    Rotec Aerosport manufactures radial engines for experimental airplanes. These engines can be used to restore vintage aircraft and you can have them in more modern airframes as well like the Kitfox.
    Currently, Rotec is available in 2 different options, an R3600 150 HP engine and an R2800 110 HP engine.
    Price for the R3600 is between $20,000 - $23,000
    Price for the R2800 is between $17,000 - $19,000
    You can visit www.rotecaerosport.com/radial... to find out more.

    Your should check many forums, these engines are garbage, many problems and poor customer service even one case where a brand new engine that crapped out and when it was fixed, was shipped back with old parts.

    I'll never touch another rotex radial. Customer services sucks and you must pay two way freight costs to and from Australia, even for warrenty work. My friend never got more than 150 hrs. All three engines certified as being new, but each with used parts. I'm now a big fan of Verner radials out of the EU. Much better support and fantastic preformance with no hickups. Just remember that your life depends upon this critical component.

      Geoff Moore , Hi Geoff. Let me just say I have had experience first hand with this brand of engine , as any pilot will tell you that an inflight engine failure is an unwanted experience that does not always end well, and I encountered not one but two total engine outs during flight, I was lucky to execute two forced landings without aircraft damage or personal injury,

    • @geoffmooregm
      @geoffmooregm 5 лет назад

      @@goldfieldsbushpilots9917 Are these mechanical, ignition or fuel delivery problems? I always thought the FAA and other aircraft authorities has strict redundancy and safety rules on engine building?

    • @outsideraircraft5215

      @@geoffmooregm ..well, mechanical, from a design point of view. I could list all the faults but the link in the comment ruclips.net/video/LlPtMVijIzs/видео.html I posted earlier today says it very well. There's also a problematic and overly obtuse oil delivery system compared with historical radials aka Pratts, Wrights and so on. Both the Verner and Warner have a simpler, more unified oil delivery, which works well less resultant comparable failures to this engine.

    • @goldfieldsbushpilots9917
      @goldfieldsbushpilots9917 5 лет назад

      Geoff Moore hi Geoff. Both engine failures that I encountered mid flight resulted from mechanical failure, badly manufactured, lacking quality controlled parts. Attempts to deal with the manufacture was impossible, arrogance beyond belief almost leading to outright stupidity.
      Geoff I have a passion of life and flying and would not risk either , as such both my aircraft run certified reliable aviation motors,
      My removed radial has been turned into a coffee table 😂 and is always a talking point with other pilots.

    • @outsideraircraft5215
      @outsideraircraft5215 5 лет назад

      rix' Yes, but not in Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane obviously. This is more 'the back country' i.e. just like our outback like Mt. Isa (areas around), Norseman in W.A., the equivalent wilds of the back country people like Trent and Mike Patey and the rest of flying cowboys are flying around in. Trent is in Nevada, not too unlike the Aust. desert/scubby interior and Mike is in Utah flying around rocky places resembling what's around Alice Springs and so on. Even Trent has to fly quite a few miles from where he lives in Reno to be able to horse around like at the Stol drag in the middle of nowhwere www.stoldrag.com/events/hsf2018 .. Having said that, you don't always have to go hundreds of miles into the desert to escape ceiling heights or fool around low. I used to fly at Benalla (Vic.) with a bunch of crazy parachutists and glider pilots. We would buzz farmers and fly between trees, though canyons and hills, land virtually anywhere, except private property. Being in QLD, I would suggest head off to places like Cairns or Townsville, go west of those places. Anywhere where's there's no people or towns : ) ..having said all this, I wouldn't advertise it to CASA. Best is join some kind of flying club with like-minded members and get the low down on the low down.

    I LOVE the look of the Rotec radials, they completely nailed 100% the look of the P&W wasps and such. That said...they need to spin real fast to get any power out of them and at speed (TO/ cruise) they sound NOTHING like a radial - more in line with a rotax 912. As far as the reliability I have nothing to add but it seems like they're getting lots of hate from owners.
    The Verner Scarlet series (3,5,7,9 cylinders) on the other hand spin slowly, like the original radials, and sound BADASS. Look up their vids on YT. They don't quite look as nice as the rotec but the sound more than makes up for it. I think their engine uses Honda components.

    More btw. I understand Paul has been selling these for many years now. But here's a theory as to why he's been able to get away with this for over a decade; The planes they're being put into are historical/rebuilt/re-imagined. Both traditionally and contemporaneously they don't fly that many hours. Paul admitted so much to one purchaser I know of who's engine failed and Paul, self-admittedly, said he has no feedback on such use when it comes to it when it comes to actual metrics. Therefore, if a fault -ridden designed engine goes for a couple of flys it might 'last'. Take this same engine and put it to a few dozen hours, a few hundred or a few thousand hours and will appear a different story. I actually feel sorry for Paul, as an ex-pat Aussie myself.

There are several post from people that owned (yes owned as in Don't anymore) that had them fail in flight with low hours. On every one of them they found damaged or miss fitted parts. Rocker arms hitting rocker covers. Bolts that are to long so they hit internal parts. AND all had several problems with customer service from Rotec. Even being told that if they are "combative" or complain to much then Rotec will just drop them. As in no more support on an expensive engine that doesn't work. This ass hat owner. @@cleophusA It's six months winter in Norway so it's only been 187 hours so far.
      I made the following adjustments:
      • Replaced all oil hoses from AN6 to AN8 except crankcase ventilation hose which are AN10. This reduces the possibility of hydraulic oil cavitation and that it builds up a lot of oil in the crankcase.
      • Larger oil tank with air separation
      • I never use 100LL since it clogs the oil channels, valve stem and the tops of the pistons.
      • I use Bing carburetor since I don't know if TIB likes ethanol. Car gas contains up to 10% ethanol in Norway.
      • The carburetor gets cold intake air. This helps to cool the crankcase.
      • Return hose on gasoline supply. This reduces the possibility of vapor lock

Have you experienced any of the problems that so many others are talking about, such as premature bearing wear and unusual parts breakage? I was very interested in this engine until I saw so much negative feedback about reliability and especially customer service. I mean, if you have to have warranty work done, it means paying freight both ways from America to Australia! That can't be cheap, and if you have to deal with a hostile customer support/warranty system, that makes a warranty claim even more of a nightmare. What intrigues me most about this engine is the extensive use of automotive parts, making maintenance much more user friendly and cost efficient, but I sure don't want to sacrifice reliability for ease of maintenance.

    • @oeaaneb
      @oeaaneb 5 лет назад

      @@cleophusA My thought is that you must use a round dry sump tank to avoid that foaming oil will follow along into the engine again. If you also avoid the oil cavitating by using AN8 hoses I mean the bearings should last a long time.
      I'm not worried about using pistons and valves from automotive as long as it's from well-known suppliers.
      Support / warranty is always very difficult as there are two sides. Is there a user related error or is it manufacturer's fault. There had of course been a lot easier if Rotec had supplier in the US and Europe.

    Can that engine be fitted to a 1936 MONOCOUPE? No? Ok. Your garbage. I'll go find a Verner engine!

    I think it's too cheap. Very sad as it looks a good concept.

      @@TheNadjalo I hate to agree but he is right. I love Radial engines but these are shit for sure. It takes about 2 min of research to know you don't want to spend any money on this one.

    They are so cheap that people buy them as a starter to build their own engines. lol And only use the most basic parts. lol Then it costs double but still a "bargain".

    You guys should be ashamed of this engine. Way to many failures for it to be reliable in a aircraft. They have plastic timing gears. People do research before buying. I have seen many hoarer stories from the drive gears exploding to being poorly assembled to push rods breaking and far more. Its to bad because they look good and sound great when running. You need to go back to the drawing board. perhaps copy a old Pratt & Whitney Wasp R-1340 SC1 exact no plastic or short cuts.
