I see people complaining about the speed of the tut, but Frankly I prefer the swiftness because it makes it a thousand times easier and come back to if I miss a step, mostly because you explain things pretty well. I watch a lot of tut's where it takes half the video to start a lesson and the audio is muffled and the presenter takes too long and lacks enthusiasm, so just gotta say I loved this one!
The last one I watched people commented "Jeeez! Get to the point". Dude, it was perfect. If people can't be arsed to pause or rewind it they should be buying plugins. Good video. :)
I think the main issue people are having is that I'm not explaining the fundamentals. Like how to create text, move shapes, zoom into the image, basic keyboard shortcuts, etc. I agree, and personally think the tutorial is at a fine pace, but for people that are just learning After Effects, this is definitely advanced.
You're a genius, thankyou! Also guys I found this out accidentally, but to reverse it so the "invisibox" goes over your text you can animate the lines width scale to gradually go down to 0%. Try it out ;) Thankyou again Caleb.
This is largely just you showing off your skills, give us more step by step instead of skimming over what you consider unnecessary details. Its more about figuring how to do each step than the overall effect for me at least. Appreciate your content keep it up.
Yo this helped so much and I always appreciate the content and when i found the channel and got the energy from you from the previous video, you've been nothing but real and can vouch for the amazing content and how down to earth you are with everything! All the most love, respect, and appreciation
Awesome! I've been doing the same technique but key framing the mask position by itself. I never thought to parent to the shape I was using to reveal the text. Thanks for the time saver!
sliding text as in just text sliding onto the page with the slight motion blur and all that goodness? you'd just keyframe the text to go from offscreen to onscreen on the position values - enable motion blur and all is good. motion blur should work with text but if not right click the text layer, turn into shape, rinse and repeat. does this help at all? or I could make a tutorial for you if you'd like? whatever works for you dude. :)
Thank you for the tutorial. After a few second later I started watching I remembered that we can use mask! Awesome, and it worked just fine, try it out with mask if you have no solid background.
Thanks for actually explaining the context of the blue box! I don't think you were going too fast - there's a pause button for a reason ;) Main thing is we can see what you're clicking on. Great tut!
make sure you select the alpha mat invert to your shape, like mine is layer 6 for the moving layer and layer 5 for for the line, when you drop your layer underneath layer 5, when you hit alpha mat you want to select not layer 6 alpha mat but layer 6 alpha mat inverted, that hides your text.
Thanks, Caleb. Your tutorial is how I learned to do the two title sequences in my recent short film. I really appreciate you sharing this incredibly helpful information.
Gee, did I spend good amount of time trying to replicate this effect only with masks in After Effects.. And of course it had to be something simple. Thank you for sharing Caleb!

Meanwhile I'm playing it at 1.5x ;-P

So far the only tutorial I've seen that takes it slow and doesn't require prior experience to soft design.
for the people complaining about the speed. theres a speed option in youtube.
or just skip a bit back if you missed it.
great tutorial!
I know many are saying this is fast, but compared to many tutorials this isnt too bad at all. Great video!
