The only way this would work is if the "lieutenant" was actually a senior officer but rolling around incognito (it is Berlin 1945) or his promotion to a higher rank had been put through but none of the adornments were available (again Berlin 1945). The latter seems feasible as Ferdinand Schörner was made a fieldmarschall along with at least one other whose name escapes me at the moment.

We also employed many of their top brass and scientists and spent a fortune rebuilding their broken bodies and cities that we ourselves spent fortunes destroying in the first place. How CRAZY is THAT, so crazy you could not possibly make it up.
So if they were fathers and husbands that means they are good people? Sure there were some decent man there, but majority of them were pure evil, brainwashed scumbags, committing some of the worst crimes on a large scale ever.

War is not a good thing that tends to bring out the very worst in mankind, and as such is best avoided in the first place. I hope you will agree. It is also a very good idea to treat prisoners as well as possible whatever they may or may not have done, because this makes them far more likely to surrender.
