- One of the most brutal executions to ever have been performed in England was that of James Scott the Duke of Monmouth. He was a rebel who would be taken to Tower Hill for his execution in front of a huge crowd during the reign of King James II. But he was executed by a man who has gone down in History for his botching executions, Jack Ketch. Monmouth was the son of King Charles II and as he was illegitimate he was not in the line of succession, but he believed that he was the rightful King. But Jack Ketch’s actions with his axe almost caused a riot as he struggled to take Monmouth’s head from his body. However he was exhumed at one point with his coffin opened, and there were claims that his head was sewn back on so a portrait could be painted of him. But there was also another probability that he was dug up again inside the Tower of London’s chapel where he had been laid to rest.
Such an interesting twist of history. If Monmouth had not rebelled and waited he might have had a stronger position after his cousins Mary and Anne died. It was just 3 1/2 years after his execution that his uncle was removed from the throne in the Glorious Revolution.
This thumbnail should have had horrific in the title as this one truly was.
1- Can tell that you @annetterfournier, or not, like history, but not of the revisionist kind which MUDdies the Truth, right? Or so said THE man sarcastically..
2- Time now to rather ...Shema!!! and heed for after 55 years of double grace offered , 42 of those having passed to no improvement from the other side , but on the contrary, the ''horrific'' chastisement on REV 18: 21 is just and justly around the bends.
3- And Still NO pasaran!
This whole situation is horrific.
I think there were two to be executed, Monmouth and a friend but after seeing Monmouth botched execution his friend pleaded for his life and confessed all.
Very horrific
Absolutely gruesome the if people who were used to executions were utterly horrified so it must have been really awful.
I used to live in a place called Tower Hill Apartments in Helena, Montana.
I didn't know there was a Tower Hill in London for executions!
Lol
I think Tower Hill Apartments were named for the fire towers around Helena.
Why did they keep Ketch on as an exicutioner if he messed up so many jobs?
He had only messed up once before. The story is that on the night before this execution some of the King's men got Ketch very drunk. So, on the morning he was, at very least, very hung over, if not still a bit drunk.
Reuly her remarkable history of Janes Scorr thank you xx
He was illegitimate couldn't rule, even if his father had made him legitimate which he always refused to do😮
So no coffin being opened, again!
Ketch was probably drunk during his executions, or had political ambitions🤪
What a ''horrific'' VT... Guess what I've heard about the Stewarts being hard to scare is true after all.
And yet No pasaran!.
Merry Old England.
James had great hair
I've heard that there's a rumour that at S. George's there is a sealed room linked to Edward IV with unknown people
And everybody lived happily ever after. 😅
This sort of story reinforces my bewilderment at pride in the history of the royal family. The current lot are pretty dysfunctional too so this fascination with these vampires descended from medieval gangsters continues to baffle me.
Think you mean London Bridge not Tower.
Tower of London, not Tower Bridge or London Bridge.
Bad show sir. Bad show.
Interesting information to be sure.. but repeated, rewoven and ultimately irritating. Either get an editor or do more research to fill your time slot.
Her Botox looks GREAT!
Perfect true Celtic genes that many envy , or allergic perhaps to peanuts, or so they say...Lol.
