Bryce Harper was in very similar situation to Soto. Bryce was entering his 26th birthday year when he signed with the Phillies. At the time, his 13/330 was the biggest contract in the sport until Trout extended.
Actually digging into the #’s here, Soto and Harper are very similar types of players in that both are on base machine, not your biggest power hitters but can produce 25-35 HR per year, & both come with that in game intensity and will perform consistently all year round.
I’d be happy to give Soto a similar contract with more annually obviously. But 13/550 could do it.

Hey guys! Love the show. I can think of many different ways that the Mets could go with this year's offseason but I think that they should take a similar approach to what the Braves did and invest in their own talent. For example, they could put Vientos at third, Mauricio at second, and Acuna in centerfield. They could then focus their money on Soto, Alonso and pitching. They could also use other prospects like Williams and Bady for trade bate. What do you think?

Remember, BASEBALL is a team sport, not an individual sport. One man does not make or break a team. The $500 or $600 million that the METS spend on SOTO ,they could use to resign ALONSO, sign CORBIN BURNES , ANTHONY SANTANDER and maybe a good reliever. Then they should trade for GARRET CROCHET and BRENT ROOKER who hit .291, 40hrs and over 100 rbis. He plays the outfield and could DH. THIS MAKES MORE SENSE.

Mullins sounds like an interesting option, but I think it all depends on how long you think it would take for Gilbert to be available for a callup. If the Mets can get Gilbert up by June 1, could a combo of Nimmo/Taylor cover CF till Gilbert is available? In games when Nimmo is in CF, maybe a combo of McNeil and Marte could cover LF (assuming the big guy Soto is in RF)? Then the Mets don't have to expend capital for Mullins. I agree it's time for a big trade, an Crocket makes sense, but maybe only one, can't see the Mets severely reduce their minor league talent stockpile for these secondary trades.

If they get Soto, I could even pass on Alonso if you sign Christian Walker to man 1B for 3 yrs at a fraction of the cost of Alonso with the hope that by the end of 3 yrs, Clifford can be ready to slide in there at 1B. If you're going to take on $600 mill for Soto maybe #75 mill for Walker rather than $200 mill for Alonso make more financial sense overall.

I agree that the Mets are more likely to trade for a top of the rotation starter instead of signing one. Do you think they fill out the rotation with guys like Eovaldi, Kikuchi and Pivetta if Severino and Manaea decide to sign with other teams? And what do you think about the Japanese pitchers Sugano and Ogasawara?

Sign Burnes and Fried, and Manaea, bring up Vasil as a spot starter/long reliever, and call up Sproat to start. The Mets still have Peterson as the fifth starter with both Butto plus Megill as spot starters who also do long relief work. Hamel might also evolve into a decent spot starter/ reliever. Lindor stays at SS and Vientos is our 3B man. Acuna becomes the 2B man while Jett Williams is our everyday CFer. Nimmo remains in LF while Winker and Marte both share limited RF plus some DH duties. Inglesias remains as a Mets IFer. Sign Soto who I think might have less difficluties playing LF rather than his usual RF which he cannot field for the life of him. Nimmo can play either RFor LF with McNeil as the back up Ofer/2B man. Alvarez is still the first string catcher with Torrens as his backup, Suero might be able to come up sometime after the 2025 draft to play OF and catch. This guy both runs and hits decently

He.... himself..... said he was tired and wore out late last season. That's understandable.....but it very likely will happen Again

Please don't get Soto. Too much money that plays mediocre defense with mid level speed and will end up as a sole dh. Spread the money in the pitching and try to get someone like teoscar or someone like him and focus on pitching and a third baseman and move mark to first.

@jonathanburgos933 I definitely hear you and can agree that because of his age and hitting ability as well as his superstar level now that he is a target, but everything about him reminds me too much of Stanton, and frankly 600 plus million for a dh is absurd.

In the case of PETE ALONSO STEVE COHEN will have to step in and get the deal done. DON'T EXPECT STEARNS TO MAKE A STRONG EFFORT TO KEEP PETE BECAUSE OF STEARNS MINI MARKET/MONEY BALL PHILOSOPHY.
