Thanks for the comment. One of the things I'm doing is updating some of my older tutorials and slowing them down, going over more current info, etc. I really appreciate you watching.
Thank you Jeff! Your tutorials have been really helpful to me. Short, and straight to the point. No waste of time, and just quality teaching 10/10. Keep it up. Love your channel!
I've skipped through 3 videos but your's is the only one that EXPLAINS so that I understand why we get the effect not just if you move like this you get this effect. Thank you.
If I'd waited until the end of the video I would have saved myself a lot of headaches, but I finally figured it out on my own that the repeater layer needs to be outside of the group and beneath it for it to work effectively.
How is this done using a shape that isn't uniform, like a rectangle? attempting to animate rotation or position of the group causes seemingly erratic movement. e.g. the rectangle shape rotates from odd anchor points, and the size of the repeated circle expands.
Thanks you Jeff! wonderful tutorial. I am facing one problem. My shapes are not getting align in circle changing the rotation value. all the copies are rotating at its own place. Please help. I think it's something to do with anchor point. If I am right!
In the first example I don't see the reason for using the repeater on the shape, the colored circle. The thing that's being repeated is the stars. What am I missing?
@@7MinuteAETutorials Yes, my mistake. You clearly said to move the repeater so it only affected the stars. So, the groups are essentially a way to separate the stars from the other shape.
Which animation are you working on? Make sure you're doing all the steps. With shape layers, where you place animation can make a huge difference. Also, make sure you're stacking your layers the way I am in the tutorial.
@@7MinuteAETutorials ill make squares en rotated is 45 degrades and i animated the stroke but when i gonna repeat them the al will show up from the middle instead of there own ancher point
@@lootjuhlootjuh2799 When using a repeater, the only anchor point is for the shape will be on that first shape. The others are replicas of the first one. Without seeing what you're doing, it's difficult to know what you mean. Can you send me a screenshot?
Steve T you shouldn’t have to change the anchor point on this. Make sure you’re adjusting the rotation of the repeater transform properties and not the group or layer.
Steve T from the settings I can see it looks right. I’m not sure what the polystar, group, and layer settings looks like. Something must be off somewhere in one of those settings. There are 4 steps. Try this: 1. Make the shape and make sure it’s centered, 2. Add repeater and set repeater position to 0, 0. 3. Move the star up using the Group’s position or the polystar position, 4. Add copies and divide 360 by the number of copies on the repeater rotation. If that doesn’t work, open up all the properties and send me a screenshot
here's all my steps, I cannot figure out what I'm doing wrong but it must be something insanely simple that I'm missing. ruclips.net/video/TSw1FU6Pgaw/видео.html
@@geeleeggan Okay, I see where you went wrong. At 2:08 when you move the star up, don't grab it and drag it. Use the Position setting inside the polystar OR inside the group that holds the polystar. This technique is tricky, but the star has to be moved using the shape or group Position. Try that and let me know if it works.
I followed all of these first steps and my star has a huge red stroke around it and when I rotate in the repeater it just rotates all 16 stars on top of each other and doesn't fan them out in a circle.
This video is incredibly clear, and direct - but damn, does it go fast for a tutorial. I use After Effects professionally, and am not unfamiliar with shape layers, and still have to continually pause and catch up. The brevity of the video is great, but counteracted by the time I waste having to rewind.
Yeah this is one of my older videos where I was more focused on keeping my tutorials within seven minutes. I've learned over the years how to balance time with mental digestion of the material. I have more recent repeater tutorials that may serve you better. I do appreciate the time you took to comment and I agree with you on this one - it's just too damn fast. I've remade several of these older videos for that reason. Let me know if you'd like a direct link to an updated one. Thanks again,

Make sure that the rotation you are affecting is the Repeater Rotation. If you go back and check out that section, it should help.
