    From personal experience with my 7700k just take care with any automatic voltages the motherboard may try to set. Had a feeling my motherboard was trying to brick itself with just the XMP profile enabled when it set VCCIO and SA voltage into the red automatically (didn't even cross my mind it would attempt such a thing, knew i'd have to set up the Vcore myself, but that was a real surprise). The problem was remedied before I left the BIOS and it eventually needed far less for stability. I couldn't crack 3000mhz on memory either (but then again I was simply trying to run it at the advertised settings 3200mhz 18-18-18-36 at 1.35v. Settled with 2800mhz 15-15-15-35 at 1.35v, just really seemed to hate any higher frequency (only adjusted latency downwards when I realised I wouldn't hit my freq target, probably could have loosened to get stable but I won't lose any sleep over it). I don't need high performance memory so no great loss, it's still "mildly" overclocked.
    Cracked 5ghz stable at 1.335v but have settled for 4.8 at 1.235v for daily use. Real chuffed, then again I didn't use Skylake where I think the most disappointment in going up to Kaby Lake may lie. I'm using a H115i and getting about high to mid 70's under stress testing at 4.8ghz. Was getting mid 80's (with a few peaks into high) at 5ghz with more voltage (incase you haven't tested an AIO water cooler yet). People are getting far better temps after de-lidding, but since I have never done so and only have two kidneys (and i'd like to keep it that way) it's not for me despite the understanding on how safe it can be with specialised tools. What can I say i'm not the adventurous type. However, it could probably make that air cooler more viable for those higher freq's.
    I'm using the MSI Gaming M7 Z270, even has a little nob you can turn and it will automatically dial in all the settings for an OC... However, their manual also contains a disclaimer that it can brick your PC.... seeing the overzealous voltages any auto setting gave me, i'd absolutely hate the idea of using that for any extended period of time, nice gimmick though. Combined with the heat Kaby Lake seems to be able to put out though, might serve well as a room heater.

    • @Radmils
      @Radmils 7 лет назад

      Yep still going. Ouch, i'd say that's substantially worse than the majority of Kaby's. Were you getting instability with lower voltages or are you using auto settings?

    • @Radmils
      @Radmils 7 лет назад +1

      There is some variability in CPU's so there is the possibility that you apply the same settings I have and it will work, but more than likely it might be unstable if you ended up with a lower bin chip - no real biggie but your system might crash/reset. You should check and make sure you have updated your BIOS first, since if you have a release version some motherboards would set the voltage higher than necessary. 1.32v is a little high for stock so I can only imagine that might be going on there, mine is about 1.2 stock (there is variation in this but it shouldn't be so large). If you do update your BIOS don't do it through your OS, and read any instructions on doing so provided by your mobo manufacturer.
      As for a voltage/freq to set for your first shot on the OC, everyone has different methodologies and depends on what you want to do with your CPU. What I'd do is probably give 1.3v at 4.8ghz a crack for starters - an average CPU should be able to do that. Then either go higher in frequency or lower in voltage from there depending on what you want. Stay below 1.35v for daily use (maybe even lower depending on your cooling solution). Be mindful Kaby can run pretty hot when OC'd heavily without a delid 100 Celsius == thermal throttle land. I'd probably keep it below 80 (while stress testing) for daily use.
      Of course you can try 1.235 or 1.25v at 4.8 but you might get a crash. Although if you're serious about overclocking it properly, you'll get a few of those anyways.
      This is just my opinion anyways, however i'd also recommend you take a look at some of the overclocking boards, if you like OC'ing or want to read some other opinions.

      @viktorahmed7978 6 лет назад

      Why not just change the mode to 'manual' instead of XMP? My 7700k is running at 5GHz at 1.35v under 'manual' which I did tonight. I ran an AIDA 64 test for 10 mins and it was at 75 degrees celsius under load.

    I know I'm late to the party but I just got an i7-7700k last month and I'm very happy with my purchase. I'm using the stock cooler for now so I'm only running at 4.2ghz. I had 8GB DDR4-2400 when I first put the system together. I just upgraded to 16GB DDR4-3600 and I got a noticeable performance increase. With the 2400mhz RAM it was taking 12 seconds from the moment I pressed the power button until when Windows 10 had finished booting up. Now with the 3600mhz, it takes 7 seconds to boot!! I built this PC to power a VR headset. With the 3600mhz I am seeing 10 to 15 fps increase in most games. I was only getting 60fps with the 2400, now I'm getting 75fps with the 3600. My headset is 72Hz so 75 fps is perfect, I'm saturating my display.

    good that its 2017, and not 2000. Overclocking was never as easy as today, but also its..... dangerous, especially with this "easy" overclocking helps from the BIOS.
    on my 4790k set to 4,6, mainboard think it needs about 1,27-1,3V under load... auto voltage.
    easy to do, but dangerous to the cpu, and with some manual settings, it run at 1,19V stable.
    but that was also dumb due (for my opinion) too high temps of around 65-70° C with a 92mm 3rd party design cooler, so i run it @ 4,5 GHz with 1,16V, and max. 65°. way better and also less heat from my rig :D
    i also love the GHz hunting, i began with harder OCs with a Core 2 Duo S775 Setup, i got 5,2 with a E8400, was really fun, this CPU was bosslike this time :D. Good job with 7700k :D
    I think you should better explain how NECESSARY it is, to change auto voltages to fixed/offset voltages, as low as possible. ohh and the LLC (load line calibration), this function is so useless and can kill the CPU, better off if theres no reason for it :D

    ugh, 5 is unstable on my 7700k, 4.9 is good but once I jump up to 5, my voltage shoots up to 1.47 and p95 causes all my workers to quit lol

    easy to hit 5.2 if you have a noctua cooler /fans (push / pull) and you delid your cpu and change out the stock paste with liquid metal lol
    that's what I did now it's ez stable at 5.2, haven't tried to push it yet but my old crucial 2400 ram is up to 3000 with decent timings.

      depends what cooler. it will be safe but if it will get too hot it eill either shut down or slow down

    • @parkinsaw
      @parkinsaw 6 лет назад

      Yep Noctua Nh - D15 - 5Ghz easy. Hyper 212 Evo.....Don't bother overclocking, if you do would probably be able to do like 1 gig above turbo boost but even than temp might not be safe. Basically 5 ghz is the go to number for a high end air cooler as they generally run 2 degrees hotter than water coolers.

    My 6700k is at 4.8 and 1.435 V. Trying things with my memory still.. I might see how much voltage 4.9 takes but I don't want to push it a lot higher..

    • @coreyisabigpushover
      @coreyisabigpushover 7 лет назад

      You're gonna fry that chip. 1.4v is the max safe voltage for that CPU. Anything above that has a high risk of damaging the CPU.

    • @mrawesomelemons
      @mrawesomelemons 7 лет назад +1

      Motherboard manufacturers recommend 1.4-1.45 max. Voltage doesn't kill a chip. Current does.

    • @coreyisabigpushover
      @coreyisabigpushover 7 лет назад

      mrawesomelemons Ok since current kills things and not voltages, go ahead and pump 1.75 volts into it and while you're at it, roll all over a carpet then touch your motherboard.

    • @parkinsaw
      @parkinsaw 6 лет назад

      lol static electricity doesn't really fry motherboards anymore. This isn't bloody 2001. Would be more worried about, not applying enough/adding to much (leak onto motherboard) thermal paste to cpu.
