Bryce Harper was in very similar situation to Soto. Bryce was entering his 26th birthday year when he signed with the Phillies. At the time, his 13/330 was the biggest contract in the sport until Trout extended. Actually digging into the #’s here, Soto and Harper are very similar types of players in that both are on base machine, not your biggest power hitters but can produce 25-35 HR per year, & both come with that in game intensity and will perform consistently all year round. I’d be happy to give Soto a similar contract with more annually obviously. But 13/550 could do it.
Hey guys! Love the show. I can think of many different ways that the Mets could go with this year's offseason but I think that they should take a similar approach to what the Braves did and invest in their own talent. For example, they could put Vientos at third, Mauricio at second, and Acuna in centerfield. They could then focus their money on Soto, Alonso and pitching. They could also use other prospects like Williams and Bady for trade bate. What do you think?
Remember, BASEBALL is a team sport, not an individual sport. One man does not make or break a team. The $500 or $600 million that the METS spend on SOTO ,they could use to resign ALONSO, sign CORBIN BURNES , ANTHONY SANTANDER and maybe a good reliever. Then they should trade for GARRET CROCHET and BRENT ROOKER who hit .291, 40hrs and over 100 rbis. He plays the outfield and could DH. THIS MAKES MORE SENSE.
Mullins sounds like an interesting option, but I think it all depends on how long you think it would take for Gilbert to be available for a callup. If the Mets can get Gilbert up by June 1, could a combo of Nimmo/Taylor cover CF till Gilbert is available? In games when Nimmo is in CF, maybe a combo of McNeil and Marte could cover LF (assuming the big guy Soto is in RF)? Then the Mets don't have to expend capital for Mullins. I agree it's time for a big trade, an Crocket makes sense, but maybe only one, can't see the Mets severely reduce their minor league talent stockpile for these secondary trades.
If they get Soto, I could even pass on Alonso if you sign Christian Walker to man 1B for 3 yrs at a fraction of the cost of Alonso with the hope that by the end of 3 yrs, Clifford can be ready to slide in there at 1B. If you're going to take on $600 mill for Soto maybe #75 mill for Walker rather than $200 mill for Alonso make more financial sense overall.
Have to believe To get Crochet there’s no way they are doing that without giving up Brandon Sproat and/or Christian Scott or the Cowboy or Jonah Tong. Plus plus.
Mets have needed a bad boy Winker type player ever since Piazza had a bat thrown towards him and NOBODY on the Mets had the courage to charge the mound.
The Mets must get crochett, we need a top 5 caliber pitcher. This is like Red Sox getting sale, give up what we have to in this. Maybe trade for bichette as well if we lose Alonso move him to Third. Sign Soto, manea, some other names. cant wait!
I believe the money would be better spent getting 5 pitchers. We have great batters and we need to invest in defense. Dodgers have made it far by just having their Bullpen each get 3 outs.
get the big guy from toronto and joto . need to get 2 aces pitching and greatly improve the pen. also try to bring back degram from texas. major barry ret usaf
Teams going 600M for soto would be silly. All they have to do is beat ohtani’s “net present value” of $460M and $46M a year. Why would any team feel compelled to go that high. Not smart
I agree that the Mets are more likely to trade for a top of the rotation starter instead of signing one. Do you think they fill out the rotation with guys like Eovaldi, Kikuchi and Pivetta if Severino and Manaea decide to sign with other teams? And what do you think about the Japanese pitchers Sugano and Ogasawara?
Hi guys awesome show ! I love it ! Do you think the Mets can afford to sign Pete and Soto and a very good solid pitcher ? Also some retooling in the outfield ? ❤
Crochett? Averages 4.5 innings per start!!! We’re gonna trade acuna and baty plus take a big contract back? No way. He’s a reliever. Not really a starter type.
They better figure out something now I'm getting annoyed with them it's going to be almost 40 years soon..had to watch the old NY team win the world series;. AGAIN 😡
Sign Burnes and Fried, and Manaea, bring up Vasil as a spot starter/long reliever, and call up Sproat to start. The Mets still have Peterson as the fifth starter with both Butto plus Megill as spot starters who also do long relief work. Hamel might also evolve into a decent spot starter/ reliever. Lindor stays at SS and Vientos is our 3B man. Acuna becomes the 2B man while Jett Williams is our everyday CFer. Nimmo remains in LF while Winker and Marte both share limited RF plus some DH duties. Inglesias remains as a Mets IFer. Sign Soto who I think might have less difficluties playing LF rather than his usual RF which he cannot field for the life of him. Nimmo can play either RFor LF with McNeil as the back up Ofer/2B man. Alvarez is still the first string catcher with Torrens as his backup, Suero might be able to come up sometime after the 2025 draft to play OF and catch. This guy both runs and hits decently
Severino isn't the answer......I knew the Dodgers would bury him. He was helpful overall this season but I'd let him go. Manea ....I would take another shot with him but I would not overpay. He.... himself..... said he was tired and wore out late last season. That's understandable.....but it very likely will happen Again
Stop mentioning Soto in the same breath with Ted Williams, it's exhausting. Check Baseball Reference. It's pure exaggeration that Soto is anywhere near Ted.
Please don't get Soto. Too much money that plays mediocre defense with mid level speed and will end up as a sole dh. Spread the money in the pitching and try to get someone like teoscar or someone like him and focus on pitching and a third baseman and move mark to first.
@jonathanburgos933 I definitely hear you and can agree that because of his age and hitting ability as well as his superstar level now that he is a target, but everything about him reminds me too much of Stanton, and frankly 600 plus million for a dh is absurd.
In the case of PETE ALONSO STEVE COHEN will have to step in and get the deal done. DON'T EXPECT STEARNS TO MAKE A STRONG EFFORT TO KEEP PETE BECAUSE OF STEARNS MINI MARKET/MONEY BALL PHILOSOPHY.

true, but if they gotta go to 600 over 14 or 15 they gotta get it done.

Also my name is Hollis Peirce and my podcast (which is not on youtube) is Twenty-First Century Disability.
Another great show fellas
LFGM ❤
ALSO REMEMBER THAT BRENT'S ROOKER SALARY IS A MEASLY $700,000 AND THAT 'S UP STEARN'S ALLY.
Keep both IGLESIAS and TORRENS who is better on defense than ALVAREZ.
Smart guys. Great points.

Funny $700million to Ohtani to go along with the $300m to Betts and Yamamoto didn't seem to hurt the Dodgers...
Not a bad idea however nothing is guaranteed and trades certainly fall into that category.
That’s not how it works. You can’t take Soto 1yr salary & sign Alonso, Burnes, & Santander with that.
Wrong if you want to win you need superstars for the big moments… Soto alone is great enough to significantly elevate an offense
You’re a dumbass
As a dedicated Mets fan I would like to say need tanner scot badly
David Stearns isn’t handing out long term contracts for RPs. Way too volitile an asset, one yr they are unhittable the next yr they have a 5 ERA 😂
Post season matters. That’s what we play for. You gotta perform in playoffs.

Keep up the top quality content boys!
Keep both IGLESIAS and TORRENS
just asking why isnt there any tabs to skip back and forth between topics like there normally is?
The METS should have a six man rotation and they have the money to get it done.
SCOTT BORAS IS A LEACH IN BASEBALL.
jD Martinez for hitting coach in minors ?
Sounds good to me
Burnes. Senga. Manea as a top 3 with a budding Peterson as a 4 is a good start I think
Bring back JOEY CORA who did an outstanding job as third base coach for the METS.
juan soto to the mets and garrett crochet to the mets in 2025 this offseason

The METS should resign MANAEA and SEVERINO and if possible QUINTANA.
Mets have needed a bad boy Winker type player ever since Piazza had a bat thrown towards him and NOBODY on the Mets had the courage to charge the mound.
Snell & Burns * 8th inning closer
The Mets must get crochett, we need a top 5 caliber pitcher. This is like Red Sox getting sale, give up what we have to in this. Maybe trade for bichette as well if we lose Alonso move him to
Third. Sign Soto, manea, some other names. cant wait!
The only position player I’m interested in is vlad jr as of now
In order to have a five man rotation , you need starters who can go at least eight innings and throw complete games.
barely anyone does that anymore.
That’s not even a little bit true, dumbass
I believe the money would be better spent getting 5 pitchers. We have great batters and we need to invest in defense. Dodgers have made it far by just having their Bullpen each get 3 outs.
Rather trade for Valdez on Houston
get the big guy from toronto and joto . need to get 2 aces pitching and greatly improve the pen. also try to bring back degram from texas. major barry ret usaf
Mauricio and Baty....trade them for a big time pitcher. Snell
👍👍
1 year deal for Walker Buehler with player option & resign Manaea to 3 yrs $60mil

$650/13yrs 50 mil AAV for Soto. Maybe some opt outs in there? What do you guys think?
If the Mets are interested in resigning Alonso, will the Yankees stay out of it ala Judge?
Hi guys awesome show ! I love it ! Do you think the Mets can afford to sign Pete and Soto and a very good solid pitcher ? Also some retooling in the outfield ? ❤

No, Stanek can go. It'll be ok. Really.
Soto is not Ohtani. He won't even defer money. It'll wreck the ball club in the long term.
Mullins is like bj upton ehhhh
Then again rather have Mullins then Taylor
Mullins replaces Bader to pair with Taylor
Do you think 5 years for 150 million is not enough for Pete? If not I said let him walk
alonso 6yrs 160million not a penny more
They better figure out something now I'm getting annoyed with them it's going to be almost 40 years soon..had to watch the old NY team win the world series;. AGAIN 😡

I love the star signings but will any young minor leaguers have a chance to make the team
I say bring up Ronny , sign Pete and sign Santander
Severino isn't the answer......I knew the Dodgers would bury him. He was helpful overall this season but I'd let him go. Manea ....I would take another shot with him but I would not overpay. You know nothing and it’s obvious
Please don't get Soto. Too much money that plays mediocre defense with mid level speed and will end up as a sole dh. Spread the money in the pitching and try to get someone like teoscar or someone like him and focus on pitching and a third baseman and move mark to first.
There will be money for all that, you cannot pass up on a generational talent like soto. As he ages you can DH him.

Have you guys looked into these aaa arms? These young guys like basil and tidwell? Awful. 6 eras
5 135m
