    The Three Questions:
Urgency - What's the most pressing thing I need to do today?
Satisfaction - At the end of the day, what will give me the most satisfaction?
Joy - When I reflect on my day, what experience will give me the most joy?

8:48 And more than a simple block, it's a reminder in and of itself of why you should be stopping. A literal reminder would also help a lot i should say, I tend to forget my favorite lines so i leave as much of them as i can open on my phone as images, for example. It doesn't need to be this to work, some kind of totem or symbel or phrase, something you can see or hear and repeat, is enough.
Some of mine are "don't focus on the leaf to see tree", "i can't get distracted!", quotes from Vagabond that trigger an image and vice versa. Always when i'm in a pinch i try to remember this story.

RUclips is the app that pulls me the most, but I'm slowly replacing it with kindle

I have been reading more than watching videos this whole year.
What I do is that the youtube app i hide it out of sight. So whenever I open the phone instead of Facebook ,RUclips or games. The first app that I see is Kindle. And the others are on the app menu
Since it's the first thing I see, I just open it automatically and start reading.

I think there is something really sad about people outsourcing their responsibility for their actions to third party apps.
    I mean consider this...
    It’s 2020 now....
And what will this look like for us in another 10-20 years?
Are we all going to be so pathetic, so lacking in will power, that we can’t make a choice to turn off the tv or internet or log out of a social media app...that we MUST have some third party do it for us?
I think this is a conversation that needs to be at the front of everyone’s mind.
We’ve normalized how weak people are acting, and sympathizing with each other about how we can’t control ourselves. That’s truly sad.
The “smartest” species on the planet cannot control their attention long enough to truly focus on what is important?
These are great tactics outlined from the book, but the underlying issue is what really bothers me.
That humans are quickly becoming pathetic, helpless beings that must rely on the help of an algorithm if anything of any value is to be accomplished in their personal lives.

    • @techiindian9011
      @techiindian9011 4 года назад

I was also wondering about the same, we humans lost the ability to control ourselves and have really become slaves of TECHNOLOGY! Like how am replying to this comment, hooked to youtube :P

That self weakening thought sneaked to my head while watching too, sadly with zero resistance. Such thought opens a backdoor for procrastination, a perfect recipe to sinking even deeper to that which we came here for, bringing time back.
My autopilot was heading to ditch and look for some other solution, your comment brought that thought back to the light to process it consciously. Thank you 💙.
We are at the peak of an era, a change cycle that so imperative that you either adapt or leave. Resistance is not a choice here, we know that sharks went through similar cycles changing how they look to adopt, dinosaurs didn’t!
We have no safe place, we are being attacked everywhere even in our own homes، each individually. Choose to resist and stand rigid, is ignorance of the force.
Yes, we are weak! and we should embrace it and accept how vulnerable we are. These techniques build the momentum needed to gain back control, trying to adopt. Thanks again.

I don't think we are weak and pathetic the way you put it. Just think about how much money and research goes into making these apps. The smartest engineers and designers are constantly working to make sure we spend more and more time on these apps.
We are not weak and pathetic. We need to be aware that these infinity pools are well designed to keep us scrolling. It's from this awareness that we can also engineer and design a productive life for ourselves.
Even the strongest willpower will collapse in front of a well designed and engineered system that targets our deepest psychological and evolutionary points.

The three pieces of advice about shutting things down and deleting apps are for the weak-willed. Instead, keep every distraction within arms reach and exercise your will power. Just don't use them.
You can use an app like RescueTime to track your progress and set your goals.
But what's proposed in this book/video is a crutch. You shouldn'y use a crutch unless you have a broken leg.
