There's no way you'll find a B7 RS4 for £10k that's actually worth buying. An S4 yes and it's a fantastic car, I've owned 2 over the years. Another to add to the list is the Chrysler 300c SRT8. Big 6.1 litre V8 muscle car.
Those 300Cs were absolutely awful though! They looked great and I initially believed the BS that i think Chrysler put out that they were a Mercedes under the skin, so thought that it could be fixed. Alas no, it is your typical badly built US car.
@@davekennedy6315 the standard 300c might not have much going for it other than looks but in the SRT8, the big 6.1 American HEMI V8 just dominates the car so you forget it's faults imo. The build quality might not be great but they are simple and cheap to fix unlike Mercs. I've had the SRT8 nearly 6 yes now and absolutely love it. I'd argue that other than the RS4, it trounces all the cars on this list for fun factor.
Another 4.2 V8 Audi that is way more readily available for under 10k is the B8 S5. It has a manual, like the RS4, but the trade off is around 60 hp less. Still sounds beastly and is a great budget GT car.
@@MrBrokehisbollo I think the problem is exaggerated on the internet as every car apparently has to have an Achilles heel. Just change oil regularly and ignore the stupid Audi long life 2 yr oil change interval. That's madness on a big v8. I've owned 2 B7 S4s over the years and that car literally handles like it's on train tracks. Insanely capable.
I love the B7 RS4, but to chance one at 10k right now is insane. The one on Auto Trader right now (May 2022) is in need of a new oil cooler which is a four figure job. The next cheapest cab was 12k and that had nearly 140k miles on the clock. Too risky by far, for this budget look elsewhere!
there are a couple other v8 cars which i know can be bought under 10k. most of them have equivalents on the list like the merc sl500 is similar to an e500 as an example but i will mention the cl55 amg specifically with 5.4 supercharged v8. the other cars with an euqivalent on the list are the jaguar xk8 and jaguar xj v8 but the s type r is pretty similar. the only cars i can think of that dont have a real equivalent are the rover sd1 and the mg zt v8. they are both exceptionally rare but they do sound good, the problem is finding one, ive only seen 2 mg zts on sale in the last year. i guess its mg zt v8 is similar to the volvo s80 v8 in that regard, no one knows their worth because theyre never on sale. as for the rover sd1 i see them on ebay from time to time but never on more well known car sites and theyre normally around 7k to 15k.
The Vauxhall VXR8/UK Holdens have a big 6ltr US made V8 with 400+bhp. I'm fairly sure that some had a top speed of 180mph (I know there were supercharged ones, larger capacity ones etc) and have to be within the budget? They were universally loved cars with real presence and a great soundtrack but that also actually worked on UK/European roads, unlike US made muscle cars.
Lexus over 2.5m long sounds...I think maybe 2.5m shorter than reality ☺ 2.5m is Smart Car territory! Anyway, well done for finding a fair few V8s that aren't actually ludicrously expensive to run! I like the LS and SL but the interiors feel dated in both cases. The Quattroporte sounds great, but I'd always pick the Granturismo (although it's obviously pricier). The 650i might actually be my pick from this list, that definitely feels like the right engine for the 6 too, but reliability kills it. V8 pick is easy for me- LC500. Best sounding, comfiest, looks great, beat a DB11 in a track test (for fun, not speed) and it'll always work. If only I could afford the fuel I might have considered buying one now...
I was thinking about an SL500 but many issues that you mentioned put me off. Them SUV things, why do they exist? I think I chose correctly with my 2010 S5 Cab. All the best & keep on producing..........
I bought a CLK500 last year, it sounds dirty, and rips the clock easy, it’s about 450kg lighter then the SL, doesn’t have air ride, I’ve been telling you to feature this car for ages
@@derekporter66 well I’m just saying it’s a car worth featuring, it’s literally the same engine as the car he featured in this video, they are far lighter, and you can pick them up for well under 5K
An underrated choice is the MG ZT 260 V8. Not as refined as the Germans but it’s a real muscle car experience and while 260hp from 4.6l isn’t very impressive (Blame the Americans) as it’s a mustang engine it’s very tuneable and there’s loads of examples running 400+hp
That Jag S Type R doesn't count as the fastest saloon in the world as its limited, like every BMW M5 since the 80s! Plus it has around the same power as a Lotus Carlton that came out in 1990 and that had a top speed of at least 176mph. The Carlton was also kinda limited in that supposedly if you leave the car in 5th not 6th it would exceed 180mph! Limited cars don't count as if they did BMW M5s would have been hitting 200mph and over for 2 decades! Plus there would also be a bunch of Mercedes and Audis doing the same too.
The Lotus Carlton had 377bhp at 1655kg. This Jag is over 200kg heavier with only 23bhp extra power. I just can't see aerodynamics making THAT much of a difference.
Well, I was surprised to see a few "wants" on this list... Baring in mind I really like pocket rockets. Tops research, once again @Cars With JB. My own personal fave V8 is a Rover Vitesse, 0-60 in 7.2 seconds was quick for it's time, the cops had them to chase hothatch hooligans like myself with a MKII Astra GTE, slightly tweaked to do 143 mph (as cloced by German traffic cops on an autobahne, they only pulled me over because they couldn't believe how fast I was going... We had a long chat about fast cars, I took one of them for a burn to the next off-ramp, one of them then took me for a burn in their Porsche 911 with cop lights on to the next off-ramp while his mate drove my car. Different times!!!).. Oh, and the cop's Rover Vitesses were quicker than my Astra, but either the handling or their bravery, or their will, or my guile (I'd take sudden turnoffs and turn my lights off leaving them to run past me, then sedately drive home) meant that I never got caught for speeding... Once again, different times. On a legal note, the writer of this comment does not endorse speeding, nor want an endorsement for speeding. Hehe.

For me, it would have to be the RS4. Like you, I'm a big fan of the B7 generation. My favorite V8s would be: American: Ford Mustang, especially with that supercharger (Challenger & Camaro don't sound bad either) European: BMW V8s (the only thing they still do well) and also Ferraris Japanese: The UZ series V8s from Toyota (that's the only known one, aside from the Nissan V8s)

@@MrBrokehisbollo No. S5 has the FSI engine with the carbon build up issues. S4 V8 is generally ok, the issues people talk about are quite rare.

I'm surprised the E39 540i wasn't mentioned that's a godly sounding V8
if the price doesn't break the bank, the insurance will!
