Try These Foods at Your Juneteenth Celebration

- Juneteenth is the newest federal holiday to join the calendar since Martin Luther King Day was first acknowledged in 1983, and like every American holiday, food is involved! Native Texan, Joi Chevalier, CEO of Cook’s Nook, has recognized Juneteenth her entire life. She explains the foods typically eaten during Juneteenth have roots in the Black American diaspora, and are often eaten picnic-style. Foods and even drinks have symbolic meaning on Juneteenth. #InsideEdition
This comment section is sad, but what is more unfortunate is how inside edition chooses to acknowledge Juneteenth, I feel like this could've been more than fried chicken and collard greens .
I agree
It's apart of black history it just show apart of us that is important food and why it's important blacks were under fed as slaves they created these foods to survive and to Celebrate in the slave quarters so please don't try take that away from us
😐
Exactly

They’re all such great foods. I would never associate them with a holiday, but rather some great comfort food people eat everyday.

Of course!
lol true

At least soul food holds traditional significance, McDonald's does not (well, kinda in Japan but I digress).
This is a reductive description of American Black food traditions. The reporter was either undereducated culturally, detached, pretending to identify more with culture outside of Black American descendants of slaves culture, or condescending.
My parents own a soul food restaurant amongst other things😂😂 If I let myself I would eat soul food for breakfast
Eating mac and cheese along with fried chicken for breakfast is the most American thing ever
Note I am indian not American
I love it. Folks in the south of all colors eat soul food at least once a week. I was the chef for university of the Ozarks and even folks paying for high end catering here choose fried chicken, greens, okra, mac, and cornbread .. I understand and love and respect the symbolism and tradition of soul food to the afam community..but all people know fried chicken is the tastiest dish in the world.. followed by ribs..
Soul food breakfast sounds amazing...your parents could make a lot of $$$ with that!
If you don’t mind be asking where is that soul food restaurant located ?
@@Naiibeezy I agree . Where is the soul food place.
They forgot the grape soda.
and a Newport cigarette 🚬
You can find a lot of restaurants now that do veg versions of these recipes. Soul Veg in Atlanta is one example.
NEWs alert black people did not invent fried chicken , all we did is add spices..
People know but fired chicken is kinda a southern food
actually yes they kindaaa did? The origin of fried chicken in the southern states of America has been traced to precedents in Scottish and West African cuisine. African Americans began cooking fried chicken based on the recipes provided by Scottish slaveholders. In time, African American cooks embraced it as part of their own culinary tradition.

Tribes enslaved one another all colors, same colors. SO GIVE ME A BREAK..
Twitter would collapse if they knew that.
all races (usually dependant on social class) have been enslaved at some point. but even after years of black people being enslaved, they had to deal with a long history of oppression that doesn’t exist today. it is not comparable to African tribes enslaving their own members and I don’t know where you got that information from
Some black meals isn’t all chicken and greens....jerk chicken and rice and peas
