- One of the glories of growing up watching British television in the 70s and 80s was that seldom did a month pass without the fantastic Deryck Guyler turning up on some show or other playing his washboard.
Here's an example from the 80s. A billion pounds and a sack of gold to anyone who can name the show. Видеоклипы
He’s my great Grandpa
I loved the way he used to say 'oh yes..' at the end of a statement, in almost a complacent way when talking about being a Desert Rat or whatever in Please Sir. He was excellent. What happened to his washboard, Zak?
This wonderful talented man was my Father-in-law. When playing the washboard, he was completely engrossed. It is lovely to see so many endearing comments about him. With regard to the washboard it has been given to his eldest grandson and as for playing at a pub in Thornton Heath, that was very close to where he lived in Norbury before joining our family here in Australia in 1993. I don't think he ever appeared on the Michael Parkinson show and sadly the 'This is Your Life' episode which went to air early 1974 was accidentally destroyed by the BBC and despite many efforts a video copy has never been obtained. Always a hope the show had been recorded by a fan. He always said he would like to live until the turn of the century but sadly he passed away on the 7th October 1999 so didn't quite make it.
Always loved that guy,one of my favorites even as a boy watching Please Sir and Sykes.I miss them all.
The best 58 seconds anyone could have " TOP CLASS " stuff
Nice one Mr Guyler. They don't make them like you anymore.
He was a lovely down to earth old fashioned gentleman. He lived next door to good friends & popped in for coffee & a chat when I was there. Didn't know he was so adept at the washboard.
Truly brilliant.
He was a very very talented actor too.
A fine actor and a natural for comedy
Oh for a cd of Guyler on the washboard. And dvd of same. Thank you so much for uploading this.
Korky the copper from Sykes! brilliant!
I'll always remember him as 'Potter' in 'Please Sir', Constable Korky with Eric Sykes & Hattie & Mr. Lennox-Brown in Men from the Ministry with Richard Murdoch.
I remember seeing this, talented & very funny actor. ⭐️
Longest running actor in the mousetrap play. Never missed a performance apparently.
He was in "A Hard Days Night" with the Beatles. Brilliant guy!.. He was from Liverpool way himself so a great Scouser !
ah yes, ya know, you cant kill an ol desert rat lads,,,,,,,,,,,loved this man, always potter to me
I was telling someone else about him yesterday it prompted me to search for him, brought back good memories.🌟
this guy voiced archie the skeleton for scotch vhs tapes
...Singing a Buddy Holly song.
I can't see Deryck Guyler without imagining him as the janitor in Please Sir.
Must be my age-lol
Awesome, been looking for Derek Guyler on his washboard for ages!!!
Many thanks
Incredible
He was very central in British entertainment, and a very decent type.
Glorious! What a star he was.
My Dad was the spitting image of him in every regard and was often mistaken for him. Used to joke with him and say you could be his stunt double😄
I remember him being very adept at playing the spoons too - might have seen him on a Michael Parkinson show - but I can't find a video. He was a brilliant performer. Loved Men From the Ministry too.
Great stuff! I wonder what happened to his washboard, they’re few and far between to buy like that.
It's the Chris Stuart Cha-Cha-Chat Show. A BBC Wales regional show in the mid 1980s.
Wow that's what music is 😍🤩🤩
He’ll always be Number One.
Now that's entertainment!
"I wasn't a Desert Rat For Nothing You know Sir" one of his great lines in 'Please Sir'.. Brilliant guy.
Such a talented guy
Amazing
Saw him playing live in the Lord Napier pub, Thornton Heath!
awesome I love it
Oh Yes!
great man
Remember a TV ad he did for sweets "You can't buy a box of chocolates for sixpence, but you can buy.....".....but I've forgotten what the ad was!! D'oh!........and the Video tape ad with the skeleton bird in a cage...And I think he was a big jazz fan...He's still on Radio 4 Extra in "Men From The Ministry" with Stinker Murdoch,,,,

I thought the video tape skeleton voice was done by Brian Wilde - aka Mr Barroclough in Porridge?
It was Brian Wilde, in a series of adverts for Scotch Tapes ruclips.net/video/oJzRpgXvM2I/видео.html

Sherrie Miranda’s historically based, coming of age, Adventure novel “Secrets & Lies in El Salvador” is about an American girl in war-torn El Salvador:

Her husband made a video for her novel. He wrote the song too:

Is this the same as Mr. Lennox-Brown?
Van Halen ripped him off on hot for teacher 🥴
What format is this from?
Looks like Betamax to me!
Scotch Video Tape
@@applemask Re-record, not fade away!
Pebble Mill at One?
It takes real talent to make a made-up percussion instrument the star of the show.
