I think Thetis was honestly the most misunderstood character in The Song of Achilles. She's portrayed as the villain throughout the novel, and I admit she's by no way means morally good. But we realise at the end that her hatred of humans and therefore Patroclus is somewhat justified. Achilles himself, after all, was meant to be weakened by his humanity, and the gods wanted that to be Thetis's punishment. To dilute her son with the weakness of humanity. But he turned out to be the greatest warrior who ever lived. Because of her.
And she was proven wrong in the end about gods and mortals, anyway. Her grandson Pyrrhus, who was raised the way she'd wanted to raise Achilles - more acutely aware of his godhead, far removed from his mortal side and prevented from forming close relationships with mortals - turned out to be an absolute monster.
okay but does no one remember how heartbroken patroclus was to have to think about how he would live when Achilles was gone but then pat end up dying first and could only watch as Achilles met his end by choice

I just finished reading The Song of Achilles yesterday, and I've been crying and thinking about it ever since. It's horrible and heartbreaking, but it's also one of the most romantic stories ever told (for me). This novel will make you cry, laugh, love, and hate; it's full of emotions, and the plot line is wonderfully well-written. "What has Hector ever done to me?" This sentence strikes me the most, and it gives me the impression that we should be conscious of our surroundings because just because someone is brilliant at one thing does not indicate they will be good at another. I'm hoping that more people learn about this story. The Song of Achilles is deserving of the praise it has received, and Madeline Miller deserves credit for the way she created this novel.

I discovered the book thanks to this Playlist. Now I'm coming back here.. I just finished the book and I'm just speechless. It's been a long time since a book hit me like that. I don't regret anything.I was emotionally attached to them and their story. I laughed, i smiled, i felt angry, i cried, for them... I'm so heartbroken now. Their relationship is something so pure and intense... Together as a one soul. If only it was not their destiny.
I read Song Of Achilles 6 months ago and it still breaks me to think about it. It’s those feelings that you hate at the moment but crave when it leaves you.
"He is half of my soul, as the poets say" "I am made of memories" "Patroclus, he says, Patroclus. Over and over until it is sound only." "Had she really thought I would not know him? I could recognize him by touch alone, by smell; I would know him blind, by the way his breaths came and his feet struck the earth. I would know him in death, at the end of the world." "In the darkness, two shadows, reaching through the hopeless, heavy dusk. Their hands meet, and light spills in a flood like a hundred golden urns pouring out of the sun."
I personally did not cry until the very end, only until I started thinking about the way that things could have been different. The book hurt until the very end, otherwise it was very well written!
i read this book last may on a camping road trip in all these different beautiful forests and it made the experience even more magical. i'll never forget this book.
"Now." Lycomedes came forward, and I saw his face for the first time. His skin was yellowed, and his graying beard like dirty fleece; yet his eyes were sharp enough. "Who is this man, Pyrrha?" "No one!" Deidameia had seized Achilles' arm, was tugging at it. At the same time, Achilles answered coolly, "My husband." I closed my mouth quickly, as to not gape like a fish. "He is not! That's not true!" Deidameia's voice rose high, startling the birds roosting in the rafters. A few feathers wafted down to the floor. She might have said more, but she was crying too hard to speak clearly. Lycomedes turned to me as if for refuge, man to man. "Sir, is this true?" Achilles was squeezing my fingers. "Yes," I said. This was the first time I've giggle laughed ever, it was absolutely magnificent and made my heart soar. So amazing, except for Deidameia I suppose. First 'romance' story I've ever read, and I'll say I chose well.
this book left me so many different feellings, i am heart-broken over their love story but also very angry at the fact that things could get better at the beginning and everything dont need to end this way. But in the end when Thetis finally understood their story and reunite them together, it's really warm my heart and literally lift me up from all the sorrow in my heart.
oh my god this is breathtaking. yes i am crying no i don’t wanna talk abt the trauma that book gave me and yes i do wanna talk abt how underrated this playlist is
i know very well this is for the book (especially since its on my bookshelf right now) but my name is Achilles and I FULLY intend on pretending this was made for me
I found this Playlist a month or two ago and became more curious about the book. Although I’m not completely interested in Greek mythology, this was so good to read since I’ve finished it today. I enjoyed it and you could tell their obvious connection and love for one another. Patroclus truly had the heart for Achilles and adored him. Especially sharing memories with Thetis. She hated him but yet let them be together in the end. A well written story for the heart to enjoy
I’m currently under a lot of stress applying to medical school and all I feel is anxiety. I read this book just to feel anything different lol. Heartbreak > anxiety
"I could recognize him by touch alone, by smell ; I would know him blind, by the way his breaths came and his feet struck the earth. I would know him in death, at the end of the world." Oh how I would give up anything to read this book again for the first time.
@@grimmmmmmme i postponed reading the book for so long 😭😭 I just finished reading it and had a nice long sob. I loved it so much. Everything about the book felt so real. Every little detail Patroclus accounted and the way the emotions were painted just pushed me to read more. Ive had a good back and forth with finishing this book but im so happy i discovered it and felt everything i did.
I sobbed for about an hour after I read TSOA but since then I have delayed my full breakdown until I find a more convenient time to be depressed for at least 72 hours, this playlist is for then. (I bookmarked the start of the beginning of the true sadness and will read from there to allow myself the full heartbreak experience)
To think that Achilles has been wondering around afterlife alone thinking where his love is. Why they haven't reunited? Does Patroclus really leave him alone behind just like he died first in life? Hurt my heart so much. When they reach for each other's hands is when I can close my eyes in relieve. I had to close my book and let everything sink in my heart before read it all again. Btw why Pyrrhus are so brutal like bro chill
Just finished and I’m heartbroken and satisfied at the same time. I’m a big fan of Greek mythology so I already knew how this myth ended but it still clawed open my heart 💔
literally clicked on the music header to see if i could find any greek mythology playlists because i just started rereading song of achilles and this was literally the FIRST video
Had this on in the background as I read. Took me about half a month to finish it. But I just finished it just now, and I have been emotionally shattered. I will never recover from this.
This book ruined me. So beautifully did the writer formulate the words. I read the book this morning and I'm still crying. There will never be another book like this. The relationship between Achilles and Patroclus is beautiful and special. And the last part of the book... "He is half of my soul, as the poets say" 'Go', she says. "He waits for you. "
The wonders of the gods By: Me The wonders of the gods are something historians will never understand they will always get something wrong they always get the stories wrong they always get the tales wrong but they do get one thing right and that’s the names history can’t change but the future can just by the choices you make and make the gods wonder instead of us wondering about the gods
Of all the terrible re-writes of legends, mythology, and even of true recollections and historical accounts this was not amongst them. When and after I read this I found, even in the obviousness of his death, that I was astounded and in a way awestruck. This book was, even in it's simple contemporary writing, beautiful and tragic, and I could not put it down for a moment.
I remember the first time when I finished it I started to cry so badly at 2 am in the morning that my eyes hurt. I loved this book so much and will definitely read it again to experience the love, hate and pain another time. And this playlist will be playing in the background. Thank you for this masterpiece.
It's been a long time since I've read TSOA and it still remains my favorite book to this day😭 It's so powerful, well written, sad and romantic. Everyone should read this book at least once.
Thank you so much for posting this!! "Two Men in Love" is my absolutely favorite song, I can feel the passion and imagine Achilles and Patroclus fighting for their love. This song is on replay for me!
reading that book was the best and worst choice of my life. yes it's wonderfully written, has a great plot and shit but it traumatized me deeply lol. its the definition of emotional damage 🤪 and the comment section makes me getting war flashbacks 🧍🏻♂️
Please Don't Go is such a good song, I'm getting goosebumps whenever I hear it. Thank you for adding it to this playlist, it was such a nice surprise to hear it!
i finished reading the book, and it got me crying so hard i cannot even move on at it, and listening to this playlist is making me shed tears again, my god the book is so great, i love it so much it hurts. i love them so much.
I read this book almost a year ago and I still think about it every day. My emotions are still so raw; it is the most beautiful and tragic story I've ever read. I just finished reading The Silence of the Girls and The Women of Troy by Pat Barker, and these books are almost just as amazing. They are kind of a continuation of SOA told by Briseis' point of view. I highly recommend these books. She is coming out with the third one in August 2024.

In the darkness, two shadows, reaching through the hopeless, heavy dusk. Their hands meet, and light spills in a flood like a hundred golden urns pouring out of the sun.
When I read that, at the end of the book I just couldn’t close the book. I couldn’t handle being done with their story.

@@alessandrafarina4258 YES!! It took me months to get over that book. And I truly mean MONTHS!😅
@@maggiemoo2623 i read the book like a year ago and I’m still hopelessly melancholic whenever i think of it.

"Best of men. Best of the Myrmidons", she places her fingers to my lips, stopping my objection. "It is truth," she says. "Let it stand, for once." And he really was 😭😭😭
I just finished reading The Song of Achilles yesterday, and I've been crying and thinking about it ever since.
The first time I read the quote “he is half of my soul, as the poets say.” I broke out into very small pitiful tears, just remembered it

Whats the full name of song and artist for 29:23?
Historians will say they are friends
Hollywood will say they are best friends
Poets will say they are lovers
But the universe will tell you, they are or at least were soulmates
"I could recognize him by touch alone,
By smell,
By the way his breaths came
And his feet struck the earth.
I would know him in death
At the end of the world."
They truly are what no one can imagine, their faults have been erased as quickly as the sea took their footprints. They wouldn't forget what happened but rather be able to look back, a smile on their face, cheeks red with the cold wind, hand in hand with memories to be made and cuddles to be lived, and know the past made them care for each other in the way only hurt and death and grief could bring two souls together despitethe Fate's disapproval. Their Love blinded all, hid the worst parts of the world, shined brighter than the sun, more mesmerizing than the midnight light and more mysterious than the sparkles that would shine in the darkness. They defined Love in a way no one would understand because they were honest and true, they spoke their fears and helped eachother, let their soulmate in their heart and forever and ever, trusted the intentions of the one their heart called.
They will live, because nothing was strong enough to break their trust, Love, memories.
I just hope one day to have a love story like theirs, to live happily with my soulmate and share love, memories, fears and hurt, until the final breath
Well in odyssey, Odysseus said he saw Achilles and Patroclus side by side when he visited the underworld
I read Song Of Achilles 6 months ago and it still breaks me to think about it. It’s those feelings that you hate at the moment but crave when it leaves you.
my feelings are still so raw after finishing it and this playlist just made me cry omg
I know the feeling…… 🥺
This book broke me into a million pieces. And I've never cried so much whilst reading a book. One of my favourites.
I can’t listen to this while I’m doing homework, I couldn’t allow me to do such insignificant thing while listening to the music of your heart.
Literally same.
"He is half of my soul, as the poets say"
"I am made of memories"
"Patroclus, he says, Patroclus. Over and over until it is sound only."
"Had she really thought I would not know him? I could recognize him by touch alone, by smell; I would know him blind, by the way his breaths came and his feet struck the earth. I would know him in death, at the end of the world."
"In the darkness, two shadows, reaching through the hopeless, heavy dusk.
"Who is this man, Pyrrha?"
"No one!" Deidameia had seized Achilles' arm, was tugging at it.
At the same time, Achilles answered coolly, "My husband."
I closed my mouth quickly, as to not gape like a fish.
"He is not! That's not true!" Deidameia's voice rose high, startling the birds roosting in the rafters. A few feathers wafted down to the floor. She might have said more, but she was crying too hard to speak clearly.
Lycomedes turned to me as if for refuge, man to man. "Sir, is this true?"
Achilles was squeezing my fingers.
I can feel you 💕
“What has Hector ever done to me?”
Finally gained enough emotional strength to come back to this
It's so beautiful but the book along with this playlist tore my heart and mind to pieces
I'm not even half way through the book yet all the foreshadowing is already killing me😭
I reread it with the information that the book was Patroclus telling Thetis his memories, it was banger
oh my god this is breathtaking. yes i am crying no i don’t wanna talk abt the trauma that book gave me and yes i do wanna talk abt how underrated this playlist is
i know very well this is for the book (especially since its on my bookshelf right now) but my name is Achilles and I FULLY intend on pretending this was made for me
that is such a huge flex :)
"Name one Hero who was happy"
😭😭😭
I'm 16 and an avid reader and this is honestly the most beautiful novel I have read in my life. Not trying to be dramatic, but it kind of changes you.
I just finished the book and holy fuck, i started crying like i have never cried with any other book. It's a masterpiece in any sense.
A well written story for the heart to enjoy
this book was so sad, at least they got to ''be together'' at the end
;_;
bro this book *wrecked* me
I’m currently under a lot of stress applying to medical school and all I feel is anxiety. I read this book just to feel anything different lol. Heartbreak > anxiety
"I could recognize him by touch alone, by smell ; I would know him blind, by the way his breaths came and his feet struck the earth. I would know him in death, at the end of the world."
Oh how I would give up anything to read this book again for the first time.
holy fuck i just finished reading it. I have never cried this much. I felt so much pain and I mourned with Achilles and Patroclus
Planning on purchasing the book tomorrow because of this playlist! I have absolutely no idea what I'm getting into...
Wishing you all the best and good luck it's an amazing book
I really hope you enjoy it :)
Same
Update? 😭
poor soul...
@@grimmmmmmme i postponed reading the book for so long 😭😭
I just finished reading it and had a nice long sob.
In a way Achilles was the happiest hero and in another way he was the saddest of heroes.
Btw why Pyrrhus are so brutal like bro chill
i havent even read the book yet but this playlist already has me feeling all these things
Broo I finished this book in one sitting and it broke me
This book will forever be my #1 🤧💘
Sorry, what book is it?
@@candynike897 The Song of Achilles ;_;
Just finished and I’m heartbroken and satisfied at the same time. I’m a big fan of Greek mythology so I already knew how this myth ended but it still clawed open my heart 💔
the second song killed me and stole my tears, give them back
This playlist made me read the novel. now i am reading it while playing this playlist!
literally clicked on the music header to see if i could find any greek mythology playlists because i just started rereading song of achilles and this was literally the FIRST video
Why do people dislike this? This is an amazing playlist 🥰
they're in pain
I just finished reading this beautiful book and it hurts even physically 💔
I love Achilles and Patroclus so much♡♡♡
Had this on in the background as I read. Took me about half a month to finish it. But I just finished it just now, and I have been emotionally shattered. I will never recover from this.
trying so hard not to cry today and then i saw the title of this video and I knew that today's attempt of not crying was going to be unsucccessful
the third song made me bawl my eyes out its so perfect for the song of achilles
This book ruined me. So beautifully did the writer formulate the words. I read the book this morning and I'm still crying. There will never be another book like this. The relationship between Achilles and Patroclus is beautiful and special. And the last part of the book...
"He is half of my soul, as the poets say"
'Go', she says. "He waits for you. "
The wonders of the gods
By: Me
The wonders of the gods are something historians will never understand they will always get something wrong they always get the stories wrong they always get the tales wrong but they do get one thing right and that’s the names history can’t change but the future can just by the choices you make and make the gods wonder instead of us wondering about the gods
Beautiful!!!❤
Of all the terrible re-writes of legends, mythology, and even of true recollections and historical accounts this was not amongst them. When and after I read this I found, even in the obviousness of his death, that I was astounded and in a way awestruck. This book was, even in it's simple contemporary writing, beautiful and tragic, and I could not put it down for a moment.
you gotta have achilles come down on this playlist!!!
i love how all Song Of Achilles playlists are sad, soft and wistful. and then there's mine. which is literally 90% screamo
I remember the first time when I finished it I started to cry so badly at 2 am in the morning that my eyes hurt. I loved this book so much and will definitely read it again to experience the love, hate and pain another time. And this playlist will be playing in the background. Thank you for this masterpiece.
i found this playlist on my home page of yt and clicked on it by accident - and boom, first song starts and its my current fave song. thats destiny

i finished reading the book, and it got me crying so hard i cannot even move on at it, and listening to this playlist is making me shed tears again, my god the book is so great, i love it so much it hurts. i love them so much.
Thank you for making this playlist, so now I can grieve from having finished TSOA… 😭
