on her Rally at a very chilled pace. She's not the pinnacle of adventure riding like all these love struck middle aged men think. This guy rides his bike way harder and faster. She hasn't done anything as tough as a self supported Simpson trip.

I have a cb500x. Use for commuting. It is exactly what you need. Perfect amount of punch in traffic 👍🏻
Hi great video report, just asking I am almost 100kg 173cm…with the widely discussed suspension issues ,is it feasible for me to stand up on this bike ,until I can afford the rally raid or similar upgrade ?
I am buying bike new and the $10500 plus insurance costs will blow my budget.
So basically I am asking is will standing up over rough ground and potholes mask the suspension issues?
Can this bike be ridden by a 173 cm standing up?
I am really torn between this bike and a Honda CB500x as it will be my only means of transport to work ect.
Also the KLR 650 has interested me despite its weight .
If you're going slow, it will be fine.

Thanks for sharing the dyno charts, Shawn. Has Dave ridden your bike fully modded and commented? I know he likes the 701 but the 300L has to be the better bike in the slower stuff.
No, I haven't ridden with Dave for a while, but I did see he is now building a Husky 500 into an adventure bike, so that might indicate that he is now realising that smaller is better off road.

@@ShonkyProductions are you saying the rally is smaller than the 701? Maybe for a short guy.
@@tarjas Similar weight on paper, but much different once you are riding the bikes. The 701 is very top heavy and not as easy to maneuver in tight, steep or rough situations.
What turn signals are those. I have torn off multiples in the bushes
Hi Mate, they are the standard Australian model turn signals. We get LED lights and LED turn signals from the factory.
Why not go with 14/38 gearing? I have a 15T front sprocket not installed but it looks like it will not fit with the front case saver
Good question John... I did run 14/38 for a long time and there is only a very small difference in overall gearing between the two. I like the fact that a 15t sprocket will last slightly longer, is a cheaper way to do it and I feel that it just works better for me. The factory case saver still fits, I just had to grind 1mm off the bottom to get it back on.

@@ShonkyProductions windshield options are plentiful. Transmission is relatively wide range (4K rpm at 60mph vs 6k rpm rally) 22hp at the wheel isn’t enough for the highway, particularly with wind/incline. And the rally is too heavy for a pure trail bike, prob fine for back roads. DR650 only weighs 30lbs more and will touch 100mph with a tailwind. Cruises at 75-80 with overtake power. 17 inch has never been limiting. All my opinion of course.
And for a tinkerer (like me) the aftermarket options are nearly endless.

She has done over 30,000 miles in 1/2 a year. Throuhg the Amazon Jungle all the way up to Alaska and everything off road there is to do in-between.
Yes, she has done a lot of miles over some challenging terrain but I'm not sure about your no mods statement. Didn't she get the suspension done?

Noraly has accomplished a lot on her Rally at a very chilled pace. She's not the pinnacle of adventure riding like all these love struck middle aged men think. This guy rides his bike way harder and faster. She hasn't done anything as tough as a self supported Simpson trip.
