I was very close into selling my mpc one. Even took it to a musical store but I've forgotten my power adapter. I finally came to realize there is more to this unit than what meets the eye! Play it in both ways as a standalone and a controller for the software. I'm finally glad that I didn't sell it since I'm now scratching the surface!

Just getting into beat making and after trying to decide whether to go the hardware or software route and what device or DAW from there, I'm going with the MPC One. The biggest factors for me are the appeal of using a piece of hardware instead of the computer (which I already sit in front of all day for work), the value for money especially in the used market, and probably the reason I'm most excited for, the incredible community of people sharing their process, workflows, and tips with other users makes it feel so much more approachable.

Because it's cheaper doesn't make it "beginners". It's an amazing standalone controller and you can do everything with it you can with a Live 2 or MPC X. They are running the same software. I pair mine with a Tascam Model 12 USB interface and a MPK mini PLUS and there is nothing I can't do musically with it. I tend to lean more towards making house music and boom bap hip hop, but with the OPX and Fabric Collections I feel like I could score a movie if my life depended on it. It's just cheaper that's all. Everything else is pretty much the same in terms of "what you can do".

    • @DylanParisMusic

I definitely didn’t mean beginner as a negative here, but the lower price means a lower barrier to entry. If these devices had existed when I was in high school I could never have gotten any of them except the One. That would have been a “beginner” device for me but it’s really crucial that is no less powerful as you said 😊

Just my 2 cents on this I have the MiniD, Stage Piano, OPx4 and the Air Flavor Pro (all in discount season) on an MPC One. And they perform surprisingly well on the One.
(Edit: Don't worry about watching the Ram Cpu usage meters, the system is pretty good at managing its limited resources, in my specific case and I have been using the thing for 2 years)
In a single session the heaviest one is clearly the Stage Piano, so having more than 2 distinct instances of it in a single session is a bit heavy on the machine, it shows in how long the plugin takes to open. But still if you run the same instance in multiple sequences it runs great
I love that stage piano because it lets you dial in the amount of mechanical and pedal noise and it sounds very good for the sort of alternative things I do.
The other 2 plugins are excellent and not as intensive.
Mini D is a great 4 voice poly MiniMoog with simple controls and killer sound, it can run multiple instances in a single session, simple modulation but huge gnarly overdriven sound on demand.
And Opx4 is a synth programming playground, the presets are not worth much but if you're into noodling around with FM synthesis and modulation the results are awesome, it can also run multiple instances. Creating evolving or generative pads on it are awesome
And the Air Flavor pro plugin is very good for character, it's a bit heavy on resources so don't run it in too many tracks, it takes a couple of seconds to open when you first load it into a session but after that first load it runs great.
MPC One is definitely very inspiring within its ecosystem. How I work with it is I record other samplers, synths, guitar, and many found sound samples to create weird things. It's definitely not just a hip hop or looping machine at all.
      Hope you enjoy yours

I have the hardware clone of the Moog synth (Model D) and I also have a Hydrasynth (w. possibility to make 4 op. FM) and Volca FM. But I really like the idea of having virtual instruments on the MPC One in case I want to make music or sketch ideas out of my studio. So, knowing that it can handle these plugins without problems is very useful for me! Thanks a lot!

Live two has a battery and speaker, but less buttons per function. You can install a hard drive or ssd in the Live or Force whereas the One can only use SD or potentially usb drives.
The Live and the One use the same hardware and OS with the same plugins. The force is a bit different with a different workflow, a full arranger mode, disk streaming, and more. I love the Force, it is definitely pricier and larger overall.
If budget is a concern nothing beats the MPC One in my opinion

There’s a ton of hardware buttons tied to specific functions which helps build a muscle memory that is nearly impossible with an iPad. I returned a Force after 5hrs of use. Their warp modes are pathetic and sadly it spans across the MPC one and live. Takes an age to warp and chop samples where as their MPC 2.0 software works fantastic. They need more power to be able to drop in samples and not have to “warp, timestretch and then change key and then timestretch again” it’s a pain in the ass.
I can drop a sample into the software and change semi tones in 2 clicks with warp on and it’s done. In the force I couldn’t even change 2 semitones up and the samples fell apart. Tried all warp functions, algorithms and timestretch and it couldn’t even do such a simple task. Contacted Akai and it took over a week for a response.. their support is abysmal. Checked many Facebook groups and many said the same that it’s the biggest downfall to their standalone machines. You basically have very little wiggle room in changing key so it leaves you to only use the key of the sample or you have a very long process of trying to get it to timestretch in the key you want to change it to or it just falls apart. The software just works on the mac. They really need an overhaul to give the stand-alone units the extra algorithms of the desktop software and more than 4 insert effects and then it would be a all round masterpiece of a machine.

The MPC one is amazing and has some features I wish the Maschine had, especially around recording live vocals and other audio fx. Overall if I was starting out as a beginner and didn’t have money from a day job, the MPC One would be the winner for me at this point just based on the used market pricing

@@DylanParisMusic dope i saw this video earlier, for what its worth I had the mpc live when it got the first time, that’s the version without the speakers. Had my lil moments of fun but sold it as I’ve always had multiple grooveboxes op1, digitakt, recently deluge, etc and I didn’t felt as engaged as some others boxes more recently zoning into daw production. My question is because I impulsively bought a maschine plus this last week that I haven’t received yet but it’s important to note that I had the original maschine from 2011 to around 2016 and in that range a make a ton of great projects! So I feel kinda strange but excited to be back to the maschine ecosystem and also curious if the plus will take a more predominant role as a groove box that allow me to break from my usual studio space (my other boxes I have never taken out or move around I carefully sync them and have them as part of my bigger studio chain so in that sense they are very useful) I guess I am looking to reignite so fresh approach to creating interesting ideas I can later expand in my studio but do it in a way that becomes fun and engaging out of my usual physical studio space. I reckon a lot has come to be in the maschine eco system since I departed from it, but as far as I remember I used to work mostly with my own sound and create very basic but deeply satisfying ideas with the last amount of fx and as soon as I got things clicking for me with a few sections, where I could envision the end game I would export stems and continue on Ableton always grateful to the maschine as a place where I could be more focalized… for example I would frequently return back to maschine if I felt that while working on a song I’ve come to a gridlock in terms of drum programming or needed just another pass at working something exciting and then bringing that 2nd round to Ableton as I felt doing it on maschine was more effective in terms of time consumption…I am hoping the maschine plus will be a iteration of that now with the added plus of having some mobility for inspiration.

MPC isn’t really dawless. It’s a DAW in a box: a single purpose computer with a single purpose user interface.
Which of course is preferable to a laptop with a mouse and qwerty keyboard.
The one thing that keeps holding the MPC universe back is the outdated primitive arrangement functionality. It’s great for putting together a loops and to build a “song” by repeating /muting variations of those loops. But you can forget about recording audio tracks across sequences or changing your arrangement unless you stay within a single sequence.
Maschine + is superior to MPC on almost every level and its workflow allows you to really arrange songs. Of course it’s also more expensive….

It had the best layout anybody who wants a battery 🪫 makes no sense, it’s not even remotely portable and internal battery fails you have to keep it plugged in anyway permanently. then the speaker 🔊 is useless for real mixing it has a great layout verse the shortcuts with function buttons on live 2. but it’s major flaw is it’s to much like a pc a really weak pc just makes ya want to use ableton or iOS daw but air flavor and hype synth low cpu nice and sound great but ,the new plugins are cpu monsters idk 🤷‍♂️ how hype isn’t but rest are .

I would personally dig a battery but I agree the layout is the best of the MPCs I’ve tried

Definitely not for experienced musicians and producers. If you already have a studio why would you go DAWless just to use a DAW in a box with a tiny screen, selling you proprietary plug-ins with a marketplace for samplepackers. no actual music producers use these. MPC's are amateur kit for kids

It's not all that... the UI is far from elegant and it's actually shit if you compare it to Koala sampler. Do yourself a favour and buy a iPad it has way more to offer than the MPC

I’m not sure how long you’ve watched my channel but I’ve had enough issues with iPads to likely go back until they dramatically improve the stability of the AUV3 standard and the major DAW players start bringing their software to it

@@DylanParisMusic you have cubase, FL studio for big players also Koala sampler and AUM. AUM is stable and iv never had an issue. Iv had a AKAI mpc live 2 and it actually froze quite a few times.

I’ve had major issues with Cubasis 2, 3, GarageBand, LK, Beatmaker 3, and most of the AUV3 plugins I’ve used. The crash rate on iPad and iPad music software besides Korg Gadget was atrocious along with the many other non full crash glitches I encountered. I’m glad it’s working for you though :)

@@DylanParisMusic I have a iPad pro and been using it for music for a couple of years and had no notable problems. But then again I'm not a AKAI sponsor so I wouldn't have I pad problems

Look dude again I’m glad it’s working for you but go ahead and watch my literal tens of videos from early on with this channel where issues came up with multiple models of iPads and many apps. You’re welcome to disagree with my opinion or have a different experience but don’t ever question my integrity
