So love the video. With that said, collecting the golden snitch simply is the point when the game ends. The person that captures the snitch is awarded 150 points for their team. Mathematically they can still lose after catching the snitch. In book 4, this is demonstrated in the quidditch world cup. Apologies for fully nerding your comment section.
But when you introduce ultra-fast brooms, the whole game becomes who can catch the snitch the fastest, and it's unlikely to arrive at a situation where you are down by 150 points
The Snitch is worth 150 points and catching it ends the game immediately. If you catch the snitch but the opposing team was more than 150 points ahead of yours, your team loses.
Well except for in Harry Potter: quidditch champions, where it's only 30 points and doesn't end the match but it lasts till time expires or whoever scores 100 first.
@@RottenMouse because the game in the books makes absolutely no sense from a game design standpoint and is just a device to make the main character the main guy in his sports team.

In Quidditch, the Snitch is worth 150 points. So if the opponent catches the snitch and you are leading by a margin greater than 150, you still win. Catching the snitch is the only way the game can end however, so it is possible to go up by an infinite number of points, and never win. Strategically, sometimes it makes sense for the "seeker" to purposefully not catch the snitch even after finding it in order to prolong the game to allow his or her team to close the points differential before capturing the snitch and ending the game. Love your channel Levy!! I really really do wish all the best for you

14:10-14:15 I LOVE how this is a hallmark for great players. 😂 Another reason I can't wait for you to become a GM. I NEED the deciding game to be one where you sac the rook for the win or leading to the win. It would literally be the greatest video of all time. I'm calling it now.
how does gotham manage to start with a unique and funny opener that also piques my interest every single video. like how many times and in different ways can a man introduce just a good chess game without it getting old?? and the fact that his commentary throughout the video is witty with just one take? no wonder he was live commentating chessboxing
I don't even play chess, but I just really just enjoy his way of analysis. Being able to quickly find the irony in something or just his witty remarks. I want to see him react to like those random video compilations, for the same reason that I like seeing him to seemingly insignificant chess moves 🤣
that was a great game. the complete evisceration of the queen side was no less than epic. the stone cold defense of blacks king was very impressive, as expensive was it was. as an english player it was very cool to see how a champion plays the opening

Fascinating game! Such weird tense dynamics. And the fact that a subgoal of the game seems to have been to get the most pieces to the right side of the board and still win.
18:40 So the way it works is the quidditch game doesn't end until the snitch is caught. Whoever catches it wins. The points they get in the game are house points. It's confusing but points do not matter in quidditch other than for house points.
18:37 Catching the snitch ends the match. Additionally gives 150 points. So team not catching the snitch can still win if they were up more than 150 points
18:09 Tapping into my memory from more than 10 years ago. Catching the golden snitch is the one and only condition for the game to end. It can go on for months as long as nobody catches it. Upon catching the snitch, the seeker's team wins 150 points (only seekers are allowed to catch the snitch). That's usually enough to win the game but in theory it's totally possible to lose the game upon catching the snitch if the opposing team has a lead of over 150 points. In that case the obvious strategy is to prevent the opposing team's seeker from catching the snitch until you can turn the game around.
At hogwarts the cup is decided by points or points differential at the end of the year. If you are giving up goals but catch the snitch to win every game you could lose the cup to another team who wins while scoring goals
I discovered that in some benoni-like structures (like potentially even in this game), queenside castling can be effective as white. Obviously it depends on the specific position, but it's a nice idea to know nonetheless. Of course, even then, the king walk that black does makes any attempt at a kingside attack for white a lot harder to justify.
Yeah Levi so in quidditch you don't win the match, you just get 150 points and end the match so if you are down by like 160 points when you catch the snitch you still lose... Its just that you end the match. Have a good one, I love your book btw just got my hands on it, good stuff
for Quidditch, you get 150 points for the golden snitch. If the green team is at 170 points for example (as in the World Cup with Bulgaria and Ireland) and the red seeker gets the snitch, green wins by points
It’s confusing bc in the first movie when he explains it, you get the distinct impression the one who catches the snitch wins…regardless of anything else. Appreciate the explanations above.
18:35 When you get the snitch you end the match and get 150 points, but you can still lose the game if you are down more than those points in _normal_ scoring, in fact exactly this is described at the start of 4th book at the World Cup finals.
quidditch expert the golden snitch grants 150 points and ends the game each goal is 10 points so if you are actually up over 15 goals you can get the snitch and lose of course you would never do that unless you were attempting to stop the opposing team from crushing you from not grabbing it since if i recall the old ps2 world cup game correctly it's a round robin and the amount you score and thus win by is what is calculated for the overall standing even above win loss ratio so losing by 10 would be way better in the long run then losing by 310 for a full season there is even an in game achievement specifically for getting the snitch and still losing on purpose for lore reasons
@@tymnus9835 yep and whichever team that was was the one who had the achievement since each team had their own lists of stuff to do like i said lore reasons lol

@@bozydarboski9407 a few issues with that is that the snitch does move slightly outside the main field of play for the majority of it's movement that the seekers can only seek in and you can gain multiple goals at once a max of 3 per play since there are 3 goals at each players end of the field and you can combo between players to shoot into each once per play a special move in the PS2 game also the other players besides the seeker must line back up after each goal/set of goals making this strategy effectively impossible or just plain awful since with no defense 6 or 7 plays to be above 150 is much smaller a window to work with then you might think
@@aboveaveragegaming5503 that could be adjusted for with this setup: 1 defender, 1 quaffleguy (forgot the exact term) and 1 beater defend the goal posts, while the seeker, 2 quaffleguys and the other beater seek for the snitch

18:26 the snitch is worth 150 points.Thats why in the books there was a moment when harry couldnt catch the snitch because they needed to win by 200 points and they were only winning by 20 or something
18:30 As a quidditch expert, if you read the fourth book of harry Potter, in the world championship Viktor kroom caught the snitch but lost the game. The snitch goves you 150 points, which in most cases is enough to win
So guys the win con in quittich is obviously the golden snitch but the point system exists incase one team so thoroughly crushes the other team so the snitch can’t save them, or if both the teams seekers go down. Hope that makes sense.
There was an instance of the golden snitch getting captured yet the team still losing, in the fourth book we see Bulagaria and Ireland playing in the world cup, and Ireland is up 160 points and the snitch only gives you 150 points, but the Bulgarian seeker, who knew there was no hope but wanted to end the game on his own terms, catches the snitch resulting in the victory of Ireland even though Bulgaria got the snitch. Idk if this is what he was talking abt but..
Levy Quidditch matches are determined solely on points. The snitch catch ends the game. In Book 4 Krum catches the snitch for +150points but his team loses the world cup because they were down 160 in goals.
