Reeves needs to amend this policy. At the moment it affects all and the onus is on the very poorest to apply for it. Instead they restore it, so the poorest get it without applying, and claw it back from the richest pensioners via the tax system. If an individual has an income of 20k+, then will pay tax anyway at 20% on the income over the personal allowance of 12570, so just increase their tax bill by the amount of winter fuel allowance received. So bloody simple and obvious. Reeves must be really thick not to have considered and done this. The 20k figure is arbitrary and could be changed as appropriate.
And Starmer is still ripping of the British taxpayer, approx £8million a day to support illegal migrants. One day's worth of supporting these grifters would pay for the pensioners who are missing out on winter payments. Starmer needs to reconsider where his loyalties lie.
