Mum of the year. This song of sirens thing is legitimately interesting. I mean practically all nations across the globe have some connection to the sea and it's many mythical creatures. In my case it's quite a big deal and a rather significant part of my homeland's history! Britannia isn't just some pretty words from a song after all. We have a darn good Navy! While I can only name one figure from our naval history (because I'm just a genius like that), I'm well aware of others who played their part in making the British Navy something to worry about. Lord Nelson. The French Navy was terrifying as was the Spanish armada. And of course there was the Vikings with their boarder line mastery of the sea (seriously those boats of theirs where built like absolute units. Yeah Britain has always been a mixing pot of cultures for centuries).
In a current Pathfinder campaign I'm in, the BBEG is an old character of mine. The DM hasnmade some changes to the character (understandable, needed to be adjusted for the campaign). For the most part, i haven't had an issue with any of the changes. There is one change that I'm really not fond of, but I think it's just me feeling protective I am of ny character. It fits the world, so it's not determental. In this case, I think it was more of a "lack of communication" from player mixed with DM constantly making changes. If you make too many changes, it sends the message that you don't like their backstory but didn't want to actually say it. At least that's what I got from listening. Re: The DM that messed with the character backstories. I don't care how much you tell players it's optional, some players will be so uncomfortable with confrontation that they won't say no (and even say yes) even though you stress that it's optional. Others won't say no because they're worried that you would retaliate -- we've all seen numerous RGP Horror Stories about DMs retaliating against players who didn't make the choices they wanted them to make. It doesn't matter that you would never retaliate like that, only the player's perception matters. As the DM you're an authority figure, as a paid DM even more so. You're also putting yourself forward as an expert -- so any change you suggest can be seen as telling the player they they are a lousy player. "You're stupid for choosing that, you should choose this". Whether you intend it like that or not, that's the impression that can be made. Every suggestion you make that changes the character is taking away the player's agency -- you're literally changing their character on them. You are, in effect, rail-roading their backstory. A lot of players won't be happy with it and many of them won't be willing (or even able) to tell you that. For the player in your post, you took so much of the character away from them that they decided it would be better to walked away from the game (and their money). That's 100% on you. Are all players like this? No. But it's part of your job (particularly as this is your job) to identify when you're stepping on a player's toes (or feelings) and then not do it. As a suggestion: Instead of asking players if they're OK with you suggesting changes, simply tell them that you're happy to offer them suggestions if they want. Then keep your suggestions to yourself unless they specifically asked. You've got a cool idea for their character if their backstory was different? Cool, make a note of it to use at a different time and come up with something that fits their backstory. Don't make a series of suggestions, make all your suggestions in a single go. Making a series of suggestions just multiplies any negative feelings that they may be having. If the player is not enthusiastic about your suggestion, then just drop it. DM: "We change it so your character is from a fishing village, then he can have experience with boats". Player: "Yah, OK". DM: "On second thought, let's keep them from a farming village, then you can keep your ride skill". I'd certainly feel that way, though I would communicate it accordingly. I was given the opportunity to participate in a game which was set in the League of Legends universe. As a non-player of LoL, I struggled to bash all the custom homebrew into my head and when I came up with character concepts, was repeatedly told that that wouldn't really work the way I intended it. I haven't beaten Curse of Strahd with the group I was doing it with, but Strahd is defo supposed to be a creep. He can be described as attractive, sure, but the guy's whole situation is that he was so terrible a person that he was condemned to an eternal limbo in Barovia. He stalks a woman who resembles his long dead love, regularly tortures and kills people for funsies and just really likes being awful. He's not deep, he's just an asshole, and the dm for that campaign sounds like a pizza cutter (all edge, no point)
Dating a friend's ex is not that big of a deal if you're from a small town. Where I grew up, if you couldn't date a friend's ex you wouldn't be able to date. There are not enough details to call the dude a "problem player," and she wasn't "his homie's girl" she was her own person who was probably attracted to someone who has shown they are nice and listened to people's problems. Heaven forbid the friend gets to date someone who likes them too. There is nothing indicating that the friend was manipulating the situation to "steal his girl" and your hot take treats the ex like property. Love the channel, I would rethink this particular take though.
6:58 "I used to be engaged to a person but not anymore. One day she decided to tell me that she's dating someone else at our table, so I cried victim to the DM about how I'm too immature and narcissistic to handle the fact that my ex has a happy dating life, and the DM decided to kick my ex's boyfriend from the table. Serves him right for being a PrObLeM pLaYeR!¡!" Buddy, I think I'm beginning to see why your fiance dumped you 👍
While OP doesn't seem like that much of a victim here (unless seperated didn't mean completely broken up), it's on DM for kicking a player just because their dating made OP not want to play.
Where to even start with these stories.... The one with the dm and one of the players going off about loli Strahd and his berserk mange demon horse but on fire should have been shutdown as soon as it was talked about because that has gone past "fetish" and into something faaaaar worse, really is should had been cut off around the loli Strahd no if and's or buts.
Third Story: It sounds like this DM is incredible at working with players to weave their backstories into being plot-relevant to their campaign. The fact that he was offering what sound like minor changes to the character's backstory that were agreed to by the player is fair, but for the player to turn around and quit when he said it was too much change is such an overreaction. If the player felt that the DM was overreaching, they could've just talked through what was too much, what changes the DM made that weren't acceptable, and things like that. But to just quit and ghost the DM like that is nuts.

As a non-player of LoL, I struggled to bash all the custom homebrew into my head and when I came up with character concepts, was repeatedly told that that wouldn't really work the way I intended it. The DM was very friendly about it all, but in the end, it just felt like 5e was slapped on to another game entirely, so I politely declined.
Mom of the year, indeed.
Mom of the year 🎉
Oof. Mom of the year, indeed.
Dude, I struggle as a dm to avoid redditor syndrome with strahd because his story is literally incel mommy didn’t love enough. I said Gertrude was 16-17 (a girl who ran away to strahd a castle) and they now habitually call him a pedophile!
Really if you want hot vampires go for Dracula. Not strahd

Story 1
Poor OP needs to GTFO. Dude is a creep and not respecting boundaries.
I'm just gonna say the usaul reddit comment and say that the second story is basically showing that the friend cheated on his best friend fiance. There is no way that it went by that fast.
Mom of the Year!
I checked out the Song of Sirens Kickstarter, and I have to be honest
Even though it sounds like a really cool idea, I don't think it will be made. The project seems like it was launched at the beginning of September and has only made about 1.5k of its 7k goal.
If All or Nothing means what it really means, then if this project isn't somehow miraculously funded over the weekend, then it won't be released period.. a big shame, cause like I said, it's a really cool idea, but I think its already too late for it.
Ah so is this part 3?
Part 3 will be later, my editor is currently working on other projects so I will be taking on the editing for the rest of the series or until Blaine Simple returns them from captivity
Who told crowe about low tier god and the memes who did it ? Lol
Dear gods i had to keep pausing at the COS story. The cringe is too much, i cant stop internally screaming. I mean, i know that there are Strahd simps out there, but damn, this is something else. Sadly, this is the internet, i know that this is nothing. There is much worse out there, there always is

How to start a campaign for new players

"I used to be engaged to a person but not anymore. One day she decided to tell me that she's dating someone else at our table, so I cried victim to the DM about how I'm too immature and narcissistic to handle the fact that my ex has a happy dating life, and the DM decided to kick my ex's boyfriend from the table. Serves him right for being a PrObLeM pLaYeR!¡!"
Buddy, I think I'm beginning to see why your fiance dumped you 👍
People really need to stop thinking of women as their posessions
While OP doesn't seem like that much of a victim here (unless seperated didn't mean completely broken up), it's on DM for kicking a player just because their dating made OP not want to play.
Bruh that game you advertise sounds like Azur lane without the cp
