The giant V-rex always cranked my anxiety levels, turning around to see his jaws wide open slowly creeping up on you is horrifying. Waiting for Ann to open the door in that one level is so well done. 😱

PSA: if you are going to try and run this game on a modern PC, make sure it's not the collector's edition that came in a golden steelbook. That one came with intrusive DRM that can brick a Windows 7, 8 and 10 machine, forcing a system restore or even reformat. @@supahgualtah My advice is to avoid installing any game that at any point came with starforce or securom, unless you make a Windows XP partition or even better, build a retro PC. Windows 7 and onwards are simply not designed for backwards compatibility, it's evident the thought didn't even cross their minds. Just buy a shitty $150 office pre-assembled PC, wipe the HDD and install Win XP SP2 on it: even with integrated chipsets it'll be more than enough powerful to run any mid-2000s games that never made it to Steam or GOG.
This game was my childhood! I would play this game all day, every single day. Never felt repetitive, graphics in my opinion were ahead of it's time during that period, amd story telling was great singing how it was in collaboration with the King Kong movie. Really glad you did a review on the game, it gave me so much nostalgia when I would see the background gameplay as you have your review. Still have this game with me to this day!
What i thought was pretty cool playing as Kong is when he takes damage and a beating from the enemies and to the point the screen is red close to death you have Kong pound his chest and roars healing himself as if he just took an adrenaline shot which never got old.
The best movie tie in game ever made!! So many people don't realize how great this game is. I remember renting it as a kid, not expecting much, but was blown away and bought it as soon as i could. Great review Gman!
I tried installing this on my computer about half a year ago. It broke everything and I had to wipe my SSD and reinstall windows. It really is a shame, I have great childhood memories playing this with my friend on my old PS2 and X360

This was such a cool game. I like how ahead of the times it was in terms of survival games, like this game did it years before the big survival simulator boom that came with Dayz. Also, this was one of only 3 games I ever got all the achievements for, mostly because they’re handed out after every chapter, but it still counts! Great review and Merry Christmas!
The part where you had to distract a t-rex and lure it towards you while others were slowly opening a door was the most terrifying thing in my childhood.
I remember getting this on Christmas and getting a free ticket to the movie. Probably the best movie I've seen as a kid in the theaters and I loved the game.
Much more better TUROK game than 2008 to be honest. BTW, thank you very much for reviewing this game, GGG! Always wondered how this game based on one of my favourite movies fairs out.
Far from a turok game king Kong as a thing was around far longer than turok was even a thought and probably older than the devs of turok. But I agree turok 2008 was an abomination I sadly bought played and lost brain cells over I'd say anything better than that heap.
Still have my PS2 copy of this game and still play it every now and then to this day, it's such a fun game. Also to answer some things you mentioned: - For the "Fury Mode" (I think it's officially called "God Mode" but I'm not 100% sure), you actually to mash a button instead of using anything involving the joysticks. - At least in the PS2 version, there's an option to have a HUD display your ammo in the Pause Menu.
Great Christmas present, One of my favorite movie tie-in games. Great video as always man. Though as far as I know, this specific team didn't work on Odyssey. I know it was made at Ubisoft Montipilliar. But Michel Ancel's latest few projects have been Wild and Beyond Good and Evil 2. He was the lead on this and the Rayman series.

This game was pretty great. I remember when the 360 launched, Walmart had a demo unit running this game and it blew me away. I got to play it on PS2 and I still go back to it occasionally. It was very well made. I also had the terrible DS version and even that one had that hard to put down quality and was highly entertaining.
God i loved this game. How you got thrown into a harsh mothernature like world as a normal joe with a few guns just felt amazing. It was an intense and jawdropping experience.
I think one of the best aspects about this game is the survival-horror angle. I remember getting this on Christmas when I was 10, and I was so afraid to move through solo levels with the audio and music that helped with the atmosphere. I wish I could play this again, but my PS2 got stolen a few years back.
Love this game so much, and on ps2 was one of my first games, then a lot of years after I decided to also buy it on Xbox360 because of the updated grapchics. If this game had more attention to detail. A little more variety on some creatures (black centipedes are criminally underused example) by having a few more variants. Some better animations (juvenile V.rex example, because of using Venatosaurus animations they look weird and a bit "broken" sometimes, especially when eating). At least 1 more city level, A bit more complex Kong levels. Keeping some of the cut content in, like enemy models, soundtracks, levels and scenes. With those improvements this game could have been good as it deserved to.
Lol I remember my mom getting this and Grabbed by the Ghoulies and playing this from Christmas Eve night all the way through Christmas Eve day and being in Awe at the graphics. Good times, thanks for this great review, brought me back to a good time.
I just played through this game! Literally just finished it just a few days ago, just started watching you too! So weird, great video couldnt agree more
I didn't remember the fauna attacking and eating each other like this. But their response to getting his and the direct reaction is so damn satisfying. The way everything feels so organic and alive is what I love about this game and the lack of a HUD actually makes this great. You feel helpless and weak when you have to kind of guess your trajectory but it never feels like you missed because of bullshit. The only thing I actually don't like is playing as King Kong ironically. The whole island of giant bugs and beasts trying to kill you in this large and disgusting environment is already an awesome experience. King Kong just felt like a linear modern Uncharted or Assassin's Creed climbing thing with a bit of button mashing. There was nothing really interesting or special done with it besides feeling like an excuse to have it as the final level so you can't complain that it comes out of nowhere. Kind of like how my favorite and most memorable part of the movie is either the rampaging dinosaurs like Lion King or when they fall into the ravine and fight some of the most disgusting vile things i've ever seen outside of a horror movie. Just wished the movie had some mroe of those thing in the rest rather than just being gone through the entire island and tribes. Like how I wanted less playing of Kong and more as Jack and the epic scenes with the T-Rex and beasts. Sadly it's not on Steam and since it's a 3D game you can't download it for free or easily like Dos games or C&C so besides GOG or torrent I have no idea how to get this game unless you have the original CD.
God this is it this is the best christmas gift ever , god man ive been searching for this game and praying for it to be available in xbox or psn but sadly never did , all what i want to say is Thank you for the video and the amazing work you put on your channel. hope you a great new year !

Muh Childhood! but seriously though, i need to point out your playing the crappy version of the game (The "next GEN" version) with its bad graphics, the original Xbox (or GameCube) version is sooo much better, graphics and even game play wise (they have cool loading screen cut scenes, quicker loading time even, textures dont look out of place with the somehow lower polygon, models dont look like King Kongs actual shit, and just overall everything looks more in place then a rushed out "Next Gen" version). Its great you finally got to reviewing this game, but it would've been better you used gameplay from the older consoles (and PC version has some....consequences I heard) but still, great review!
RavenBoy99 this comment is confusing to me. I’ve seen side by side shots of the PS2/Xbox/GC versions to the Xbox 360 version and it was obvious that the 360 version looked the best. How is it that the version on newer hardware looked worse?

Forgotten Sands was released about the same time as the movie in 2010. It's...not bad. It definitely tries to hearken back to the Sands of Time game. It's more like a store brand knockoff compared to the real thing. It's not quite the same, but if you're jones-ing for more Prince, it'll do.

For me this game is literally a tradition to play on Christmas Eve ever since I was a kid lmao
This one was one of my favorite game as a kid and finished it and I was scared shitless when it comes to the brontosaurus part when you have to run, light, and kill some big ass raptors coming at you and have to waste your shotgun or with spears and Kongs lair when the bat for some reason changed from the ones before and also the millipedes that always jumpscare you out of nowhere, oh and the ammo corner is there you just have to go to the setting to enable it if anyone wanted to know how. Anyways this game was my favorite childhood game and thank you for reviewing it
Yeah lol 😂
Kingggkonggglives
Actually it never did come out for the PlayStation 3
That's not true
@@dalhar20 It is.
@@dalhar20 If you played it on PS3 then you were playing the PS2 game on one of the earliest models.
Which was unfortunate, early on the PS3's life cycle could've used all the games it could get, really was a barren period for like 3 years before it got it's second breath and imo surpassed the xb360's library in quality
@@chillhour6155 Blame it on Sony. They wanted the hardware as foreign as possible so devs would be forced to only port it to their system and don't have the resource to port it other rival consoles. Yeah sounds stupid but thats why the CELL happened.
The giant V-rex always cranked my anxiety levels, turning around to see his jaws wide open slowly creeping up on you is horrifying. Waiting for Ann to open the door in that one level is so well done. 😱
Also, nice detail was him drooling over thought of him catching you in his jaws. Scary times. My backs hurt whenever I played levels with Jack and trying to run away from it.
Haha that Tourettes Guy sound effect XD

I remember my dad buying me a copy of King Kong for the OG Xbox. I found the game surprising good with pretty solid graphics.
Oh yes the OG Xbox, the version I played as well.
PSA: if you are going to try and run this game on a modern PC, make sure it's not the collector's edition that came in a golden steelbook. That one came with intrusive DRM that can brick a Windows 7, 8 and 10 machine, forcing a system restore or even reformat. Some say the standard edition is fine, though other confirm it still has the same DRM, so i still wouldn't risk it.
Hope this saves someone some grief.
Starforce was a real son of a bitch back then in 05'
Actually, all copies except the OEM-supplied or downloaded Gamer's Edition all have StarForce.
@@solarstrike33 that's also what i think. I met a guy who swears up and down that he installed the standard edition no problem on a Win 10 machine, but he probably got lucky.
so the GE or Gamer's Edition is the one to go one pc? right (i downloaded four diferent ones, only one of em im certain thats the ge because its says on the file. but i think all the other are already cracked. so im probably fine anyway) dont wanna fuck up my computer !

Recently a guy "raycevick" also did a video on this game.
Oh u mentioned him
I always pronounce his name like Reykjavik
You may read this but dude I recently found your channel and sorta been binge watching it upon discovery. Thank you for all you do.
Cool?
Let's see what's under the tree....A Christmas day Gggmanlives vid! Hell yes
What i thought was pretty cool playing as Kong is when he takes damage and a beating from the enemies and to the point the screen is red close to death you have Kong pound his chest and roars healing himself as if he just took an adrenaline shot which never got old.
Definitely one of my favorite games as a kid, and it still holds up.
This is my Childhood! Goddamm
@Λlex Goddamn i was your age when this came out im old as shit lol
@TheGreatBritishGamer
Is 26 old as shit? Haha!
You honestly need to pirate it. The original game comes with bad DRM.
Yeah the cracked version is the one that works on PC
I'd experience the same.
@Claude Dixon
The GameCube version is better I think. Dolphin is also a better emulator than pcsx2.
Download it from here, it's the DRM-Free Gamer's Edition.

One of the few games I still have for the ps2 and I loved this game as a kid

Gggman for Christmas? Yes please
This brings back alot of memories I'm really happy you're reviewing this classic one of the few movie adaptation games that are really good
Actually, fun fact. The game was also released for the Nintendo GameCube. I still have my copy
FastFeet AshenHeart honestly it’s the best version of the game
I remember playing this game! Brings back wonderful memories! Well done on doing a review for a game that's almost 14 years old but still amazing
Yes finally someone who liked this game as much as i did. Definitively one of the best movie based videogames ever
Best Christmas gift! Thanks for giving this gem the attention it needs.
This game was so good to me as a kid , playing as kong was always like a reward to me after struggling encounters with everything terrifying 😩
Ah I remember playing this in 2008 on the 360. So much nostalgia
This game is my childhood! I can still remember how scared I was while playing as Jack.
I love how at the end GGG's thumbnail is overlayed over Kong's face as he roars
Used to love playing this way back on the PS2, i remember getting a kind of horror vibe in certain levels
Still have my PS2 copy of this game and still play it every now and then to this day, it's such a fun game. Also to answer some things you mentioned:
- For the "Fury Mode" (I think it's officially called "God Mode" but I'm not 100% sure), you actually to mash a button instead of using anything involving the joysticks.
- At least in the PS2 version, there's an option to have a HUD display your ammo in the Pause Menu.
There's just something about a Gggmanlives video on Xmas Day, like butter on bread.
I really do hope the 360 version one day becomes backwards compatible on Xbox one

I will admit this game sometimes scared the shit out of me when I had this game, Plus the V-Rexs where no joke
God i loved this game.
How you got thrown into a harsh mothernature like world as a normal joe with a few guns just felt amazing. It was an intense and jawdropping experience.
I use to play the shit out of this game back in the day.
WOW this is nostalgic. I played this game all the time when it came out and I remember it being one of my favorite games.
I played this on PS2, found it to be a very enjoyable game.
One of my favorite games as a kid, and so underrated. Thanks for giving it some attention.
One of my favourite games of all time.
At least 1 more city level,
A bit more complex Kong levels.
I really want a remastered version of this game .... imagine the game in 4K 60fps 😍😍 if only
I just played through this game!

But he's playing it on PC?
@@Kaunte right! I made a mistake, thanks for correcting me.
He's playing the "Gamer Edition" on PC, which features the Xbox 360 graphics. The original PC release had the "Last gen" graphics.
