    Have you ever tested Merrell's barefoot options (Vapor Glove and Vapor Trail)? The vapor glove runs wider than the trail, so I prefer the glove (glove 5 in particular) personally. Both have vibram soles.

    • @MichaelChelen
      @MichaelChelen Месяц назад +1

      Vapor Glove is nice and lightweight, recent models of the Trail have gotten some criticism for thicker & less flexible sole. These were the first barefoot shoes I owned, since then I've mostly switched to Vivo or Lems tho.

    Unfortunately, SOM is going out of business. I own a pair and they sent an email to their past customers 2 weeks ago. It is too bad, they are my favorite toe-box. They also would resole your shoes for a small fee.

    Imagine a Russell barefoot moccasin with a wide toe box and a flat sole for a zero drop, but a bit more of a sole for squish. You’d lose some ground feel but I could see the benefits. Tons of bucks, I’d bet.

    For traction i use altama otb. Its a popular gym shoe but also can be flat hiker to fishing boat traction shoe. Solid colors are also kinda fashionable as a sneaker. Size up and wide generally. Altama has a short narrow toe box. I got 8 wide because the 7.5 reg was too tight for long walking.

    I say you just make some barefoot shoes yourself with high-quality leather and vibram

  • @JJ-zr6fu
    @JJ-zr6fu Месяц назад +3

    If you buy properly fitted good shoes you won’t have the problem that barefoot shoes complain about. Nike metcons are a great option, Reebok nano, under armor has a few as well.
    The key for workout shoes if you’re doing any legs workouts is to have a harder sole that won’t compress like a running shoe. Converse also works but treat your feet better than that.
    For upper body any shoe that isn’t sliding in the floor like a leather soled dress work.

    • @barefoot-gibb
      @barefoot-gibb Месяц назад +2

      How do you personally define "properly fitted" shoes? I can assure you that there is no size of Nike Metcon that would allow full activation of my big toe. Sure, some are better than others, but any shoe that tapers toward the center prevents the amount of movement that a barefoot shoe allows

    • @JJ-zr6fu
      @JJ-zr6fu Месяц назад

      @barefoot-gibb where your big toe is not pressed against the front of the shoe at any point during your stride for me that’s at thumbs width when standing up in the shoe.
      As stated in this video barefoot shoe companies have people remeasure their shoe size and emphasize having a roomie shoe. Most people buying shoes have never really thought about how a shoe should feel or fit and choose price and looks over comfort and performance.

    • @barefoot-gibb
      @barefoot-gibb Месяц назад +1

      @JJ-zr6fu If that thumb's width of space isn't in a place that allows your big toe to align properly with the first metatarsal, it's not shaped to allow optimal function. This is not a problem I have with a men's size 12 Tolos, but is in basically every conventional shoe up to a 14

    • @fishingfitness
      @fishingfitness Месяц назад +2

      All the shoes you named are very narrow, Reebok and metcons started a little wider but not enough for someone with very wide feet like me and both have gotten significantly more narrow with each generation. Plus both have arch support

    • @JJ-zr6fu
      @JJ-zr6fu Месяц назад

      @barefoot-gibb that’s laughably not true training shoes are constructed to have your toe oriented correctly. The only time it’s not is if your wear shoes that are too small. And this isn’t even new the Munson last was designed for this in 1912. Barefoot shoes just cut the point off for looks.
