The pillars in the Blade Bearer and Cannoneer fight are to switch aggro from you to your partner. It's the best example of the game being made for using a companion tbh.
While I may heavily disagree with many of the early picks (especially the order of the successors and Mido), I certainly can agree that the Hellfire Knight is probably the best boss in the game. The fight is quite challenging but fair, and feels very rewarding when a victory is finally achieved. The Lord of Thunder being at the top is well justified, his attacks are so unpredictable and can easily catch you even when you are running away. Not to mention some of the hunter achievements associated with him.
Lord of thunder definitely is or what seems to be one of the most unpredictable bosses in the game but I’ve come to find out that some of his attacks are pretty telegraphed depending on the posture he’s taking or what movements he does
This video was great! Not only did u share ur thoughts about these boss but u also explain a little bit abt their mechanism. It was helpful for Soul-like newbie. I played with AI Yakumo and Io and the hardest fights to me was Invading Executioner, Gilded Hunter, Queen's Knight Reborn and BB&Cannoneer. I died most at Gilded Hunter that i nearly quit though but decided to stay for the character design
I finished the game few weeks ago using quick halberd build, and my experience is so different from yours because of that. The hardest fight for me was definitely a goddamn butterfly. Because I was still new to the game I had no clue about dodge timing, heal management and stuff. Took me few hours to finish her. Good thing we was given Coco's Blood Code around that time and I mastered her poison removal. Bosses like Juzo Mido and Skull King were relatively hard for me too because with light build they essentially one shot you in the second stage. But mage-type bosses like Throat, Virgin Reborn or Ribcage are so much easier with how fast you can close a distance to boss and your i-frame with dodges are noticeably bigger. As for BB and Cannoneer, in main lore fight hiding behind the pillars was my strategy. But not exactly right behind them, but closer to corners of arena. That way I had few seconds alone with BB while Cannoneer is approaching, and even if he shoot his fireball it usually getting blocked by the pillar. In the Depth fight I had to switch my strategy all around. There is nothing to hide behind, so I had to dodge all BB attacks and slowly chip down Cannoneer. And oh boy BB's second stage there is a nightmare. She is as fast as before, while dealing what feels like twice her damage, and also she is so fast that even with me using Impaler I had hard time landing a hit on her.
Great list. For me, the hardest was Argent Wolf Beserker (Thinking because smaller fight area) and the first Queens Knight (Not even the Queens Knight Reborn much later in the game). The Blade Bearer and Cannoneer only took me 2-3 tries after I stocked up on Anti-freeze and Fireproof tonics. Always played equipped with 2H Zweinhander and with Yakumo as partner. Good on you for fighting all the bosses solo.
My reaction to the DLC bosses Hellfire Knight: ma boi Hannibal you are still one of my favorite bosses in the game ever since the PSP days Frozen Empress: Marduk what did they do to you? Went from a difficult but fun encounter to just pure frustration. I was also using a 2H sword and it felt impossible. Only boss I had to have other player help for Lots of Thunder: this halfway point between a Dyaus Pita and Vajra is very intimidating and honestly felt a little unfair but in a good way. A good fight for one run. Every run after that I use a one shot build to kill it in seconds because I can’t be arsed to do that again
Mido is hard only when u are scared of him and back away all the time. If he hits you, it's best to continue dodging and attacking rather than backing away to heal. Especially if you try to circle to his backside. That interrupts gis combos.
while it may be easier in the first play through, once you get to ng2, it gets much harder. beginning enemies deal as much damage and have as much health as endgame enemies, and it goes up to ng10
The dlc bosses are all based on aragamie from the god eater series. Turns out the hundreds of ours I poured into that series were good for something, cuz I killed thunderkitty fist try. Figured it was becouse I was using compagnions and went at it solo... and killed him fist try again (hellfire knight and frozen empress both only took 2 and 3 tries respectifly before took them down)
Just finished my first run of code vein with dlcs included. Wanted to see if people were also having trouble with the dlcs cuz man oh man did these dlcs kick my ass. It took me almost two days to beat lord of thunder. Probably took me 70+ tries as well. And dude props to you for using a great sword 😂. I simply couldn’t have lol. I went with a good ol enduring crimson for them fast attacks. As much of a pain as lord of thunder was, I still had a really good time fighting it. Just because at a point I would get so in the zone and dodge his attacks perfectly and it just felt really cool each time lol. But nah i would do so well until he would do his dumb DOUBLE SPINS 😭😭. Would instant kill me each timeee. Nevertheless I really enjoyed code vein. Bosses were hard at first but you would learn how to deal with them. Good ol practice practice practice. Great tier list as well! Wish more people talked about code vein 😭
I recently finished the game and all DLC, I always used the one handed DEX sword build with some buffs + venom. I have to say my experience with some of the bosses was way different from yours (I also soloed the game). Juzo Mido was extremely hard because of his random attack patterns on sword swings. Sometimes he would swing once, sometimes twice, sometimes thrice and then sometimes immediately follow up with red claw attack, all his attacks wiped about 40-50% of my HP. So I could not memorize properly and constantly got hit. I only managed to beat him by attacking ONLY when he casts a spell. Gilded Hunter was a nightmare. This is the only part of the game where I used block, period. It also took about 10 attempts before I realized the second phase wears off, but I still needed around 10 more attempts to beat him, I hate this boss and would seriously put him in Top 5. Meanwhile the Despot and Berserker were both very easy. Berserker has, like, 2-3 attacks? Which is always a 2-hit combo with obvious tells + backstab. Despot just couldn't hit me at all while I was under him, even on phase 2. And Virgin Born, while badly designed, was not hard - he is way easier without a lock on so the camera does not go crazy. Agreed with all other placements and especially your opinion on Hellfire Knight - this is the only boss that I actively did challenge trials for like fighting with Prometheus, because I just love to fight this boss. Frozen Empress is just a gimmicky BS in my opinion. I would also put Lord of Thunder at number 1 - what an insane fight, BUT, it has a gimmick as well which few people mention - if you parry his attacks it immediately resets his color to blank on phase 1 and purple on phase 2, meaning you don't even have to deal with BS backflip on phase 1 and super thunder shower on phase 2. He is still tough as balls, but learning to parry him makes him much easier, so I did not need 73 attempts, just about 30-40:)
From the dozen of times I’ve fought lord of thunder, he can do the backflip attack in ANY phase it just depends on your positioning relative to his body👌
@@connerlong2404 on phase 2 yes, anytime. On phase 1 he won't do it if he does not have at least purple. He will slowly turn around and either try to slap you or do a wing/electric attack

So yea he can do the backflip attack in any power up phase including blank
I played sometimes using a 1h sword, a caster bayonet, and a halberd build in the late game. I fully used the companion system as I felt it worked better with the game. Gilded Knight gave me the most trouble out of all the fights with the water stripper and the butterfly being close follow-ups. Flamethrower Smough and Waifu Ornstein weren't that difficult as your partner will take the aggro of one of them allowing you to finish the other off and gank the survivor.
Using Zweihander is a bit of a cheat. The defence it provides while guarding is nearly impenetrable; it's basically a Spartan's shield. Put the right blood veil on and nothing can hurt you. I used a one handed sword style build when I played this game; ranked the bosses too, Hatsune Miku is pretty high on mine as well; and I found it to be more challenging which enhanced the fun aspect.
No way Despot is that high. I had more trouble against Successor of the Claw then Despot. He’s easy to avoid and the crystals give free ichor for mage builds.
Believe it or not, there is a special method I have found that makes the Lord of Thunder easier to handle. That amped up state he has can be broken by dealing enough damage fast enough. Though he resists fire very heavily, I recommend using the homing fireball gift you can get from the Successor of the Claw. The shots homing means him moving around isn't as bad, and if you can actually keep up the pressure, not only will you power down his amp state, you'll stagger the hell out of him. Just keep enough Ichor to keep casting that spell, and you will utterly break him if your also using his primary weakness of Ice attacks. It's tough, but that's the tactic I used to beat him legit that wasn't an insta kill build.
@@connerlong2404 now that I did not know, since I went for the True Ending my first run, I didn't have access to that. Thank you! Now my go at him for NG+ has a silver bullet I can use!

Lmao we had exact opposite experiences with Mido. He would chunk over 2/3 of my health in one hit. Every time he did the 4 spinning orbs attack id be thrilled bc its the only attack I could consistently dodge. Lmao. His range upgrade in phase 2 made him the hardest boss in the main game for me. By a massive margin. (I used the blade bearer's icy sword and focused dex and speed all game) Big agree about argent wolf berserker lmao he was the first boss that made me need to take a break and walk away due to rage. The damn run to him was awful!!!! I literally don't remember the guilded hunter. I know I took a few month break at Mido but I literally don't remember him. I'll have to do ng+ I guess lmao. The pillars in BB&C are so dumb!!!! Big agree!!!! Why in the name of game development does every attack go right though them!!!!! Doing this fight solo does add so much difficulty, I've heard a few people who played with no companion and they all put these guys in top 3, id put them down at like 6 or 7. (But the depths version!!! Big agree!!! I also never saw phase 2 BB since the strat of killing her first is so Vital in normal fight) I love the video! The descriptions of each boss made each rank super fitting and it was really enjoyable to watch!
Thank you for such in an in depth comment and also for your thoughts on the bosses too! It's interesting how different builds can have vastly different experience of the same fight. Thank you for the support!
Idk if anyone else has written this but the thing with the Successor of the Ribcage is, that most people probably did it with a partner as well as Yakumo being the partner. In my expirience the Successor practically gets stunlocked when you and Yakumo bonk her into the Shadow realm with your Greatswords. Personally I agree with Hellfire being the best boss in the game, together with Skull King. Whilst Skull might be simple, he and the Knight are just super fun to play against. Unlike that one empress that kills any kind of fun I could expirience.. and Holy shit that Butterfly just pissed me off when I first played (and first tried out New Game+). (Also Controversial take, but I think they should've added the taking the other Powers part from the Depths of Blade Bearer and Canoneer into the Main Story fight)
the most op build is 4 passives of the Health Stimulant, Regeneration Shift, Improved Regeneration and Augmented Regeneration. this combo will let you tank through or just observe any fight that is giving you fits, like one of the DLC bosses. also for blade bearer and canoneer, the Eos blood code from Io gives a all element resistant buff just before that fight in the story and is the best use of instantly mastering any ability.
the problem with your difficulties, is faster builds dodge through and attack in the open window. also the bosses assume you have a partner. If you want to go alone that's okay, but don't act like that is the intended play style.
The start of this video had me concerned with ur first 2 being very similar to the demodcracy’s list but after that its different so im here to say im sorry i judged so early. Good video fella, keep it up
Honestly my original comment just got invalidated by another i saw mentioning builds, which changes what im gonna say. This game made it clear to me that it wants you to adapt to the bosses, boss too fast? Light weapons, get in and out. Cant let the boss be around too long/generous windows for damage? Go heavy and melt. It definitely has its flaws but what does interest me is the massive difference in experienced difficulty; for me my 3 hardest fights were the last 3 minus virgin born, in chronological order too, i do also wonder if the fact that i leveled my character more changed my opinion too, i was lvl 140 when i veat the game and the 1 out of 3 times the judgement spear of virgin born hit me, i had time to heal while Io took aggro. As for ribcage, i didnt struggle at all with that fight, using assassins sickle i charge attacked into melee range, hit while i could and then dodged out, nit to say i didnt have to heal but its always been a 1st try. Also regarding Judo since 1 shots are something you also clearly fear, im curious as to why he was ranked so low considering the first 3 times i fought him, every time i got him low he one shot me with an unexpected massive aoe swing that took me from over 2.5k HP to 0 with a damage reduction gift active. Also the simple combination of cleansing light and iron will may have changed your ranking on quite a few of these, personally i dont see how i wouldve beaten skull king without it since im new to soulslikes and therefore "just dodge" isnt something that i have hardwired from experience to execute consistently, especially considering that multiple times i've dodged one atk of argent wolfs combo and landed directly into the first frame of the next leading me to suffer the rest of the combo; its also worth mentioning that 3 times i died whole healing because my ally Dodged between me and the boss as he llused his long range atk causing it ti hit me halfway across the arena before my healing went through. On the topic of allies too, idk if its rng but in 1/3 attempts my ally would run in at the start, take a lot of aggro and then die in the first 25% HP ofnthe boss leaving me with no on ti take aggro wyike i heal in phase 2 when he doesnt relent. Gotta say though i do wonder if i had to rank all the bosses from easiest to hardest how i'd do it
Imo there are too many defenssive gifts. Being able to be as squishy as 10% damage reduction to as tanky as ~85% is a bit too far. Also some of your boss ranking is the middle section are insanely bias towards using twohand swords. Since completing the game as nearly every possible blood code/varience multiple times, difficulty of boss ranking change vastly based on builds
The wolf berserker in anor londo is far from check point but you get items to silence your steps and invisibility so you can get there with no figth the items are in the anor londo map if i remember xd
I have to disagree with the having to dodge on instinct with the butterfly on close range. You can tell the tail attacks apart by looking at her shoulders. However I do agree with the spin attack in phase 2. I can't tell fast enough when she does that. Also the delay of the sword slamming attack of the hellfire knight is big enough to roll twice. If you roll twice towards him it will cause him to miss you entirely. That goes for all his slams. However I must admit that these are mostly based on my experience. My experience differs that I mostly played with a partner however I got quite a bit of solo experience on the hellfire knight as well due to my partner sometimes practically being defeated immediately. So the tactic for slams of the hellfire knight definitely applies to fighting him solo as well. I should also add that I had a normal roll when fighting him.
Invading executioner is actually the most controversial boss on this list giventhat you ranked it based on your experience. Unlike some bosses, she has poise. Maximizing your damage, especially with bursty weapon gifts with heavy weapons, will cause her to be repeatedly stunned. It is a extremely hard boss indeed, but not with a greatsword.
If you know the right strategies, I'm sure there are ways you can trivialise the fight. But nevertheless the Invading executioner still gave me a really tough time even with a zweihander
@@htsandw4496 yes, kinda. The stagger of code vein bosses are bound to certain percentages of HP, even the little ones. I should have been clear about that. I wanted to say that in this fight it will help you big time. Make a high mellee dps build (heavy weapons for strenght, for dex there are excelent weapons for this in the area). Stay close to her all the time and beware her dash in second phase. She will eye her victim before she does it and she doesn't do it point blank unless your partner stands behind you and she be Aiming at him. Never stand in a single line with your partner in this fight and you'll be golden.
I had a similar experience with the Ribcage bullshit. Apparently, there is a specific spot to her right where you can't get hit in melee. I did not know that either and have to say, this is probably the worst designed caster boss I've faced in all Souls-likes I've played - and I have played quite a few. If you don't know the cheese, this fight is just beyond annoying and absolutely no fun.
While the assholes that say get gud son and souls isn’t for you are clearly pompously smug children that fail to understand the wonderful nuance that is the human experience, I will say it’s your build that’s dictating the list. If you use a fortified zwei with a heavy blood veil and code, you can tank attacks and block just about anything. The fun in my opinion is either trying different builds and gift combos to test what they do, or stick with what weapon you like but truly optimize every little aspect of it. Nagimukuro alleviated with a quick blood code and light veil is my jam. You can quickly get away and use that sword at a relative distance or up close a bit faster and more forgiving normal combo is it’s key. Successor of the rib cage was one of the easiest bosses for me.
I think this is a weird list that has conflicting opinions all over the place...while showing really poor gameplay behind it showing you dont actually put into practice the advice you use. the fact both the butterfly and the water dancer are this high makes me wonder if you even tried getting normal dodge rolls with that zweihander. Seen nothing but slow rolls which is probly why you got rocked so often. 23 deaths on a first playthrough too the executioner is just sad. Souls games are not for you friend.
Not using multiple builds is not particularly informative, also the juggernaut build has already been proven to complete nullify damage when done to full effect. So great, you used the lazy build.
The pillars in the Blade Bearer and Cannoneer fight are to switch aggro from you to your partner. It's the best example of the game being made for using a companion tbh.

I love the video!
My Successor of the Ribcage was pretty easy since I used the faster weapons and was able to hit pretty regularly between her hits
I agree with your list. The lord of thunder is no joke.
the problem with your difficulties, is faster builds dodge through and attack in the open window. also the bosses assume you have a partner.
This is a valid point. My ranking is very subjective and is entirely based on my zweihander playthrough!
The wolf berserker in anor londo is far from check point but you get items to silence your steps and invisibility so you can get there with no figth the items are in the anor londo map if i remember xd
virgin born has 64k hp and is resistant to almost everything
64k hp btw that beats every boss even hellfire knight
Doesn't every boss has poise? Pretty sure all of them can be staggered
Guided hunter Cannoner boss and the wolf night were the hardest to solo for me so aside from dlc bosses those three are the most challenging
Hellfire Knight is definetly the goat
Im pretty sure monster hunter predates souls games son
So underrated
I had a similar experience with the Ribcage bullshit. Apparently, there is a specific spot to her right where you can't get hit in melee. I did not know that either and have to say, this is probably the worst designed caster boss I've faced in all Souls-likes I've played - and I have played quite a few. If you don't know the cheese, this fight is just beyond annoying and absolutely no fun.
I have to agree with you!
I personally didn't have any difficulty scuessor of the ribcage first time.
even with a partner the first dlc boss was the hardest for me, the rest were alright..
So lord of thunder is harder than orphan of kos
I think this is a weird list that has conflicting opinions all over the place...while showing really poor gameplay behind it showing you dont actually put into practice the advice you use. the fact both the butterfly and the water dancer are this high makes me wonder if you even tried getting normal dodge rolls with that zweihander. Seen nothing but slow rolls which is probly why you got rocked so often. 23 deaths on a first playthrough too the executioner is just sad. Souls games are not for you friend.
phase 2 blade bearer is a joke compared to phase 2 cannoneer
Also that Zweihander is not available until close to the end of the game, making this review VERY misleading.
Your wrong the zweihander can be found in a chest before you cross the Spike bridge to Go over to the mistle before the butterfly boss
Lord of thunder was the easiest dlc boss and hellfire knight was the hardest for me.
Not using multiple builds is not particularly informative, also the juggernaut build has already been proven to complete nullify damage when done to full effect. So great, you used the lazy build.
