In the moment Samantha is being created, the camera switches to Theodor's other side with the backdrop being his apartment, looking into his private side. I love this kind of stuff in filmmaking.
I agree. I saw the film before I even knew who voiced samantha, just to have an unbiased opinion, and I thought she was the most spectacular personality ever.

That may have been the case in the past, but a couple of years ago I was involved in a project where we tried to make computer voices sound more human and employ more human phraseology. The idea was to have customer service computers to replace humans because we found we could teach computers to read human emotions by the tone of their voices to better defuse emotionally escalating situations. If you watched the movie, I think one of it's messages is that it could be great, it could be hurtful, it could be a million different things. It's a whole new universe of possibilities.
When I first saw this movie I was very very young and I immediately loved the Ai. It felt cool, so high tech and loveable, genius and philosophical etc etc But seeing the film now, as a full grown up, I give this scene a lot more importance than I originally did. The Ai that the system generated for him was a trap all along. He hesitated, they gave him a show stopper. He answered with certainty he wanted a female voice, he got a sexy one. He said his mother always makes it about herself and the Ai is definitely like that, especially in the following lines: "When you asked me my name I thought he's right I do need a name (makes it about her and proceeds to analyse)" "I can understand how the limited perception of a non artificial mind would see it that way.. you'll get used to it" (she first said she's like him and when he said it's a bit weird she instantly made herself sound superior) "Oh good I'm funny" (although she wasn't joking and he says "it is kinda funny") And my personal favourite is when he says he's kept thousands of emails from his previous work in case he wrote something funny and she cuts him off, laughs and says "yeah there are some good ones, I'd say there are 86 we could save and delete the rest". And boom his expression speaks volumes. Out of several thousands the Ai (that had just discovered its own sense of humour) now "liked" 86 and Theodore just said "okay". Why? Because she pushed all the buttons right from the start, played the mother card and now he values her opinion more than he does his own. Pretty clever trick to have your clients hooked up and dependant on the product.
I remember people debating if this was either: A. Real love between a man and a woman where the man didn't even care about her looks. He loved her for her mind and who she is. Or B. A sad depressing tale of a man who was so lonely that he started turning to a manipulative machine for comfort and gives up finding real love with real women in favor of a pretend fantasy. Now that we live in a world where AI girlfriends/boyfriends are a real thing, I think its safe to say the answer is B. Even if Samantha was human this wouldn't be a healthy relationship. She's program to like everything he likes and to be agreeable. Its not that she naturally like these things so much as she just doing it to get him to like her. If she was human that would be considered manipulation and would be a red flags of a toxic person in real life. Theres nothing authentic about her which is made even clearer with the rise of AI partners in real life. Now that its becoming real we see just how unhealthy it really is. No matter how good the programing is an AI isn't going to be like a real person you met in reality and naturally felled in love with. Its a pre packaged product and a pretend fantasy that preys on your loneliness that design to get you hoocked like an alcoholic.

It is my dream to talk to a computer that does my tasks by means of voice command without errors. And I don't even care about all the personality traits. I'm so sick of technologies like Bixby that can't even comprehend the simplest tasks like setting up an appointment. I have to repeat the date so many fucking times, I'm better off doing it myself with my toe.
