I used to own one of these but it went missing from my home in 2011, the same time my now ex-husband left. I don't want him back but, but the guitar... ! It has great sentimental value, belonged to my now deceased mother. The one you are playing in this video is in much better shape than mine was but if you happen to come across another in your travels, I have the serial number!
I have my Grandfather's 1937 Martin R17. It went through the WWII with him on his naval ship in Pearl Harbor. It has recently been restrung with new tabs on the ORIGINAL Waverly tuners and new bridge. There were just two tabs left and one had cracked in half but was still on it's turn-key as were the others.
I have a 1935 R18 Archtop that my Dad had bought new. I have finally started to learn to play it, now that I have the time. Pretty much has stayed in the case until recently. I remember taking it to school in the 7th grade for guitar lessons. All I remember back then was that the steel strings hurt my fingers. I just would like to be able to make some joyful sounds with it!
It doesn’t even really sound that much like an archtop. Crazy that it has that much tone. Martin sure makes a wonderful instrument.
Nice old guitar! Sounds great! Congrats!
Thanks much Kent - I appreciate you checking out the video!
stunning
Nice. The old gal has a lot of life in her.

Wow, that is great and be extra special to you as it was your Dads... enjoy the process!
I wonder how it’d sound with out f holes…
We don’t have to merely speculate about that - some of the earlier Martin archtop guitars were roundhole designs.
"Pikes Peak Guitars"- are you in the COS area? Do you have a store? I've got a 1937 R-17- could be fun to get together and let 'em sing together!
Yes! That would be fun but we moved to Tulsa a few years ago. Thanks for reaching out though!
@@theguitarczar1 Thanks for the reply!
