  • I'm pruning the large spreading canopy of my Hibiscus bonsai back to a more compact form, this means removing all the flowers and flower buds.
    I'm also clipping my Natal Plum trees to get a nice interesting trunk line.

    Lot of dramatic big cuts on the hibiscus, I think the left/right thick branches cuts were necessary, I am glad you took those back. The tree is looking great!
    Also lot of reduction for the natal plum haha

    in Indonesia this is called a hibiscus flower and it is very abundant, but I'm sure Mr. Nigel's hands like all of you are very well cared for so that they become beautiful plants 😍💓 I will really imitate them

    Never dissapointed in watching your train of thought when pruning - the hibiscus looks gorgeous!🧡 I really gotta get me one and make it survive!!!
    Sad to see those natal plum cuttings go to waste, but I do understand the lack of space. Good work anyhoo, as always, the trunklines look promising

    Interesting species the Natal plum. Very compact growth.

    I LooOOOoooVe the trunk on that hibiscus! This is yet another tree I blame you for my owning them Haha! And yes, a little prune on the plums, they went from Thick to Stick. One difficult concept to really get is to not look at the trees in the now, to look at them in the future so as to make decisions now to attain that future look.

    This was a great video, Nigel. My favourites are when you make massive changes to your trees and keep them compact. I agree with all the changes you made on your hibiscus and can't wait to see the next video after it has recovered. Your plum trees are going to be so cool as well.

    I wonder if having to chop the trees so hard to ensure good space in the plantroom will actually make your trees even better! Kinda adds another layer of reasons to compact!

  • @Stensrudsoilfood
    @Stensrudsoilfood Год назад +5

    I love when you prune the hell out of a tree! It gives me more confidence in my own pruning, a bit more daring! I was wondering, with your jades, do you wait for the leaves to start wrinkling before you water them again?

    • @TheBonsaiZone
      @TheBonsaiZone  Год назад +4

      No, I think that's leaving it a bit too long, I watch for the soil to almost dry out completely and then fully water it, if it is a sunny day. If it is not a sunny day, I wait until one comes along. I will mist the Jade while I'm waiting!

    Hi Nigel, what do you think of the Vouiu brand tools? I notice you're using the concave cutter, but not the scissors. Are they worthwhile if I'm looking for new tools? Thank!

    • @TheBonsaiZone
      @TheBonsaiZone  Год назад +1

      The concave cutter has some rust on it, it must be a poorer quality Stainless Steel. Most of the tools are quite large and I find them a bit clumsy for smaller trees. Overall they seem to still be quite good, I'll have to use them more often to really test them out!

    Hi, Can I cut back the branches of my young Ficus "Ginseng" and leave leafless branches at the end without the branches or tree dying ? Many branches of my ficus are straight. I know it's okay to cut hard but it's still stressful as a decision :D Thank you again for the free tutorial Nigel Saunders 🙂
