They got away with a lot in a show for 8 year olds but killing a teenager on screen was a step too far. So it was kept...really unclear.

You know - it was really unclear...
I mean, a non-bender getting hit by a rock that size at that speed probably caved in his whole rib cage. That's about as cut and dry as you can get about murdering a child on a Nickelodeon show.
Just in case you missed the sequence of events. Long Fang released Jet brainwashed to lead the gang away from ba sing se. He was unknowingly leading the gang away from the city. And then they got his memories back and went to the secret base instead.
Damn jet rip 😢
Jet is in fact dead.
The show runners are not trying to be obtuse about Jet. Nickelodeon's rules just prevented them from saying outright that he had been killed. Drawing out the revelation serves to make it more dramatic, IMO.
you know it was really unclear about Jet but the blue sprite story seems to have been done I will miss that
