  • The quietest corner of the Welsh Coast? One thing's for sure, it's amongst my favourite. After a couple of days on Anglesey, we had a day off due to the wind, then it all set fair.........just as Matt went home, ha ha. What did he miss? One of the best days of the year of 2017, I probably have one paddle that was better. I have done a couple of videos already of this, but they usually terminate at Penrhyn Glas due to time restrictions. So this time I completed the full trip to Porth Dinllaen, and the picturesque Ty Coch (Red House) Public House, that is now sadly closed a lot of the time, and it's days must surely be numbered given the prevailing economic climate for most pubs these days? The paddle takes on a most surreal, dreamy like quality once Penrhyn Glas is passed. I felt this profoundly on my first paddle here, and have felt it every time since. It seems to be a part of the magical quality of this trip, that and the peace and solitude early in the season. It gets very busy in peak season around the pub though, but always relatively quit along the coast. This is a 'Must do' paddle if you visit the area, in my opinion. I wouldn't have missed it for the World.

    Another inspiring video, it reminds me of when I was a kid and I would get a comic as a treat and would savour every page.. that’s how I feel when you post your videos 👏👏👏👏👏👍

      You hit the spot with that comment, far away. I used to LOVE comics, and still love VIZ with a passion. A few years ago I came across the Dandy Annual 1974, in a curiosity shop in Liverpool that I received as a Christmas present as a kid. Well I bought it, and upon re- reading it I was amazed how much I'd remembered. It is amazing how much of an impression these things make on you as a Kid?

    Hi Frank, your mate Graham gave me your tube account - absolutely fantastic pal, thank you so much for the inspiring vids of these wonderful places and commentary. Am just getting back into paddling and could do with some refresher courses then get myself a decent kayak. Incidentally, what make/model is yours? The place I used to buy from years ago has long gone so need to do a bit of searching around for my next boat. Anyway, keep em coming please. Good on ya.

      Martin, you have just proved to the whole wide world what fantastic great taste and judgement you have, ha ha. Thanks for the compliment, had a quick look at your videos and see you do a bit of the single paddle paddling? This trip can be done in a Canadian, and the last time I did it, I met a lad out there in one.

      Aside from comestibles and shit ticket as previously mentioned, I just have a Garmin GPS76, a handheld VHF radio, Phone in waterproof case, various cameras, Panasonic Lumix LX2, Panasonic SD90 camcorder, and Gopro Hero2. Collapsible trolley is of VITAL importance, and associated straps, and of course a compact camping stove for brewing my 'Sweepings from a China Man's floor' according to Matt, what we in the know would call Yorkshire Tea.

      Thanks Bill, but I'm sure you will find that Bird Nazi legislation doesn't cover Gulls.............ha ha, remember, if you don't know your rights, then you don't have any rights, lol.

    Another great video, Frank. I'm guessing that you have become quite good at timing those tidal currents. You put in a lot of miles and still have spare time to video and narrate; nice job.
    Ha, ha, have you noticed how web traffic at porn sites drops dramatically whenever you put out a video?

    • @GBPaddling
      @GBPaddling  6 лет назад

      Ha ha, the Porn sites will be after shutting me down by means of a dirty smear campaign.....The tides are obviously their own boss, and we always try to go with the tide, but of course it's not always possible. This trip can be done against the tide, staying close inshore negates the flow enormously, and it isn't that strong here but it is certainly a great help to go with it both ways.

      Here in Washington State we have several narrow channels where the currents pick up speed, 7+ knots. Hammersley Inlet, Deception Pass, Tacoma Narrows, Agate Pass, etc. Best to go on days when the tide turns around about noon. Take the free ride in the morning one way, have lunch, then take a free ride back. If you and/or Jesus ever make it over here we'll rent you some kayaks and we can hit the gorgeous San Juan and Gulf Islands. Just holler. A good website to help figure out the currents here is deepzoom.com

      I've seen a few videos of Deception Pass, and it all looks out of this world. It's about time I spread my wings to far off climes, I'm off to Vietnam next month, there will be a video of Halong Bay of that you can be sure.
