  • I have reformatted this tutorial, joining the two parts to make one video.
    The Checkerboard is one of the most basic and useful of canes. It can also turn into an Ikat!
    Cheers, Donna

    I love that you have these simple basic cane tutorials. When I started with clay I did not learn how to make these. I just followed tutorials not really knowing what the basics were. Thanks Donna.

    Is there a way to do something like this but have the cane be rounded instead of square? I'm trying to achieve something similar but its for a mushroom cap so it would have to be round

    • @DonnaKatoArt
      @DonnaKatoArt  Год назад

      Okay, so you want the ikat to radiate from a center, right? The way I would do that would be to make the cane square then force it into a triangle. I'd concentrate on the point and sort of let the squared off other end stay the way it is (or it will become distorted). Divide the cane and reassemble the points, you should get a pattern with the ikat radiating from the center an it'll be complete - not perfectly round. You can cut it perfectly round, though. Hope this helps! D

      That’s a sad story. We stopped making them because we got ripped off (China). I don’t know where you might find it now. 🙁❤️

      hi Elizabeth, well, we used ot make it, got ripped off in China but I'm not to angry because when I saw it, it was cheaper than it would have cost for us to make it here. Run on sentence. I'm actually thinking of getting a bunch and selling them myself! I will try to find the seller! Hugs, D
