Practice Drawing Everyday with this Simple Exercise

  • In this video I describe a simple excercise designed to help you start drawing every day. The 'Morning Pages for Artists' Drawing Exercise was inspired by Julia Camerons book The Artists Way. The Morning Pages was originally about writing 3 sides of A4 every day. In this version I suggest art students do the same exercises but with drawing.
Turning up and doing a little bit of drawing every day, week after week, month after month, will completely transform your drawing ability and unlock the artist within.
Give it a go and let me know how you get on. I will try and upload some of mine to instagram - so follow me there to keep up to date! - You can also see my students work under the hashtag - #eactutor

A nice exercise to break through the artist block and intimidation. It may be quick and “crappy,” but at least you’re drawing. No pressure stuff.

Great tip! Especially for someone who is always in fear of ruining their 'valuable' sketchbook and therefore never gets to practice 😉

Makes me wonder why I never thought of this! So easy, simple, pressure-free and sustainable! Thank you.

I draw daily out of imagination but when I tried drawing what I see, it was difficult. Sketching what you see strengthens your hand, eye, brain connection. It must be as beneficial as meditation.

I also drew a lot from imagination. But when I looked at old sketchbooks the drawing’s from life seemed more interesting and really reminded me of where I was and what I was doing….I think that even if you like to work from imagination drawing from life helps you become a better artist!

This is great! Thank you. I've always found it hard to do regular morning pages. This makes it more interesting! How long should each drawing last?

I love this! I didn't stick with the morning pages very long 😅but drawing seems more fun! And I did all of nicolaides 10 years ago, but now I need a new incentive, a new something to spark my engine again 😊

Subscribed upon first view, love the explanation, accent, approach, etc. but I must say.... I never saw a weirder way of any artist holding the pencil like that.

Four is just an easy way to fold up a sheet of A4….
