@lw9cd CP is a crown corporation. The taxpayers (gov) are propping up a failing business by not cutting and running, which we should do. Without sacrificing services or reducing wadges, where do you think the capital comes from, which covers operating costs for a business that is in the red year over year?
@thenorthernwill Where is the money coming from? Its not come from the government. Crown corp or not. It's come from cash reserves and selling of an IT company. The IT company wasn't much money's though. Look it up though because I know you won't believe me.
Canada post has lost over 3 billion dollars since 2018. They have no money. How can the union expect anything at all? If anything, management should be fired and there should be mass layoffs. There would then need to be a restructuring plan put in place to ensure it becomes solvent. Unfortunately, by striking at the one time of year that they actually do make some money, they are shooting themselves in the foot and ensuring that they continue to hemorrhage money. Feel sorry for the workers but the revenue stream is just not there and probably never will be unless they rethink their business model.
Canada Post is not a business. It’s not supposed to make money. It’s a public service. You think roads make money? Imagine if every road were a toll road. That’s what you think Canada Post should be. It would literally be impossible for Canada Post to serve the people it does. Northern communities and rural areas that are unprofitable for postal services to serve.
YOU MUST BE A PICKET LINE WALKER TO TALK LIKE THAT Mr. riddler Its Canada who bails them out when your 3 billion in the RED Selling stamp will never bail you out of this mess. EVERY OTHER COMPANY WITH A BOTTOM LINE AS YOURS, WOULD OF SHUT THERE DOORS 3 YRS AGO
Really? No other company survives spending on capital expenditures? You know they've been spending $4 billion on capex since 2021? Suspiciously that's rhe same year they started their big losses. And yet they are inly in debt what $1 billion? Postage is going up in March, they will be delivering on weekends and they will be stopping the capex spending. That's more revenue and less spending. Oh right everyone will stop using them on spite. 🙄
ex letter carriers opinion: (17 years) The Union has shackled the Corporation from progressing into the future, and has become a dinosaur. Other companies are leaner, quicker, more diverse with more options. Yes , still essential in rural areas of Canada and small businesses, but definitely not deserving of a 24% raise. They have lost a lot of their bargaining power, especially using the old tactic of striking at Christmas which seems to be backfiring on them. On the other hand, the Corporation has operated on millions of losses over the last 7 years , and those in charge should be held accountable. Would this not happen in any other company? Go down to 4 day work week at least for letter carriers....parcels on weekends, and a two tier workplace..to start
Considering the company is not being truthful in where the money is going why would the union trust them and ask the workers to go down to 4 days. This country needs good jobs and not more jobs that only benifit billionaires. Before long everyone will be living like sardines.
Canada Post isn’t a business, it’s a public service. The reason Canada Post takes loses is because its objective is not to make money, but to provide a public service to people who, for a business, it would be unprofitable to service. That includes rural communities. The only reason northern communities have access to commercialized goods is because of Canada Post. Loses are not only expected, but necessary for it to serve the people the way it does.
I don't really care for canada Post . I have bills to pay, and they are holding hostage so i can't pay them ! I work, and i suck up . That should go for canada post worker !
Like if you agree that the market should dictate what a job is worth not the worker If they want more money then they should work a second job like many other Canadians or quit and find a new one that they will likely have to work longer hours at while being more strenuous
Nobody should be working a second job. That’s what you want? A society that forces its people to work multiple jobs just to make ends meet? Any society that forces people to work like that has failed as a society. Almost like capitalism is inherently a failure.
We had a Canada Post carrier that stole any gift cards, etc they noticed in the mail. Went on for years, CP refused to investigate or take any action. As far as I'm concerned, the employees, union and company can all go to hell together. Useless waste.
Canada post should be an essential service with no strike mandate . Unions should never have this level of disruption in any modern society. We are a nation of wimps.
@@dy6682 A nation of wimps wouldn't have unions. Unions are our strength. The wimps whine and complain every time they are forced to pay closer to a fair wage. We are a nation of strong, hard workers, who are unfairly having our wages stolen by wimps.
They could have stopped accepting packages if they weren't going to fulfill their obligation. Holding our packages as hostage UPS should be hired to finish the deliveries they accepted and then they can do whatever the hell they want
Canada Post employees never should have been accepting canadians' posessions, knowing they would be locked away undelivered. They knew a strike was coming internally and failed to adress customers' interests. BINDING ARBITRATION NOW. Canadians do not deserve to be held hostage by squabbling children. SHAMEFUL. I've not heard one acceptable answer from a CUPW member when asked about how they are hurting small business and remote customers. The fact you are hurting financially too or that you are sorry, does not save someone's livlihood and it does not bring someone's necesary medicine to them and it doesn't deliver a monthly cheque that is a person's only means to get through the month. Stop blaming Canada Post. Who is on strike? Who chose to do it now? Who has chosen to do a full on strike instead of a rotating strike? And somehow you all claim that Canada Post is NOT losing money and in fact making millions more than they are saying. Why are you the only ones that think so? Where is the financial information that you are privy to that the rest of us aren't?
The Union of Canada Post 2:39 officials first and foremost does not sincerely fight for the sentiments all all members but only of the few. The trouble makers there and not considerate of most affected are the officials. There are the people behind all the loses and trouble theajority is experiencing. These black people are a menace to the organization. The government should already step in and ask the entire members if they want their representation to be changed by officials who want the whole organization to improve and develop together. The current officials are selfish people while they just sit on their butts and enjoy the money of members doing the hard work. Shame on these officials. They are blood sucking lyches.
Due to profits being at record lows, I would say they are going to close many postal offices to pay for their demands. So much for caring for your company or coworkers. "I want 20% raise, and 500 offices closed down across Canada" Lower their wages because they are being foolish. You all watch many people will be jobless to pay for their wage increase.
Close 1/2 the offices then reduce mail delivery on Tuesday and Friday. SINCE WE RARELY HAD MAIL ON A MONDAY LIKE I DIDN'T NOTICE EVERY WEEK. THEN ON TUESDAY YOUR MONDAY MAIL SHOW UP ON TUESDAY
You realize they are spending billions on "upgrades" and new plants the last 3 years right? But yeah the company makes it sound like these workers are the problem when labour costs are exact same as 2018.
It wouldn’t be so bad except I have five items held up by this nonsense. I will never use Canada post ever again! I hope this just leads to the end of Canada post! Enough is enough!
CP Management said they have lost 3 BILLION since 2018 but somehow CP didn't go bankrupt and Management still collected huge BONUSES off the backs of the Workers...🤔
Generally the employees at CP don’t require any qualifications outside of what the organization provides and are compensated handsomely for their GD education. Like most unions, just a body ready to complain. I hope their strike pay has kicked in and is peanuts.
PERFECT! BACKWARDS is the RIGHT direction! RENEGOTIATE the WHOLE CONTRACT FROM SCRATCH INCLUDING BENEFITS, VACATIONS, and WORKING HOURS. Bring it closer to the Walmart Contract or the McDonalds contract.
Does anybody remember all the CP workers saying it's not about wages or pensions it's workplace issues and other things but now all they want are pensions and wage increase
The rich keep getting richer the workers keep going further in debt to stay alive, as are most Canadians. Stay out postal workers till you get the deal you need/want.
If that happened they would stop delivering to rural areas or they would jack up the prices to make it profitable. Same goes for northern communities like the territories which rely on Canada Post for food and medicine. Either the government would have to give the private company huge handouts which might cost tax payers more than now, or the private sector would completely disregard these places unless they paid a lot of money which would cause them to starve. Anyone who thinks that a public service should be privatized does not understand what that would mean for them. Imagine if every road was a toll road. Maybe that will give you an idea of what it would do.

@@thenorthernwillwhat propping? The government hasn't given the company anything for operations. How is it possible they are spending $4 billion on upgrades with no government money? Maybe it's not as gloomy as the company suggests.
First it's the union secondly canada post is almost bankrupt so.

Northern communities and rural areas that are unprofitable for postal services to serve.

ex letter carriers opinion: (17 years)
The Union has shackled the Corporation from progressing into the future, and has become a dinosaur.
On the other hand,
the Corporation has operated on millions of losses over the last 7 years , and those in charge should be held accountable.

Like if you agree that the market should dictate what a job is worth not the worker
If they want more money then they should work a second job like many other Canadians or quit and find a new one that they will likely have to work longer hours at while being more strenuous
Nobody should be working a second job. That’s what you want? A society that forces its people to work multiple jobs just to make ends meet?
Any society that forces people to work like that has failed as a society. Almost like capitalism is inherently a failure.
I hope those Canada post workers have lots of money in the bank because this could be a long strike.
