Your kind words made my day dear Laura. Hope you'll subscribe and catch many of my other episodes. Janis was truly a dear and we've even remained internet friends. Take care, Barry
@@BarryKibrickOfficial LOVELY and lucky lucky you. She is quite charming and YOU are one of very few interviewers who ask a question (read as "jumping off point") and then allows your guest to really really respond. Your interviews are wonderful.
I enjoyed Barry's interviewing style and continue to enjoy Janice's beautiful voice, writing and musicianship. Much respect for both of these talented people.
Wonderful. Janice is a joy. Her heart and mind speak loudly to those of us who occasionally slip into self doubt and helps us to rise again to our greatness
"If you're born an artist, you would be doing this for nothing. It doesn't matter if you succeed or not, you still do it. It's the business of failure. And it's the business of falling down and getting up with no hands to help you. But that's what you live for." Every non-artist should read that quote for purposes of clarity & general sympathy for the artists in their lives 🤘😁
Barry I like your style of interview. Like two friends talking by the fireplace. These exchanges are both stimulating by their contents and soothing by the pace of the exchange
I can’t understand where Janis could see her self as a failure….😢 it’s the industry …anyhoo glad I met her when she was in Australia 🇦🇺 in the 90S have pics with her backstage …still pinch myself meeting her …I used to be in show biz myself … you are pure talent Janis ❤
Janis Ian will be performing in Richmond this month April, 2022. This interview gave me a better understanding of what her art means to her. It is the process, not the end product, that brings one joy.
she really had such an outsized impact that should be celebrated. to be so empathetic to write Society's Child at a young age - a true artist: selfless, loving, and brave.
Just started the odd Netflix / British series “The Fxxxing End of the World”. “At Seventeen” is sung in an early episode. Haven’t thought of that song in many, many years! I remember when the song first came out & it spoke directly to me as it did so many others. And I was able to share about Janis Ian with my younger friend last night. Never heard her speak about herself before. What a delight. And no, this guy interviews just fine. He creates a dialogue; a conversation. And Janis obviously seems to enjoy the repartee. Laughing, even! Delightful.

Hi (Momma). Ms. Ian, I first heard and fell in Love with your work at age 10. It is so good to be able to see this interview. My name is Lori. I hate it when people say to me, "I wouldn't listen to that anymore". Take care, Love you :)

How unfortunate! To have such a brilliant, pulchritudinous and unimaginably talented artist to interview and to spend close to half of the interview talking, reading and placing the center of discussion on yourself instead of allowing the interviewee (THE JANIS IAN) to speak and express her thoughts; the interviewer could have achieved that by asking poignant, targeted and, above all, far less verbose questions. Yes, in my opinion the interviewer needs to think about taking up another line of work, perhaps one involving numerous hours of public speaking. Other than that, in the little time she was given, Ms. Ian allowed us to look through a window leading our sight and ears to her very heart and mind. I wish she was asked much better, more material questions by someone who did not have the need to promote himself and his wife and child more than his interviewee. Ms. Ian, yes, in order to be able to write the sort of lyrics you did at such a youthful age, you were indeed blessed with incredible talent. All the best to you and your partner.
@SmellyCat he did a good job of eloquently expressing his admiration .. but it is not really the job of an interviewer to put his tongue as far as he can up the ass of his guest - but to give her every opportunity to speak for herself.. sometime by asking much more challenging questions than are asked here..
So glad you enjoyed dear Marianne. Janis is truly a wonderful person and my conversation with her took place about 10 years ago. Hope you will subscribe and check out my most recent episodes.
What a paradoxical woman she is politically. Touring Israel without a second thought for the treatment of the Palestinians, playing South Africa during apartheid, and being pro death penalty? And this is the same woman who was stalked by the FBI and taught at Camp Webatuck by Pete Seeger... unbelievable... That said, she remains my favourite recording artist. But, cognitive dissonance of the highest water... thank goodness her own theory on redemption has entered her beliefs on the death penalty.. personally I think life in prison is a greater punishment...
"Touring Israel without a second thought for the treatment of the Palestinians" come on .. we don't know what's inside her head.. "playing South Africa during apartheid" given the nature of her debut material - that should be applauded as rather courageous .. "being pro death penalty?" no .. not any more - she very eloquently speaks against it here.. "personally I think life in prison is a greater punishment..." so you are missing the point that she is making.. punishment is the fetish of those driven by impotent rage .. janis ian is wise enough to be concerned with redemption.. your words remind me of "Honey D’Ya Think?"
You’re misunderstand Janis… 1) She changed her mind about the death penalty, her opinion evolved… 2)When she went to South Africa, she felt that some boycotts such as these were ineffective, and she played strictly for integrated audiences, where she could connect with the people of South Africa… and in regard to Israel, she has said, and STILL says that the situation is quite complicated… She’s not someone who is a rigid, simplistic thinker…
Really really appreciate this interviewer's enthusiasm. Great interview!
Such kind words make my day. Thank you!
I am in awe of her wisdom and sense of humor.

When our parents go, we move in to the batter’s box. 🤭
Spent a few minutes wondering if the show was named this way because they were interviewing Janis Ian. Funny no one is talking about the pun here!
she's humble too but the smartest cookies usually are.
Yes! I think that it comes so easily to her that she knows she is gifted. This old, straight lady just loves her.☺️
Still beautiful and poignant sung by an older Janis ❤❤❤

A lot of these guys do that, like Charlie Rose and Bob Costas.
I adore you.
I'm sure you're referring to Janis dear Andrea but glad you got to see my conversation with her.
@@BarryKibrickOfficial Of course Janis, but you also for doing the interview with such a natural presence. I love that, too. That's in you.
Wonderful interview.. does anyone know when this occurred?

Hi Barry I'm Dan Have you ever interviewed Engelbert Humperdinck also I love to sing myself
No, never had the opportunity. Barry
@@BarryKibrickOfficial that's too bad. I will say this Janis Ian really was Beautiful back in the 70s and still looks good at 70 today.
@@BarryKibrickOfficial Hi Barry I also sing myself and I sing alot of Engelbert s songs. Infact he Inspired me to Sing.
Wonderful interview. When did the interview happen?
It was in 2008
she is too smart, wise, together but damm she should go for pressideent
I really like her the other side of the sun
Janice is truly amazing!
Love Janis Fink
Fink?
She has perfect pitch,😮
Ms Ian talks about American Democracy. That it has to work. How sad that the hope seems to have failed. I wonder what Ms Ian would say now.
it is sad , w/o trying ...he is a fool ,and she is humble and gracious
Janis and I are still dear friends. At least she thought differently.
this barry guy makes the silly mistake of talking much more than his guest - thus robbing her of the opportunity to open up and talk for herself..
Revelation ?? You should look in that book. you're 67 now.
