    Legendary Grammy Award-winning singer songwriter Janis Ian performs 15 songs from her 50-year career in this beautifully crafted concert. The program is augmented with archival footage, which includes Leonard Bernstein introducing her at age 15 to sing her controversial hit "Society's Child," and Ian's 1975 performance of her iconic lament "At Seventeen." Produced by Flynn Center's John Killacky.

    Just a woman,a guitar,a piano and 50 years of experience and insight. Wonderful songs,expertly delivered with a talent,poise and a humbleness rarely seen nowadays. I have been thoroughly entertained and strangely,more educated. Jesse is one of my favourite songs ever.

    ジャニスの歌は、窓につたう雨のように私の心にしみてくる。
    あのころに…私の黒髪が伸びてた頃。今は白髪が大半。
    ジャニス、貴女も白髪になりましたね。美しく知的な方。

    I have loved Janis for so, so long. My friends in high-school made fun of me for listening to Janis while they played Led Zeppelin and Aerosmith. Here I am at 64 and still enjoying Janis. She is GENIUS! She is legendary and I love her.

    Amazing. Except for the white hair and a couple pounds (like all of us), this woman looks and sounds the same as she did at 25. She's the same cool, funky, talented poet with a guitar. Lucky us.

      Read Janis Ian's autobio as her first person narrative seems to be describing different people at different stages of her life. The chapter on how she met Laura Nyro at same downtown studio they hung at, and in what condition each's condition was in at the time of that first yootful encounter is one of the great green room stories of all time. Her book is like an illustration of the Kurt Vonnegut narrative device in Slaughterhouse Five, the way the narrator Billy Pilgrim comes "unstuck in time...."
      Health and balance
      keep on doing
      My only ? to JI would be why announce a "last recording" ? Unless as in case of Warren Zevon you've held some fatal diagnosis from your audience.. Wha hoppens if a whopper of a dream or boatload of inspiration passes through yer songwriting antennae while you're still on this mortal coil?

    In the same way that she somehow Carved her way deep into my Heart Muscle and insinuated herself fully into my incomplete juvenile understanding of Love when we were both only Children (we’re the same age) when Somehow she had already learned those Life Lessons that most of us are Still Learning today 50 years later,
    her singing AND ACHINGLY EXPRESSIVE SIMPLE ACCOMPANIMENT 48 years later Still has that same way of Slicing Me Clean, Clear Down to the HeartBone, leaving me in pieces on the ground.

    After having to stay away from the keyboard following a misdiagnosed hand injury, it's so great to see Janis at the keyboard again, even if it's at a much less intense level than before. No offense to the many fine singer/songwriters of the period (and even now) who compose on both the guitar and piano, when it came to the actual playing, there were few who could keep up with Janis when she was in the zone. A first-rate composer, just listen to the piano interlude in the middle of 'Maria' (sounds like Bernstein) or her jazz stylings on 'Hopper Painting'. Great, great stuff!!

    Saw Janis at Savannah Folk Festival circa 2005. You can say lotsa things about her--great songwriter...terrific singer...brave spirit...etc. But I wonder how many appreciate the fact that she's a FRIGGIN' OUTSTANDING GUITARIST. Listen to the intricate fingerwork, and the variety of sounds she makes while she sings. And notably..you cannot hear the style of any other artist in her work. That's all her! Kudos, Janis...love yer work.

    it's funny - her voice while not exceptional is a voice that cuts through the mix in a way that sells - like the bottom isn't necessary alot of times. at times she reminds me of jane olivor in her affected regionalism and way of pronunciation.

    • @bernhardkrickl3567
      @bernhardkrickl3567 6 лет назад +3

      It's amazing how her voice has hardly lost any of its strengths over the decades. Maybe a little bit thinner, a little less warm and round, but overall still great and at full range. The high notes she still reaches are amazing. I'm quite a fan of Joni Mitchell but it is a shame how she has totally ruined her voice with her relentless smoking. Compared to this, Janis Ian's performance here leaves me stunned.

    • @asingreat4630
      @asingreat4630 6 лет назад +2

      Bernhard Krickl I agree with everything you said except to my ear her voice has not aged discernibly over the decades. The only thing I notice is she seems to be slowing the tempo these days, which I think brings a certain maturity to the songs. Long time fan here.
