What I love most about both of the frost punk games is how they handle morality. Unlike most games where your choices are the blue button or the red button, it truly feels like no one option is purely evil or good as intent, and how far you go determines how evil it is. An excellent example of this is allowing child labor in the first game. Now, on the surface, that sounds really evil, especially compared to putting them in safe houses, but its how you use the child labor that determines how evil you are, as maybe you only use it in an emergency or only put them in safe jobs like the cookhouses you have to remember you are in a very desperate situation especially if you are not that good at the game yet so you might be forced to pick the extreme options like sending the children into the coal mines to survive. hope that made sense to someone
yup and personally I find putting them to work as engineer apprentices is deal you get more out of them there safer and the talent pool increases but the tradeoff is you get that later meanwhile child labour is the quick and dirty option
12:23 Be very careful making promises you don't really need to. It's very easy to end up with a stack of promises you need to fulfill that may or may not be immediately beneficial to your city. Additionally, in captain difficulty, the tension increase from doing things against your zeitgeist(s) is insane, even if it only really kicks in late game. As one final tip, be very careful in reading demands. 19:20 the demand was just to research, not to build, which is a very important distinction. Some demands will have you research and pass a law while others will just have you research something or build something (rarely both). Researching something you'll never use can be a decent way of building favor with certain groups, just make sure you don't accidentally agree to something that'll be a big issue. Also, there is a bug where you'll be asked to research something or pass a law you've already done, and there's no way to complete the task, so watch out for that.
Nitpick: I don't think they ever demand "research and pass law". They do demand "research and _propose_ law" but that happens automatically whenever you research a law.
If you want to go full adaptation. May I recommend that you exile the opposition? Not just enforce order. (Spoiler alert) Because you can build another settlement and encourage the other ideology to just leave. Meaning more people in the frostland, more adaptation.
If you are interested in looking at some community ideas, Grimkleaper did a video of him beating the game with no generator on Captain difficulty. There might be some tactics and tricks that he used that could aid you on your journey. Praise Pravus!
@@Khaim.m Lucas is actually right! Grimreaper did a run of Frostpunk 2 with no use of the generator beyond what was needed to complete quests (i.e. turning on the generator tutorial)
Great video, as always! Small tip from playing the game myself, if you look right under the total population tab, there is a very small bar of progress that shows when you will have the next burst of population. Hovering over that bar with the mouse will give more information. I think this will be very useful to you for any Frostpunk 2 run.
Those straight lines is what i've done a lot and you also can leave a spot free to place a heating hub inbetween. that has helped me a lot on developing further before having to proceed to next chapters to gain oil and as well as having less troubles with the whiteout, that is no joke on this difficulty and also way more laws and research for the last chapters
heating hubs are actually really good when the whiteout comes, that extra 20 heat over lets say 3 districts when each distract is needing 100hundred heat demand means an extra day of coal stockpile
As a frostpunk 1 veteran and FP2 good player ,now I feel disappointed how easy the Captain difficulty is compared to extreme diff in FP1. I made ton of mistakes during Captain diff run and even went for achievements and still managed to beat it. I hope they make it harder or add an extra difficulty option or modifiers
Crevice and crevasse are actually two different things, and if memory serves it's a matter of scale. However, what I'd be interested to see is going for a reconciliation resolution to the upcoming civil war, and to conclude it with no deaths. I imagine it'd be quite the challenge to keep both side deradicalized enough to have no casualty conflicts on Captain difficulty, as if I recall correctly fights won't result in any casualties if neither side has any fervor.
just realized. but the child born when the gennie is turned on is the same child from the epilogue that was all like 'im gonna gut all those who wronged me' or sommat close to that. both are named lily may
I spent about an hour in ms paint just messing around with different configurations of hubs and districts. I don't think I really hit the perfectly optimized plans, but i definitely hit the good enough plans. It also is somewhat difficult because not every space on the map is a hexagon. Some of them are pentagons
It would be funny how everyone is so curious in the city why the generator keeps being turned off and the steward’s reason is “We are on Captain difficulty”
Heat hubs are imba. If you build districts Right you can change 25 materials for 6*40 heat which is insane. Also the districts touch each other on 2 sides. So you will get 6*+80 heat.
In my multiple play throughs in utopia, Adaptation is waayyy better than progress. The reduction in heat demand is insane, youll barely rely on your generator.
i think granting the faction the agenda is easy way for increase their opinion, and most law the faction propose not always will pass so didnt need to negotiate, basically free increse their opinion
I disagree, I think you should almost never give away the agenda. Council sessions are a valuable resource - most laws are pure benefit and you want to pass them as quickly as possible. And while they might propose something that gets shot down without help, sometimes they put up something that will actually pass, and then you have to waste another promise. Finally the rep gain is just not that much (at least on Captain).
At 23:40-ish you say that hubs don't affect buildings inside the districts, only the district requirements, but i think the buildings automatically add their heat and workforce requirements to the district when they are build. That would mean that they are indeed reduced by hubs, no?
They should be affected, and the district panel says they are, but apparently the overall colony totals say they aren't. This is almost certainly a bug.
So did your choice in the prologue make the faith keepers a faction? Also when you go back to the prologue area will you make the other choice so the wanderers don’t get angry later?
If you still were the Captain you could have overruled the Senate but I'm not surprised that a second campaign won. Did you slaughter the seals this time to see if that would change things?
Didn’t the grim kleeper do a max difficulty video, without having the generator on expect for once to end chapter one. Yes but he did a lot of exploits.
Hello Pravus. Dont think you would respond to this if not someone please answer me. I went a stalwart route and finally got criminal executions. then i wanted to do the pilgrim radical idea so i changed everything to tradition and yet still it refuses to give me acces to this law despite my tradition being 80% full.test
if you voted for the open door policy you wouldn't have lost so much trust, think as it were a church door, in my country there is a saying if someone leaves a door open then someone asks if that person was born in church ,since they are or used to be always open

Maybe that’s only possible after beating the game. I’m not sure.
