I saw this as a first date when it came out. My date, he screamed like a little girl throughout the movie. Then he got mad at me for picking a scary movie. I remember us all screaming at the head and at the end
Is it just me or more of the reactors first time watching these movies are talking over the movie the majority of the time totally missing all the important points leading up to what's going on in the middle of the movie. Watching video reactions anymore is in find any more of these people just keep talking over the damn movie. that's not reacting wrecking is watching a movie and freaking out when you're scared that's one reaction.
They said they were talking about nonsense, when he was describing what happened to the Uss Indianapolis after they delivered the Hiroshima bomb and got sunk by Japanese torpedoes and half of the crew in the water were eaten by sharks, but they yapped through that whole story that basically explains Quints personality.
Actually the story Quint told about the shark attack on those on the USS Indianopolis is history, so he/they weren't just wasting time talking about nothing while below deck. That whole scene was a bonding moment. Surprising that you didn't recognize that as men do it when up against it, when they have to stave off fear or when they need to work together in dire situations.
Quint and the true story of the USS Indianapolis was one of the best scenes of the movie. It describes how Quint became the way he is about shark's and it's one of the most dramatic scenes in the move that draws you in.
You both missed what Quint was saying when he was talking about sharks with Hooper. Quint was on the USS Indianapolis when it was torpedoed by the Imperial Japanese Navy during WWII. The ship sank within 15mins, maybe in less time. However, several of the soldiers that were left floating in the open ocean. They were eaten by sharks. That actually happened. But it is a good back story in order to understand Quint.
I was 12 years old in 1975 when this movie came out. I had just finished reading the book and saw this in the theaters. Not once, in all my life, have I ever gone to the beach without thinking of this movie.
And I was 14 and saw it at the Jersey shore after reading the paperback and then went crabbing and swimming in the bay the day after. That will always be a fond memory. I was so afraid of seeing Chrissy Watkin's corpse as described in the book that I let my guard down and got the bejesus scared out of me when Ben Gardner's head popped out. The whole theatre did.
Same here!!!!!! I go swimming here but no way would I in Australia. I had to give up long distance bay swimming as a kid though because this film terrified me!
I too was 12 when this movie came out. I lived in Illinois very far from any ocean, but this movie was on everybody mind, even when swimming in the swimming pool.
5:23 - Hi guys.. That Chevy truck was sold after filming and can STILL be seen out on Martha's Vineyard from time to time.. There's also a replica that shows up at car shows here on Long Island once in awhile..
The actor who played Quint had a drinking problem and his co stars said he was drunk in all his scenes. The lady who played Alex's mom said that years later she went into a restaurant and noticed they had a lot of Jaws memorabilia so she mentioned to one of the employees that she was in the movie and who she played, the employee went to get the owner and it turned out to be the guy who played Alex. The downside of the movie is that it created an hysteria about sharks and people just started going out and killing then for no reason and the worlds shark population took a big hit, Spielberg even said that was his biggest regret about the movie.
Ben Gardner's head and upper torso popping out of the hole in the boat was put in at the last minute. It was filmed in Verna Field's swimming pool. Steven Spielberg wanted a jump scare and he made one that will never be forgotten.
I was stationed at Ft. Devens, Massachusetts the summer this came out. Bunch of folks wanted to go to Martha's Vineyard one weekend after seeing this. I was like nope, not me. And I grew up on the ocean. No way I was going into that water. Classic movie line there "We're gonna need a bigger boat"
"You're gonna need a bigger boat." Fun Fact: Several decades after the film's release, Lee Fierro, who played Mrs. Kintner, walked into a seafood restaurant and noticed "Alex Kintner Sandwich" on the menu. She commented that she had played his mother so many years ago; the owner of the restaurant ran out to meet her, and he was none other than Jeffrey Voorhees, who had played her son. They had not seen each other since the original movie shoot. I'm told Jeff stills own the restaurant at Martha's Vineyard and he loves talking to fans. Lost Attraction Fact: Quint's (Robert Shaw) boathouse set was built in Martha's Vineyard on an abandoned lot. The city council made the production crew sign an agreement to demolish it after filming and replace everything exactly as it had been, right down to the litter. Writing Ensemble Fact: Quint's tale of the USS Indianapolis was conceived by playwright Howard Sackler, lengthened by screenwriter John Milius and rewritten by Robert Shaw following a disagreement between screenwriters Peter Benchley and Carl Gottlieb. Shaw presented his text, and Benchley and Gottlieb agreed that this was exactly what was needed. It's wildly considered the best scene of the movie.
I was born & raised in the town that was the inspiration for this movie.. summer of 1916, Beach Haven, NJ.. I wasn’t there, I’m not THAT old, but it was a hell of a place to grow up.. salt & sand is in my blood
Wow. I am shocked at the insensitivity to the women who's son was eaten. Brody represents the face of law on the island. Not the old chairman. So Brody is in fact the right face to slap. He even graciously accepts the slap.
Fun fact-most shark attacks happen in 3ft of water or less and within 10 ft of shore. So much for safe wading. When I was stationed at Homestead AFB FL we would take a chopper (helicopter) and fly along the beach. We’d see sharks swimming among swimmers and the people wouldn’t know they were there or just how close the sharks were to them. That was back in 1981, today people flying drone’s are recording the same thing. Cheers
The story written for the "Jaws" novel was loosely based on a shark that was killing people in fresh water in a river in New Jersey in 1916, which was really strange since everyone thought that sharks could only survive in salt water. The community there offered a reward for capturing and killing the shark, so a professional fisherman & his son from Harlem, New York took their little fishing boat down the Atlantic coast, went up the river and killed it. Not as dramatic as this story is.
The boat you can put your car on is a ferry.. quite common, especially in the ‘area’ the movie is set in.. Cape Cod - Martha’s Vineyard type area.. amity island is not an actual place.. many of the real islands are only accessible by boat, hence the need to bring your car on the boat..
41:12 - He wanted to avoid the beach goers panicking and trampling each other to get out of the water. That’ll get someone killed just as easy as that shark would’ve.
She didn't willingly swim out into the deep, the shark attacked her in the shallows and dragged her into the deep, Sharks have been known to attack in only 3 ft (36 inches) of water. White you were laughing and not paying attention, Quint was relating a true story of tragic naval history regarding the U.S.S. Indianapolis, the ship that delivered the bomb that was dropped on Hiroshima to the island of Tinian. May God bless the men of the U.S.S. Indianapolis and may they never be forgotten...
As a kid from the UK I never understood the meaning to that reference, but still found the scene thrilling. When I got older and learned up on it, the power of that scene went up x10 fold.
Growing up we would camp out at the beach for 6 wks every summer. Never thought about sharks. Was too busy digging fir sand crabs to sell to the fishermen to get our summer money for popsicles. ❤ They used to have ski races from Ling Beach, Ca to Santa Catalina Island (26 miles) and my mom's friend would do it every yr. I asked why she didn't fall and she said nit only did she not swim but if there was a shark around she didn't want to be dinner. 😂
My all time favorite movie! Scared the crap out of me as a kid! Fun fact: my son is now in college studying to be a marine biologist with a concentration in sharks 🦈
“Dolphins are just as bad as sharks”? Seriously dude?? I’ve swam with Dolphins several times; they are the gentlest of creatures and they lovre playing with humans!
Shock makes people not able to move - the kid does not try to swim away when the shark ate the man from the row boat because he was in shock and the lady holding the baby did not move and just stood there screaming because she was in shock and in a panic - it affects different people in different ways. Your way is best - just don't go in the dam water!!! I saw this movie when it first came out and I am from a Beach Town and I never went back in the water again. Never.
Tiger sharks are basically the trash collectors of the ocean. They've found all kinds of shit in tiger sharks. Suit of armor, barrel of nails, car parts etc
I once snorkeled in a warm saltwater bay with cold freshwater springs, through ancient ruins in ten or twelve feet of clear blue water, with all kinds of fish and giant turtles -- but around stingrays as well, and the occasional three ot four foot shark. The turtles were friendly, but the stingrays and sharks scared the ever-loving bejeezus out of me! It was so idyllic and serene and stunningly beautiful, I'm really glad I didn't miss it, though. And, y'know, nothing happened, so in my memory it's like there was no risk.
this town depends on tourists for its survival summer is when this small town makes money to survive the winter! if they closed the beaches it would be a disaster for the local economy, the town would become a ghost town without any revenue!! that's why everyone opposed the closing of the beaches on JULY 4th biggest festival in usa the people investing in this town would move on!!
Even now, if I'm in the ocean and I reach the part where my feet can't touch the floor and the water's temperature cools all I hear is the theme in my head. Time to head back, immediately.
Was tough watching this reaction, as there was so much talking/complaining during the movie. Never seen people talk over the story of the Indianapolis that Quint tells, which is one of the best scenes in the movie. Thanks anyways for the reaction. Take care
Yeah i agree...I was 15 when this movie came out. I too at 15 was intrigued by such a story but i listen when people are talking that's how you learn.. can't believe anyone would talk over that. But maybe they will watch it again.😳🤦✌
I grew up in Huntington Beach California and seen this movie in the 70s, when I was a little girl. I hung out with surfers all my life. My Daddy took me out snorkeling in the ocean all the time but, I didn't go in. I ain't been in the water all these years because of Jaws. Hell no, I'm a lake girl now 😂
Robert Shaw "Quint" was a great english actor, his other famous role was a villain in an early bond movie, from russia with love. Sadly he died 3 years after this movie, in 1978, from a heart attack, he was only 51.
@@chopperchopper1418 I read a book that had an account of the Indianapolis tragedy that my late Dad.had in his WW11 book collection many years ago ( probably the early '70's) that was extraordinarily descriptive, first-hand interviews & accounts. Wish I could remember name of the book..
I go swimming in a lake in the middle of the night, by myself and swim out far. To float: Fill lungs with air, push hips towards the sky, move hand in a small circle below you, you'll float.
1:51 the cup says "Falstaff" on it, which was (is?) a beer brand. If you rented or bought a Keg back then, they would give you complimentary cups with the beer name and logo on them, so everyone would know what brand you were drinking.
Nah, you don't need to watch any more of the "Jaws" movies. This first one is a notable film. It was the first official summer blockbuster movie, first big hit by Spielberg, and also the first huge musical score by John Williams (who went on to compose some of the most well-loved film scores). The villain, BTW, was not the shark. It was the mayor, and secondarily, Quinn had a bit of a mania about getting the shark that ended up putting him and his crew in needless danger.
John Williams had already done music for the series Lost in Space and the blockbuster movies The Poseidon Adventure and The Towering Inferno plus Sugarland Express and Earthquake.
1. Goof: Chrissie's body parts are too far up the beach to have been washed up there without a storm. 2. Boy Scouts don't need to do the mile swim to get their Merit badge. It's an accomplishment all its own. 3. Lee Fierro/Mrs. Kentner actually slapped Roy Scheider. It took 17 takes. Once was so hard it knocked his glasses off. 4. The jump scare at Ben Gardner's boat was put in on purpose by Spielberg because they were having problems with the shark "Bruce" and his appearance was delayed, and the movie needed something earlier. Works every time.🤣🤣 5. IRL Dreyfuss and Shaw didn't get along, so Spielberg used the animosity to fuel their feud onscreen. 6. The boy that said, "He made me do it' is now the Police Chief of the town where this movie was filmed. 7. Hooper was right. The fish that hit the line was a game fish. 8. "You're gonna need a bigger boat" is one of the greatest adlibs in history. It was the first time Roy actually saw Bruce. It was an ongoing trope within the filming due to budgetary problems. 9. Goof: It's necessary for the movie but, an animal that large couldn't hit the side of the boat as rapidly as it did UNDER WATER. 10. I suspect Quint's story about the Indianapolis gave him PTSD flashbacks and contributed to his behavior after he told the story. 11. I was in the Navy, and we were instructed to go for the eyes when confronting a shark. 12. Aside from the pool used in the Ben Gardner boat scenes, all of the shipboard scenes were filmed entirely at sea, 13. In the book not only does Hooper die but he was also having an affair with Mrs. Brody. 14. JAWS II is the only other one worth watching. It revolves around the Brody kids and their friends. Including one of the mayors' kids. 15 The third one was so bad that Scheider read the script and said NO.
Golly! I had so much fun watching this reaction to one of my favorite movies! I'm from Bermuda where Jaws author Peter Bench lived while he wrote the book that this movie was based on! This was my first time watching u guys and I will be subscribe to you channel! Oh n love your accents!
Jaws is a fictional story. The USS Indianopolis is not a fictional story. Sharks ate hundreds of men after the ship was torpedoed after they delivered the Hiroshima bomb in prepareation for the bombing of Hiroshima. It's' one of the most powerful stories ever to be in a movie.
Oh my gosh, that movie scared me. I was 12 and saw it at the Seattle theatre downtown. I jumped so high and spilled my Jr. Mints all over. The smashed candy on my but looked like I messed myself. Hahaaa. Never swam the beach again.
Something I never noticed until watching y’all’s reaction: during the town meeting if you look out the window you can clearly see that it’s wintertime because the trees have no leaves. Yet this scene was meant to be the week of July 4th. Kinda crazy how they film stuff at different times and then piece it all together in the editing room.
1:00:38 "A shark is a damn shark, they do the same thing." Not true. The biggest shark, the whale shark, eats only plankton. Gentle giant to the ocean, plenty of videos on line of scuba divers swimming with em peaceful as can be. No bad for something as big as a bus if my memory serves me correct. Nurse sharks are more bottom feeders I think, but they don't harm nobody
Its the 4th of July and people are wearing Fall Clothing like its cold outside LOL. Some on the beach are in bikinis and the people going fishing for the shark are in warm clothes.... Adogg you talk over very important parts of the movie and Antionette has to then explain it to you cuz you missed it. She pays close attention. Also its not nice to watch someone eating & talking with food in their mouth - just saying but other than that I do enjoy watching your reviews. Adogg you do a good job guessing where the movie is going and what people are going to say or do before they do or say it. Your pretty sharp.
Welcome to the club... Yall got to watch one of the greatest movies ever filmed in modern times. Office Space is basically a documentary too :-b Cheers You Two
Enjoyed you two; a beautiful down to earth-no dramatics-couple, lol The Thing 1982, Alien & Aliens if you haven’t seen them would be awesome but whatever your next "tense" movie situation is make sure Lady Antionette has a nicotine patch on stand by the next time she needs TWO CIGARETTES IN HER MOUTH to cope!😜
Just a FYI... As recently as July 21, 2023 a 60-year-old man at a beach resort in South Carolina was attacked by a shark while he was in waters between 2 and 3 feet deep, according to Live Science. Some rather large (5-10 feet) sharks HUNT in less than five feet of water because that is where small fish move when threatened. Most shark attacks happen in shallow waters, like waist deep, where sharks are more likely to find food. Sharks also enjoy the murky-ness of shallow waters.
I use to ride the faery from Milwaukie to Muskegon mich, for work when i was younger .good money in Illinois. I hear they are still running the barge not really sure though.nice reactions with your daughter Adogg.
I actually walked by a man made ocean pool and in it was 14 foot black tiger shark 😅 this was in the Caribbean waters 💯😁 the beach life guards would never let swimmers float out like that, and there a sections for swimmers, surfers and boogie boarders

Don't apologize, Antoinette for screaming at the floating head. Every person in the theater screamed.
My father nearly jumped out his seat in the theater when that happened.
Sometimes I still close my eyes at that part.
I saw this as a first date when it came out. My date, he screamed like a little girl throughout the movie. Then he got mad at me for picking a scary movie. I remember us all screaming at the head and at the end
They also added a " scream " sound to make it more shocking 😮
I loved that scene.
The talking they were doing at night was to explain Quints personality. It was important to the plot.
You talked over the conversation.
that part is enough to go back and just watch it and listen to what is going on.
Is it just me or more of the reactors first time watching these movies are talking over the movie the majority of the time totally missing all the important points leading up to what's going on in the middle of the movie. 1:18:09 - Considering that this came out in 1975, long before CGI was even a concept, I think the Shark looked pretty authentic
They don't until pratical effects
I heard the animatronic had a lot of malfunctioning problems. Must've been hell filming this movie whenever it broke down.

“These people about to make me put two cigarettes in my mouth and I don’t even smoke!” 😂
I realize how old I am when people don't know Roy Scheider or Richard Dreyfuss are. They were well known after Jaws and for many years after.
I’m suprised no one ever mentions scheider when he’s in The punisher as the dad. That was his last big film role.
If I ever get a boat.. I'm towing three barrels behind me and keep looking back with a worried look as I pass other boaters....
The actor who played Quint had a drinking problem and his co stars said he was drunk in all his scenes.

I grew up not far from where this movie was set. It caused an entire generation to be scared of the ocean 🤣
And now the real sharks are scaring everyone. If you like true shark attack stories check out Hal at Sharks Happen for hundreds of them.

I agree, y'all need to read the story of what happened to the crew of the USS Indianapolis. That was a real life horror story !

Dolphins will help out a human and kill a shark in groups specially
Large great white sharks actually eat dolphins.

There's a cute vid of dolphins & a dog playing with a ball together.
Girls sharp she figures out everything quick...I seen this movie so many times and Antoinette knows more than me😅
That shark that was caught on top of the cage was a real shark that stumbled on the watery set. Good move on keeping that in the movie.
That was filmed in waters off of Australia by shark experts Ron and Valerie Taylor.
I love the fact that you Didn't edit the movie to 24 minutes Like other reactors watching a 90 minute film . we had a long reaction that was excellent

Even now, if I'm in the ocean and I reach the part where my feet can't touch the floor and the water's temperature cools all I hear is the theme in my head. Time to head back, immediately.
It's a ferry boat ⛵
Dolphins have saved people from sharks, actually. I haven't heard of one attacking people.
Was tough watching this reaction, as there was so much talking/complaining during the movie. Never seen people talk over the story of the Indianapolis that Quint tells, which is one of the best scenes in the movie. Thanks anyways for the reaction. Take care
Can't believe they talked over it.
Yeah i agree...I was 15 when this movie came out. I too at 15 was intrigued by such a story but i listen when people are talking that's how you learn.. can't believe anyone would talk over that. But maybe they will watch it again.😳🤦✌
When he was talking about the USS Indianapolis. It's was a true story.
I grew up in Huntington Beach California and seen this movie in the 70s, when I was a little girl. I hung out with surfers all my life. My Daddy took me out snorkeling in the ocean all the time but, I didn't go in. I ain't been in the water all these years because of Jaws. Hell no, I'm a lake girl now 😂
can you imagine watching this while in elementary school? fathers & brothers' fave.
I love diving and until I started watching reactors I had no idea people were so afraid of the ocean. Never occurred to me 😂
Robert Shaw "Quint" was a great english actor, his other famous role was a villain in an early bond movie, from russia with love. Sadly he died 3 years after this movie, in 1978, from a heart attack, he was only 51.
That was crucial on that guy that got eaten. Man i wont be swimming in the ocean ever after seeing that.first time watching. Great reactions Adogg,.
1100 men went into the water......🥺
Their is a documentary on the Indianapolis on UT. A survivier talks about it. Scary. 😳🥺
The USS Indianapolis is a true story....and everyone craps when Ben Gardners head appears. Great reaction.😊
1:51 the cup says "Falstaff" on it, which was (is?) a beer brand. If you rented or bought a Keg back then, they would give you complimentary cups with the beer name and logo on them, so everyone would know what brand you were drinking.
"A whaaaat?"
Works every time.🤣🤣
12. Aside from the pool used in the Ben Gardner boat scenes, all of the shipboard scenes were filmed entirely at sea,
13. In the book not only does Hooper die but he was also having an affair with Mrs. Brody.
14. JAWS II is the only other one worth watching. It revolves around the Brody kids and their friends. Including one of the mayors' kids.
15 The third one was so bad that Scheider read the script and said NO.
Are y’all from Louisiana by any chance?
Never went into a lake or river again after Jaws. Nope !!!!!
ME too.
It wasn’t winter. It was very early spring 1974.
I saw that at the movie theater when I was 15 years old when It first came out. Crazy !
1:00:38 "A shark is a damn shark, they do the same thing."
Not true.
Office Space is basically a documentary too :-b
Cheers You Two
I didn’t scream but almost threw my popcorn in the air when the head fell down 😂
This guy's a riot!! haha - Great review folks!!
58:11 - it wasn't necessarily a fail. They got the Barrell attached and that's what they wanted
That's a ferry you need to go to the outer banks in NC...Hatteras to Ockrakoke island on a ferry...a whole new world!
I use to ride the faery from Milwaukie to Muskegon mich, for work when i was younger .good money in Illinois. I hear they are still running the barge not really sure though.nice reactions with your daughter Adogg.
Damn, you all kept me watching and laughing! Great video.. grazie da Washington D.C. 😎🙂👋🏼✌🏼
You don’t really understand the concept of a movie. Too bad.
I see that fake looking shark she called it had Antionette covering her eyes and jumping
Golly, Antoinette, you’re the best! Loved your reaction.
Love to see young people watching the classics, Thanks for sharing 😃👍✌️
I actually walked by a man made ocean pool and in it was 14 foot black tiger shark 😅 this was in the Caribbean waters 💯😁 the beach life guards would never let swimmers float out like that, and there a sections for swimmers, surfers and boogie boarders
Dolphins have been known to save people from sharks, from drowning and are generally friendly. Never heard of one attacking folks.
Dolphins in captivity have been known to be jerks...probably because they're in captivity.
Man don't bother with the Jaws sequel movies. There is just no comparison.
Antoinette makes me😄 every time she screams.
Great reaction guys! I love your accents so much. XO
Heavy southern. Not Texas. I’d say Alabama or Mississippi. Maybe Georgia.
