Marvin Gaye did the anthem for the NBA allstar game in the early eighties and it's considered one of the best renditons of all time. Worth checking out.

I remember when Tiny Toons made fun of Roseanne singing the National Anthem in the How I Spent My Summer Vacation movie. Had me and my dad laughing for 2 minutes straight.

Lilian Garcia's National Anthem on the September 13, 2001 Live edition of WWE Smackdown is one of the best renditions I've ever heard. I still go back to listen to it.

Maybe there should be try-outs and/or practice runs backstage before the song is sung to a crowd.
no practice and try outs will save you when you step out there in front of hundreds of thousands of ppl. that kind of pressure is enough to send you screaming in fear.

From a technical composition standpoint the national anthem is actually fairly difficult to sing on key.

I remember watching the Whitney Houston performance live on TV as a kid, and it wasn't something like after the fact. We knew watching it that it was possibly the best performance of the national anthem we had ever seen. It was a once-in-a-lifetime thing.

Apparently some car companies back in the day were looking into replacing the standard car alarm sound with a recording of her rendition of the national anthem. Imagine how much car theft in the US would have been reduced had that taken place.

Those poor soldiers in the background of Fergie. You know they were thinking...."and this is why I fought for my country." The fact one of em didn't shut her up shows how badass they are, coarse they probably would've chosen getting shot at if they had to choose between the lesser of two evils.
Side note: As a kid, Fergie voiced Sally in The Charlie Brown & Snoopy Show, as well as some Peanuts TV Specials. One particular special she was in was Snoopy’s Getting Married, Charlie Brown, where she even got to sing a song. I don’t know why I thought I’d mention this, but I did have a few drinks, so that maybe had something to do with it.
