  • So here it is, the first proper paddle of the outing, and it was a stunner. This place is really something else, can't think of anywhere in the UK like this, perhaps The Slieve League, but that is in Eire. The weather was fantastic............right up until we launched!! It was a choppy ride over, and even more choppy coming back, but this Cetus is absolutely made for me, and I can take much more of the choppy stuff now. The first thing you realise, when you do this paddle, is the amount of time it takes to reach the head of the Sea loch. The scale of the place is staggering, and you begin to wonder if something is holding you back, it isn't, it's just Mother Nature, and Physics and stuff. At the head of the Loch, you encounter the river emptying out of Loch Coruisk. It's only a few hundred yards, but is quite boggy in places, but the view is about the best I've seen in the UK so far. The Salty Seadogs, who set out at the same time as us, actually carried their boats right up to paddle Loch Coruisk, and planned to camp out overnight. Don't know how they got on, but I presume, not very well, as a Northerly wind got up, and stayed with us for the next 4 days approaching Gale force at times, then it dropped to nothing as you can witness for yourselves in the upcoming videos.

    I've spent many years visiting Skye and I've never listened to someone who seems to love the place as much as me!! I've yearned to visit Loch Coruisk but I've never managed to get there for various reasons. I want to thank you so much for posting this video, I almost felt like I was there!!! Massive thanks.x

      Glad you like it Julie. One day I shall return with a nearly empty boat, and drag it up to Loch Coruisk and paddle right to the end.........now that would be something else wouldn't it? All the best for the Season to you and your family.

      Thanks Richard, it#s amazing how much you miss when doing these trips, and I too love watching it back. Skye is quite often like this, the cloud formations are just amazing.

      Correctamundo, Nosey. I was first made aware of Loch Coruisk, when I saw a photo of it, taken at dawn. I really wish we'd carried the boats up, and paddled right to the far end. We didn't have time on that day, and the next 4 days we had that hideous Northerly wind to contend with.

    Great weather, great scenery and great sea kayaking you must be back in Scotland. Sky is something special. Im just back from the south west end of Mull and It may have beaten Sky for cliffside paddling. Carsaig Arches and Ardmeanach are a must

      I was looking at that section through the binos, when we were at Easdale. It does indeed look good. Later on we paddle under some of the most awesome cliffs I've paddled under, at one point rising to over 300 metres...........yes that's metres, very nearly 1000ft at Dunvegan Head.

      Hi Gethyn, thanks for the comment Mate, got some really good stuff coming shortly, just got back from 2 and half weeks in Cornwall, it's been awesome Dolphins and Sunfish right up close to us, ha ha. Got an amazing paddle in Vietnam, and some Dolphins in Mid Wales.............Just need to empty my hard drive which is full, yet again.

      @glrs1301 6 лет назад

      Sounds amazing, Cornwall has some real beautiful views and beaches! I'm in South Wales and hoping to start some kayaking videos myself of the local waters around here. Vietnam will be an interesting one, can't wait to check them out! keep it up buddy, great work!

    lmao. we're from just down the road (relatively speaking) & every time we head north, we get quite simply jaw-dropped awestruck. seen the same mountains a thousand times & they 've never looked the same twice. light vs cloud cover, rising moisture, snow cover... the place is the Gods' own country ;)

      May is often the best time time visit for some strange reason, probably something to do with Summer finally trying to break out each year.

      The midges aren't as prevalent, the days are long and the scene is set for high summer. I wish you well, one thing is guaranteed, if you do get the weather it will be a most memorable experience.

    Great vid. As you've been there a couple of times can I ask if the portage into lock Coruisk is easy enough to do on your own. Looking to camp around the loch for 1/2 nights and do some photography. Also how long would you say the paddle is in time and distance from Elgol. Thank you very much,
    Rob.

    • @GBPaddling
      @GBPaddling  8 лет назад

      It would be a Herculean task, Reggie, hard enough with 2 people. The ground is very boggy in places, and it is approx. 500yrds. The best bet would be get the boat in the river, and float it. It is too shallow to paddle in the river, but a short length of rope would allow you to drag the boat. The ground is way too rough to trolley the boat.

      Thanks for getting back so quickly, sitting in London working and wanting to be there. I took this image in March and want to go back to kayak across and to get the boat into Coruisk for a couple of days. www.flickr.com/photos/rawprints/25812729753/in/photolist-FTP89t-FjYZfH-EUxdHa-FJiHNN-e4EmVg-e3vD6u-ePyCvn-e3Xz2o-e7aNwc-7Lf98q-7JpUtU-8iH91G-7JQRAa-7SbtSQ

      @GBPaddling  8 лет назад +1

      The Cetus is 100% awesome, it's a bigger boat, but is actually more maneuverable than the Rockpool. This is one of the best views in the whole of the UK, I reckon.

    Hi,
    Brilliant and inspirational video.
    Please let me know which camera you filmed with?
    Cheers,
    Dan

    • @GBPaddling
      @GBPaddling  7 лет назад

      Hi Dan, I use a Panasonic SD90, for some unknown reason it seems to be awesome, and totally compatible with RUclips even though it's specifications are not the greatest on paper. For the wide angle shots, a Gopro Hero 2 is used, and the editing suite is Sony Vegas Studio Movie 11.
